Exploring the Impact of the Sensoryscape (Sport Fans' Stadium Experiences via the Five Senses) on Emotions Associated with Sport Teams

  • Purpose: The purpose of this research was to examine the effect of the sensoryscape (sport fans' stadium experiences via the five senses) on connectedness and elation that sport fans have about their teams. Research design, data, and methodology: To achieve this purpose, structural equation modeling was conducted with a total of 417 KBO baseball fans. Results: The results of the research are as follows. First, stadium experiences via sport fans' sight, sound, and touch had positive effects on connectedness that consists of passion, nostalgia, supportive, and connected. Second, stadium experiences via sport fans' sight, sound, and taste had positive effects on elation that consists of happy, excited, pleased, proud, optimistic, and entertained. Conclusions: This research provides the first empirical evidence of the effects of sport fans' sensory experiences on emotions associated with sport teams. In order to maximize connectedness and elation that sport fans have about their teams, sport marketers need to develop specific sensory strategies that affect stadium experiences. Further implications were discussed.

  • 최근 스마트 모바일 기기의 급속한 보급 및 무선 네트워크의 실용화에 따라 사용자가 언제 어디서나 편리하게 사용할 수 있는 컴퓨팅 환경의 제공이 가능해졌고 이에 따라 차세대 컴퓨팅으로서 휴대형 PC가 실용화될 전망이다. 차세대 휴대형 PC에서는 지금까지의 시각, 청각에 의한 인터페이스 외에도 촉각, 후각, 미각과 같은 인간의 오감을 통한 실감형 서비스를 제공할 수 있는 인터페이스가 등장할 것으로 예상된다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 사용자 중심의 실감형 인터페이스를 구현하기 위하여 인간의 오감 가운데 기억과 밀접한 관계가 있는 후각정보를 기반으로 이를 표현하고 재생하는 기술에 관하여 살펴본다.

  • 지하철 화재사고 경우 정확한 화재 유형 파악과 그에 따른 적절한 초기대응은 사고피해를 최소화하기 위한 중요한 사항이다. 그러나 지하철 화재사고 발생 시 기관사 또는 비상대응직원이 직접 목격하지 않으면 화재 유형을 즉시 파악하기란 불가능하다. 본 연구에서는 화재사고로 나타날 수 있는 오감(五感) 유형을 분석하여 오감 정보를 통해 신속한 화재사고 정보를 전달할 수 있도록 오감 유형을 제안하였다. 또한, 화재 시나리오에 따른 비상대응을 Activity-Action Diagram(AAD)로 정의하여 비상대응을 시스템화 하기 위한 기반을 제시하였다.

Determining Correlation between Experiences of a Sensory Courtyard and DAS (Depression, Anxiety and Stress)

  • Background and objective: There is growing concern about the effects of modern society on mental health, coming with Covid-19-related caveats on depression, anxiety, and stress (DAS). This can be a subject to provide alternative methods which alleviate DAS. In line with this context, sensory gardens are widely acknowledged to stimulate the five major senses (sight, sound, taste, touch, and smell) and can have a significant (positive) impact on mental health. However, there is limited empirical evidence on the effect of these gardens with regard to alleviating DAS - particularly with respect to urban society This is a gab in knowledge how such limits can be addressed. Accordingly, this present study is clearly needed in order to verify if there are any correlations between sensory gardens and (positive) effects on DAS. The aim of this study was therefore to understand current levels of DAS in a high density building with a sensory garden in a courtyard and determine correlations between experiences in the sensory courtyard and levels of DAS. Methods: The Depression Anxiety and Stress Scale (DASS-21) was employed to test the level of DAS. Results: Additionally, 13 different factors associated with experiences in the building, including the stimulation of the five major senses in the sensory courtyard, were measured to reveal their contribution to mitigating depression, anxiety, and stress. It is noted that the average levels of DAS were 7.91, 7.77 and 9.01 respectively indicating that the mental health of participants requires mental health management. However, results show that factors associated with the sensory courtyard could improve mental health. For example, new social relationships, walking with colleagues, and the stimulation of each of the five major senses in the sensory garden could improve DAS. Conclusion: This illustrates that external experiences are more effective at mitigating depression, anxiety, and stress than internal ones. Factor analysis revealed four components: stimulating the five senses; internal and external facilities; internet-based device use; and new social relationships. There was a strong positive correlation between new social relationships and walking with colleagues. There were also strong positive correlations among the stimulation of each of the five senses. In conclusion, there are strong indications that sensory courtyards can help alleviate DAS and should therefore be promoted, particularly in the current Covid-19 situation wherein the physical and mental health of the public at large are threatened. Accordingly, courtyard design should be rethought in light of the relationship between the positive impact of sensory gardens and mental health.

오감자극을 활용한 효율적인 뇌파 DB구축 시스템 (Effective brain-wave DB building system using the five senses stimulation)

  • 유비쿼터스 시대의 도래에 따른 서비스의 고급화는 다양한 형태의 사용자 단말기의 개발을 유도하였으며, 이러한 사용자 단말기의 변화는 다양한 형태의 인간친화형 사용자 인터페이스의 개발로 이어지게 되었다. 이러한 다양한 형태의 인간친화형 사용자 인터페이스 중, 인간의 뇌를 활용한 사용자 인터페이스, 즉, BCI에 관한 연구가 최근 산발적으로 다양하게 진행되고 있다. 현재 진행되어지고 있는 다양한 형태의 BCI 관련 연구들은, 연구 초기 수준을 극복하지 못하는 실정이며, 이러한 연구개발의 지체 이유로는 체계적인 연구가 진행되어지지 않고 있다는 점을 들 수 있다. 대부분의 HCI 또는 BCI 관련 연구들은 생체신호를 수집하여 신호처리 과정을 거치게 되며, 이때 중요한 연구요소중의 하나로 DB구축 분야를 들 수 있다. 하지만 현재 진행되고 있는 대부분의 BCI 관련 연구의 경우 DB구축부터 시작한 체계적인 연구가 이루어지고 있지 않는 실정이다. 뇌파를 제외한 다른 생체신호, 즉 오감자극을 활용한 HCI 연구와는 달리, 뇌파 DB의 경우 피험자를 제외한 다른 연구 관련자들은 현재 피험자로부터 수집되어지고 있는 DB가 실험에 필요한 적절한 신호인지 구분하기 힘든 실정이다. 또한, 뇌파 신호의 수집 시 연구관련 자들은 피험자에게 정확한 지침을 제시하지 못하고 있는 실정이며 어떠한 방법으로 피험자가 실험에 집중하여야 확연한 패턴을 보이는 차별화 된 뇌파 신호의 생성이 가능한지 명확하게 알려지지 않은 실정이다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 뇌파를 활용한 BCI구현과 사용자 의지에 따른 활용 시 보다 정확하고 높은 인식률 구현을 하기 위한 기초 연구 방안으로 정확하고 효율적인 뇌파 DB구축 시스템을 제안한다. 또한 현재까지 명확하게 알려지지 않은 효과적인 뇌파생성 방안을 동시에 연구하기 위하여 오감자극을 활용한 뇌파 DB 수집이 가능한 구축 시스템을 구현하며 각 방법에 따라 구축되어진 뇌파의 패턴 분석을 통한 효율적인 뇌파 DB구축 방안을 제안한다.

  • The design of space, which focuses on human senses and perception, has become more prominent. It can be understood as the space needed for a field of experience. Phenomenological attitude focuses on the relations between human in the context of their environment. The experiences generated were used as a method of design. The method guides a formation of active space through phenomenological experience in interior space as well as architecture. To stimulate a phenomenological sensitive experience, the parameters for certain experiences were connected to the five senses, finally creating a concrete space. Water, light, air, vapor, and earth as architectural media are connected to the five senses and lead to intermediation from abstract to actual. In particular, water is deeply rooted in peoples subconsciousness and stimulates our instincts. Using water by effectively combining its symbols and physical characteristics will be a method to reinforce the experience with a given space. This study will examine the need for space experience and characteristics of water as an essential elements for perception experience and present possible experimental design.

  • 오늘날 '컨버전스'와 '소통'은 모든 분야에서 키워드가 되고 있다. 예술가와 공학자는 새로운 기술에 기반을 둔 협업을 통해 그 동안의 상호단절에서 벗어나 점차 소통하고 있다. 컨버전스 시대에 예술 영역의 인터넷 아트와 기술 영역의 내비게이션과 아이폰에서 오감융합기술의 활용이 돋보인다. 소메라와 미뇨노의 인터넷 아트 $\ll$Riding the Net$\gg$, $\ll$The Living Room$\gg$, $\ll$The Living Web$\gg$은 음성인식을 통한 시각이미지와 촉각을 통한 시 공간 표현을 인터넷과 오감융합기술을 통해 구현하고 있다. 그리고 산업기술에서 내비게이션과 아이폰은 음성인식을 통한 오감융합기술을 적용하여 감성영역을 확장하여 인터넷 아트와 비슷한 기술을 선보인다. 이 연구에서 살펴본 바와 같이, 예술과 기술의 융합적 발전은 디지털 아트와 문화기술 산업의 새로운 지평을 열 것으로 보인다.

  • Recently, localized heavy rain storms have been occurring frequently due to global warming, and it is difficult to shield a large number of facilities against disaster with limited manpower. The unmanned water treatment system uses five senses to analyze various judgment criteria, which are set according to field situations such as machine vibrations, the temperature of bearings, the sound of the operating machines, and the hydraulic pressure, current, and voltage of the hydraulic floodgates. It thus judges normal or abnormal operation status and conducts unmanned control of such machines. It automatically applies a system to the interruption of communications and therefore improves the reliability of its unmanned irrigation facilities. It maximizes the operational efficiency of managers responsible for various fields, enabling them to discharge water before the situation escalates to a crisis within the golden time, and to protect against damage to humans and property.

예술 지능에 기반한 호텔 객실의 디자인 사례 분석 - 은신처와 감각을 활용한 생명감 체험을 중심으로 - (Design Case Analysis of Hotel Room Based on Artistic Quotient - Focused on the Experience of Livability Using Refuge and Sense -)

  • The study is aimed to analyze cases of hotel room designs based on the 'Art Quotient'. It is focused on design elements of livability, analyzing the space design in terms of biophilic design and experiential marketing. This paper proposes a direction for hotel design based on the analysis result. The scope of the study includes the cases of 17 hotels in the area of Seoul achieving five stars in Korea. This paper presents an analysis whether the room space of hotels provide a user-oriented life experience from the perspective of biophilic design and experiential marketing. In this study, we focused on the concept of 'refuge', one of the biophilic design elements that express the value of life sense, and the element of 'sense', one of the strategic experiential modules of experiential marketing. After analyzing the hotel case studies, the space was evaluated using five factors of art quotient as a design method to provide a life experience in the hotel room. Analysis of the design space from the viewpoint of refuge, rather than architectural elements, proved that decorative elements appeared most commonly in all hotel rooms. Further, through an analysis based on the measures of 'sense', an experiential element, visual elements were mostly enforced in among the elements of the five senses. In other words, when designing a hotel room space, visual elements such as color, pattern, furniture, lighting and style are mainly utilized. Examining the analysis of the design elements from the point of view of the art quotient, the rooms of all the hotel's suite types include elements of 'communication'. Most of the hotel rooms focused on stimulating the aesthetic sensibility of customers. This resulted in the elements of 'immersion' showing poor results. In conclusion, it is necessary to provide the five senses of the arts index in a balanced manner to provide a life experience through the five senses.

신경 인터페이스 기반 초감각 디바이스 기술 동향 (Neural Interface-based Hyper Sensory Device Technology Trend)

  • Sensory devices have been developed to help people with disabled or weakened sensory functions. Such devices play a role in collecting and transferring data for the five senses (vision, sound, smell, taste, and tactility) and also stimulating nerves. To provide brain or prosthesis devices with more sophisticated senses, hyper sensory devices with a high resolution comparable to or even better than the human system based on individual neuron cells are essential. As for data collecting components, technologies for sensors with higher resolution and sensitivity, and the conversion of algorithms from physical sensing data to human neuron signals, are needed. Converted data can be transferred to neurons that are responsible for human senses through communication with high security, and neural interfaces with high resolution. When communication deals with human data, security is the most important consideration, and intra-body communication is expected to be a candidate with high priority. To generate sophisticated human senses by modulating neurons, neural interfaces should modulate individual neurons, and therefore a high resolution compared to human neurons (~ several tens of um) with a large area covering neuron cells for human senses (~ several tens of mm) should be developed. The technological challenges for developing sensory devices with human and even beyond-human capabilities have been tackled by various research groups, the details of which are described in this paper.
