  • Purpose: This study was conducted to determine if women's depression is influenced by their self esteem, stress, and social support. Methods: This study was a descriptive survey, and data were collected from the November 1 to December 20, 2015 using a self-reported questionnaire. The measurements were SES for self esteem, and CES-D for depression. A total of 165 middle-aged women participated through convenient sampling. Results: There were significant difference in self-esteem according to education level and monthly income. Additionally, there was an inverse correlation between stress and self esteem, as well as a significant strong correlation between self esteem, stress, social support and depression. Finally, multiple regression showed that self-esteem and stress had significant effects on depression, and their explanatory power was ${\Delta}R2(%)=47.9$ (${\Delta}F=66.526$, p<.001), p<.001). Conclusion: This study confirmed that depression was closely related to self-esteem and stress among middle-aged women. Based on these findings, we suggest that the health policies of reducing depression for middle-aged women should focus on reducing stress and reinforcing their self-esteem.

The respondents in this study were 697 school aged children attending elementary schools in Daegu and Gyeongbuk Province. Questionnaires, which required self-reporting by children, were used to investigate mother attachment, peer attachment and depression. The collected data were analyzed by Structural Equation Modeling(SEM) and Sobel test using AMOS 8.0, and SPSS 15.0. The results of the study were as follows. Structural Equation Modeling(SEM) revealed that peer attachment partially mediated the relationship between mother attachment and depression. First, mother attachment had a direct effect on peer attachment. Second, peer attachment had a direct effect on depression. Third, mother attachment had an indirect effect on depression as a mediated effect of peer attachment.

  • Objectives : The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between depressive symptom, spiritual well-being and state hope in early adults and middle aged patients with depression. Methods : A total of 180 outpatient were surveyed with Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), Functional Assessment of Chronic Illness Therapy-Spiritual Well-being Scale (FACIT-Sp) and The State Hope Scale (SHS). Mean scores of BDI, FACIT-Sp and SHS were compared between two groups of different age. Correlation analysis and multiple linear regression analyses were performed to identify the effect of BDI and FACIT on SHS according to age. Results : Mean scores of SHS and FACIT were higher significantly in middle aged group than early adults group, while BDI was not different between two groups. And early adults and middle aged patient's state hope showed a significantly negative correlation with spiritual well-being. In regression analysis, the effect of BDI, FACIT on SHS were significant in both groups and the regression model explained 42% of the variance of state hope in early adults group and 26% in middle aged group, respectively. Conclusion : These findings suggest that in depressive symptom and low state hope relationship, spirituality is important protective factor in both aged adult outpatients with depression.

For the analysis, the 8th survey of the Women's Family Panel surveyed by the Korea Women's Policy Institute was used. For the sample, SPSS WIN 25.0 was used for 1,673 married middle-aged women aged 55 to 64. As for the analysis method, frequency, technical statistics, and correlation analysis were performed, and the mediating effect of depression was verified through Baron & Kenny's analysis method. The main analysis results are as follows. First, the stress daily of middle-aged women had a negative (-) effect on happiness. Second, Depression was partially mediated in the relationship between daily stress and happiness in middle-aged women. Based on these results, it is significant in that it presents practical and policy measures and programs that can improve middle-aged women's happiness and lead to old age.

  • This study analyzed whether depression and social support had a mediating effect between income status and life satisfaction of middle-aged and elderly people with disabilities using data from the 15th year of the Korea Welfare Panel data. As a result of the analysis, first, the income status of the middle-aged and disabled was depressed(B=.241, p<.001), social support(B=-.167, p<.001), and life satisfaction(B=-.277, p<.001) was confirmed to have a direct effect. Second, the mediating effect of depression and social support was verified on the influence between the income status of middle-aged and disabled people between life satisfaction. Third, it was confirmed that depression and social support had a multi-mediating effect between the income status and life satisfaction of middle-aged and disabled people. Therefore, an income support system that supports middle-aged and disabled people to live at an appropriate level should be prepared. In addition, in order to increase the life satisfaction of middle-aged and disabled people, it is necessary to intervene in mental health support services that can actively cope with depression and to expand the social support network.
