Ti/Ni multilayered films (MLF) are ideal for neutron optics particularly in neutron guides and focusing devices. This system also possesses the tendency of amorphization through a solid-state reaction (SSR). This behaviors are closely related to the electronic structures and both magneto-optical (MO) and optical properties of metals depend strongly on their electron energy structures. Mutual inter-diffusion of the Tin and Ni atoms in the MLF caused by a low temperature annealing should decrease the thickness of pure Ni, as well as change the chemical and atomic order in the reactive zone. The application of the MO spectroscopy to the study of SSR in the MLF allows us to obtain an additional information on the changes in the atomic and chemical orders in the interface region. The optical one has no restriction on the magnetic state of the constituent sublayers. Therefore, the changes in magnetic, MO and optical properties of the Ti/Ni MLF due to SSR can be expected. To the best of our knowledge, the MO and optical spectroscopies were not used for this purpose. SSR has been studied in the series of the Ti/Ni MLFs with bilayer periods of 0.65-22.2nm and constant ratio of the Ti to Ni sublayers thickness by using MO and optical spectroscopies as well as an x-ray diffraction. The experimental MO and optical spectra are compared with the computer-simulated spectra, assuming various interface models. The relative changes in the x-ray diffraction spectra and MO properties of the Ti/Ni MLF caused by annealing are bigger for the multilayers with "thick" sublayers, or the SSR with the formation of amorphous alloy takes place mainly in the Ti/Ni multilayers with "thick" sublayers, while in the nominal threshold thickness of the Ni-sublayer for the observation of the equatorial Kerr effect in the as-deposited and annealed Ti/Ni MLFs of about 3.0 and 4.5nm thick is explained by the formation of amorphous alloy during the deposition or the formation of the nonmagnetic alloyed regions between pure components as a result of the SSR. For the case of Ti/Ni MLF the MO approach is more sensitive for the determination of the thickness of the reacted zone, while x-ray diffraction is more useful for structural analyses.structural analyses.

In this paper, w designed an opical power distribution device for application to an optical switching and an optical subscriber loop. We fabricated PSG thin film by LPCVD. Based on the measured index of fabricted thin film, rib-type waveguide was transformed to two-dimension by the effective index method and we simulated dispersion property to find asingle-mode condition. We found that the optimum design parameters of rib-type waveguide are:cladding layer of 3.mu.m, core layer of 3.mu.m, buffer layer of 10.mu.m, and core width of 4.mu.m. Each side of the guiding region was etched down to 4.mu.m to shape the core. We used these optimum parameters of the rib-type waveguide with branching angle of 0.5.deg. and simulted the Y-branch waveguide by the BPM simulation. Numerical loss in branching area was claculated to be 0.1581dB and equal to the total loss of the Y-branch. The loss of the fabricated Y-branch waveguide on PSG film ws 1.6dB at .lambda.=1.3.mu.m before annealing but was 1.2dB after annealing at 1000.deg. C for 10 minutes. Consequently, the loss of branching area from 3000.mu.m to 6000.mu.m in the z-direction was 0.8dB, and single-mode propagation was confirmed by measuring the near field pattern. For coupling the fabricated Y-branch waveguide with an optical fiber, we fabricated V-groove which was used as the upholder of optical fiber. An etching angle was 54.deg. and the width and depth of guiding groove was 150.mu.m, 70.mu.m, respectively. The optical fiber is inserted onto V-groove. Both the Y-branch and V-groove were connected through the index matching oil. Coupling loss after connecting Y-branch and the optical fiber on V-groove was 0.34dB and that after injecting index mateching oil was 0.14dB.

Injection molding is one of the most common operations in polymer processing. Good quality products are usually obtained and major post-processing treatment is not required. However, residual stresses which exist in plastic parts affect the final shape and mechanical properties after ejection. Residual stresses are caused by polymer melt flow, pressure distribution, non-uniform temperature field, and density distribution. Residual stresses are predicted in this study by numerical methods using commercially available softwares, $Hypermesh^{TM},\;Moldflow^{TM}\;and\;ABAQUS^{TM}$. Cavity filling, packing, and cooling stages are simulated to predict residual stress field right after ejection by assuming an isotropic elastic solid. Thermo-viscoelastic stress analysis is carried out to predict deformation and residual stress distribution after annealing of the part. Residual stresses are measured by the hole drilling method because the automotive part selected in this study has a complex shape. Residual stress distribution predicted by the thermal stress analysis is compared with the measurement results obtained by the hole drilling method. The molded specimen has residual stress distribution in tension, compression, and tension from the surface to the center of the part. Viscoelastic deformation of the part is predicted during annealing and the deformed geometry is compared with that measured by a three dimensional scanner. The viscoelastic stress analysis with a thermal cycle will enable us to predict long term behavior of the injection molded polymeric parts.

Among processes to manufacture parts from footwear materials like upper leathers, one of the most essential processes is the cutting one optimally arranging lots of parts on raw footwear materials and cutting. A new nesting strategy was proposed for the 2-dimensional part layout by using a two-stage approach, where which can be effectively used for water jet cutting. In the initial layout stage, a SOAL(Self-Organization Assisted Layout) based on the combination of FCM(Fuzzy C-Means) and SOM was adopted. In the layout improvement stage, SA(Simulated Annealing) based approach was adopted for a finer layout. The proposed approach saves much CPU time through a two-stage approach scheme, while other annealing-based algorithm so far reported fur a nesting problem are computationally expensive. The proposed nesting approach uses the stochastic process, and has a much higher possibility to obtain a global solution than the deterministic searching technique. We developed the automatic nesting software of NST(ver.1.1) software for footwear industry by implementing of these proposed algorithms. The NST software was applied by the optimized automatic arrangement algorithm to cut without the loss of leathers. if possible, after detecting damage areas. Also, NST software can consider about several features in not only natural loathers but artificial ones. Lastly, the NST software can reduce a required time to implement generation of NC code. cutting time, and waste of raw materials because the NST software automatically performs parts arrangement, cutting paths generation and finally NC code generation, which are needed much effect and time to generate them manually.

This paper presents an approach for rate control by adaptively selecting macroblock modes in video coding. The problem of rate control has been investigated by many authors where quantizer level is adjustedbased on the buffer fullness. The proposed approach is different fron the previous ones [4] id that it finds the optimal decision curve rather than finding a set of the modes. Proposed algorithm extends the coding decision options for rate control to motion/no-motion compensation as well as inter/intra decisions. Instead of having a fixed motion/no-notion compensation or inter/intra decision curve, one can utilize an adaptive decision curvebased on the characteristics of input frames so that the PSNR at a given bit rate is maximized. Therefore, the proposed approach provides better rate control than simple quantizer feedback approach interns of visual quality. The curve is obtained by utilizing simulated annealing optimization technique. Thealgorithm is implemented and simulations are compared with other approaches within H.261 video codec.

Evapotranspiration is a significant hydrologic quantity for understanding the amount of available water resource evaluation, water balance analysis, water circulation and energy circulation. Various methods have been developed for estimating the evapotranspiration using data observed at meteorological observatories. Especially, the focus of methods has been on the complementary relationship that the actual evapotranspiration is equal to the difference between the twice of evapotranspiration in the wet condition and the potential evapotranspiration. The Granger and Gary (GG) method is an empirical formula that can be used to estimate the evapotranspiration using only empirical parameters based on the complementary relationship and using only the net radiation and temperature of the region. In this study, we compared the evapotranspiration data observed at 10 sites in Asia within the dataset of FLUXNET2015, with the evapotranspiration calculated by GG method. The evapotranspiration in inland area was estimated more accurately than that of coastal area. Simulated Annealing (SA) was used for the coastal area to modify the parameters. Using the modified GG method, we could improve the statistics such as root mean square error, the coefficient of determination ($R^2$), and the mean absolute ${\mid}BIAS{\mid}$ of the evapotranspiration estimation in coastal area.
The two-dimensional bin packing problem(2D-BPP) has been known to be NP-hard, and it is difficult to solve the problem exactly. Many approximation methods, such as genetic algorithm, simulated annealing and tabu search etc, have been also proposed to gain better solutions. However, the existing approximation algorithms, such as branch-and-bound and tabu search, have shown the low efficiency and the long execution time due to a large of iterations. To solve these problems, we first define the fitness function to simplify and increase the utility of algorithm. The function decides whether an item is packed into a given area, and as an important information for a packing strategy, the number of subarea that can accommodate a given item is obtained from the variant of the fitness function. Then we present a heuristic algorithm BF for 2D bin packing, constructed by the fitness function and subarea. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm will be expressed by the comparison experiments with the heuristic and the metaheuristic of the literatures. As comparing with existing heuristic algorithms and metaheuristic algorithms, it has been found that the packing rate of algorithm BP is the same as 97% as existing heuristic algorithms, FFF and FBS, or better than them. Also, it has been shown the same as 86% as tabu search algorithm or better.
The purpose of this study is to consider the interaction between surface water and groundwater in basin scale by developing TANK_GS model. The soil moisture structure of tank model with 3 tanks is improved to simulate the appropriate stream-aquifer interactions. Maximum likelihood method is applied to calibrate parameters with variance functions to deal with heteroscedasticity of residuals. The parameters of improved TANK_GS model and variance function are simultaneously estimated by Simulated Annealing method, a global optimization technique. The results of TANK-GE are compared to those of the SWMM-GE model which had been developed to consider the stream-aquifer interactions. The new TANK_GS model and SWMM-GE model are applied to Gapcheon basin, which belongs to Geum River basin. TANK_GS model showed better model performance compared to the original TANK model and characterized the relationship of stream-aquifer interactions as satisfactorily as the SWMM-GE model. The sustainable groundwater yield can be estimated for the regional water resources planning using the TANK_GS model

Crashworthy fuel cells have been widely implemented to rotorcraft and rendered a great contribution for improving the survivability of crews and passengers. Since the embryonic stage of military rotorcraft history began, the US army has developed and practised a detailed military specification documenting the unique crashworthiness requirements for rotorcraft fuel cells to prevent most fatality due to post-crash fire. Foreign manufacturers have followed their long term experience to develop their fuel cells, and have reflected the results of crash impact tests on the trial-and-error based design and manufacturing procedures. Since the crash impact test itself takes a long-term preparation efforts together with costly fuel cell specimens, a series of numerical simulations of the crash impact test with digital mock-ups is necessary even at the early design stage to minimize the possibility of trial-and-error with full-scale fuel cells. In the present study a number of numerical simulations on fuel cell crash impact tests are performed with a crash simulation software, Autodyn. The resulting equivalent stresses are further analysed to evaluate a number of appropriate design parameters and the artificial neural network and simulated annealing method are simultaneously implemented to optimize the crashworthy performance of fuel cells.
The IMRT planning depends on the algorithm of each planning system and MLC performance of each Linac system. Yonsei Cancer Center introduced an IMRT System at the beginning of February, 2002. The system consists of CORVUS (Nomos, U.S.A.) treatment planning system, LANTIS, PRIMEVIEW and PRIMART (Siemens, U.S.A) linac system. The optimization of CORVUS planning system with PRIMART is an important task to make a desirable quality treatment plan. Our Step & Shoot IMRT system uses Finite Size Pencil Beams (FSPB) dose model, simulated annealing optimization algorithm and IMFAST segmentation algorithm. We constructed treatment plans for four different patient cases with two basic beamlet sizes, 1.0$\times$1.0 $\textrm{cm}^2$ and 0.5$\times$1.0 $\textrm{cm}^2$, and four intensity steps, 5%, 10%, 20%, 33%. Each case's plan was evaluated with the dose volume histograms of target volumes and delivery efficiencies. The patient case of small target volume is sensitive at the change of intensity map's segmentation and it highlighted an effective treatment plan at marrow intensity step and small basic projection beamlet.
