  • The objective of this study has two filds. The first is to examine the effect of native employee's psychological capital on their pro-social organizational behavior in the context of a local subsidiary in abroad. The second is to investigate the moderation effect of non-native managers' leadership type in the relationships between psychological capital and pro-social organizational behavior. The researcher provides the theoretical research model based on the pro-social capital theory and then empirically tests the model by using a valid 334-case collected from three overseas-affiliated-companies in Philippines. The results show that native employees' psychological capital positively and significantly influences to pro-social organizational behavior. Moreover, non-native managers' type of leaderships has the significant moderation effects in relationships between native workers' psychological capital and pro-social organizational behavior. Specifically, stronger relationships are identified in all of relationships when the managers show transactional, transformational and authentic leaderships. Theoretical contributions and practical recommendations are also discussed based on the results of the study.

  • This study has developed the index for diagnosis on possibility that typhoons (TYs) affect Korea. This index is closely related to the strength of the western North Pacific high (WNPH), which is calculated as a difference in meridional wind between at the highest correlation area (around Korea) and at the lowest correlation area (sea southeast of Japan) through a correlation analysis between TC frequency that affects Korea and 500 hPa meridional wind. In low frequency years that selected from Korea affecting TC index, anomalous northeasterly is strengthened from Korea to the South China Sea because the center of anomalous anticyclonic circulation is located to northwest of Korea. Thus, TCs tend to move westward from the sea east of the Philippines to the mainland China. On the other hand, in high frequency years, anomalous southwesterly serves as steering flow that more TCs move toward Korea because the center of anomalous anticyclonic circulation is located to sea east of Japan. Consequently, this study suggests that if this index is calculated using real time 500 hPa meridional winds that forecasted by dynamic models during the movement of TCs, the possibility that TCs approach Korea can be diagnosed in real time.

  • The potential of using GIS in analyzing pest surveillance data was explored. The Spatial Analysis System (SPANS) was used to construct a spatial data base to study pest distributions using pest surveillance data collected from 152 stations in South Korea. The annual spatIal distributions of the striped rice borer(SRB), Chdo suppressalis, showed that high densities started to expand in the early 1980s, reaching a peak in 1988. The pattern change appears to be related to cultivation of japonica and indica-japonica hybrid varieties in South Korea. Japo7l!ca varieties have longer duration resulting in the SRB haVlng more time to mature and hibernate in wmter. The locus of SRB spread appears to be located in the mid-west region near lri, Chun~ Buk Province. High brown planthopper (BPH) populations in South Korea are often related to the early immigration and temperature. The simulated distribution of PPH densities in September using these two factors was compared with the actual distribution obtained using 1990 data. The two density maps corresponded closely excepL for differences in the south eastern valley. By overlaying the simulated map layer with the elevation and rice area maps, more specific BPH risk zones could be identified.

  • Purpose: The purposes of this study were to develop a postpartum nursing intervention program for immigrant women and evaluate the effects on postpartum depression, child rearing confidence, home environment, and infant temperament. Methods: This research was a non-equivalent control group pre-test and post-test design. Participants were pregnant immigrant women from China, Vietnam, and the Philippines residing in Kyunggi province and Seoul. Twenty women were assigned to the intervention group, and 19 women to the control group. For the intervention group, the women were visited at home and provided emotional support and parenting education for three months. To analyze the intervention effects, repeated measure ANOVA and t-test were used. Results: Child rearing confidence was higher in the experimental group than the control group at interaction effect of time and group, six weeks and three months postpartum. However, there were no significant effects for maternal depression, infant temperament, and husband support. Home Observation for Measurement of the Environment (HOME) score in the experimental group was higher than that of the control group at three month postpartum. Conclusion: Results indicate that the nursing intervention program had positive effects and can be used to further the health status of immigrant mothers and children.

  • An average of two to three typhoons that occur in the Philippines or Taiwan pass through Korea each year owing to the influence of the geographical location and western winds. Because Jinhae Bay is known as Korea's representative typhoon refuge, it is filled with ships during typhoons and later becomes saturated with ships anchored to the surrounding routes. If a strong wind drags an anchored ship, a collision accident may occur because of the short distance between the ships. Therefore, a systematic anchoring safety management of Jinhae Bay is required. In this study, the minimum wind speeds of a dragging anchor based on the water depths of Jinhae Bay anchorages were investigated. When 7-9 shackles were given, the minimum wind speeds were 48-63, 46-61, and 39-54 knots at depths of 20, 35, and 50 m, respectively. As the water depth increased, the length of the cable laid on the sea bed became shorter than 5 m owing to the external force, and the minimum wind speed showed a significant difference of 4-8 knots. In addition, ships with high holding power anchors (AC-14 type) had higher minimum wind speeds than ships with conventional anchors (ASS type). Finally, it was confirmed that at a depth of 50 m, dragging easily occurred even when a high holding power anchor was applied.

  • A Convergence Research Study of Southern Fujian Region in China during the Song Dynasty analyzing the Export of Ceramics During the Song Dynasty in China ceramics made in the Southern Fujian (also known as Minnan) region were exported to different countries in Southeast Asia including the Philippines, Thailand and more. They were even exported to Korea, Japan and through trade they traveled as far as Africa. Ceramics was one of the three main sea route export item of China at the time and there were active commercial trading between Korea as well as other countries, enabling ceramics to develop rapidly. The harmonious reciprocal relationship between the geographical, political, cultural, economical characteristics of Southern Fujian enabled a unique type of celadon ware widely recognized to develop. Ceramics of this region is one of a kind in terms of history when we relate it to research on integrating different elements. It suggests a unique convergence of culture when we study its forms and its industrial characteristics. The study attempts to analyze the influence of geography, politics, economy and culture on the different phenomena found in ceramics. Different paradigms associated with changes of environment reflect on continued development in the field of ceramics.

  • ODA (Official Development Assistance) aims for practicing international humanitarianism in developing countries. However, ODA donors also seek to find convincing evidence meeting the national economic & political interests in the international community. In this regards, precise & unbiased estimation of the policy effects of ODA aid on the donors' exports to the recipient countries has recently become one of the primary concerns of the ODA donors, especially developing countries including Korea of which economy structure heavily relies on exports for economic growth. Based on the basic gravity model, this study empirically analyzes the effects of technical cooperation ODA delivering skills, knowledge and technical know-how on Korea's exports to the ODA recipient countries using 10-year panel data from 2007 to 2016. Specifically, by incorporating major variables affecting trade such as GDP, distance, FDI etc, the effect of technical cooperation ODA on Korea's exports to the ODA recipient countries is estimated with various kinds of panel models. As a result, technical cooperation ODA has a statistically significant impact on Korea's exports to ODA recipient countries, especially in the exports of intermediate goods. And the detail process of this black-boxed mechanism is scrutinized through case studies on Uzbekistan, The Philippines, and Morocco.

  • Typhoon numbers and intensity according to the sea areas of occurrence(sea area of A : Caroline Marshall Islands and vicinity, sea area of B : north of $20^{\circ}N$, sea area of C : greater coasting area of Philippines, sea area of D : South China Sea) were analyzed for 22years from 1986 to 2007 using the meteorological administration's data. Yearly mean typhoon numbers are 26.3 and are showed decreasing trend in the sea areas of A, B, C and D. The decreasing trend is especially notable in the sea area of A and is slight in the sea area of D. Yearly mean typhoon number is most in the sea area of A(13.8, about 53% of all), the next orders are the sea area C(5.6, about 21%), sea area of B(3.8, about 14%) and sea area of D(3.1, about 12%). Typhoon intensity is strongest in the sea area of A(mean central minimum pressure : 951hPa), the next orders are the sea area C(970hPa), sea area of B(975hPa) and sea area of D(983hPa). The time series of yearly mean central minimum pressures for whole sea area is showed slightly decreasing trend, it means that typhoon intensity is strengthened gradually. Results of this ste seare in accord with simulated results on typhoon vntrations in the global warming.

  • Since Tongil has been cultivated widely in farmers' fields, the variety is known to be highly resistant to existing races of Pyricularia oryzae in Korea. However, Tongil and the sister lines were moderately susceptible to race IA-65, which was isolated from Tongil at the blast nursery of the College of Agriculture, Seoul National University, 1972. In field tests of 1973, pathogenic reactions of IR lines at the isolated nursery, where IA-65 had been inoculated, were significantly higher than those at the farm nursery. When seedlings of 196 IR lines were inoculated with IA65, about $30\%$ of the IR lines including IR667-98 were moderately susceptible. Among the 30 isolates of P. oryzae obtained mostly from indicas, 12 were also differentiated in 1973 as IA group known to be the most prevalent races at IRRI in the Philippines, where Tongil has been highly susceptible. This IA group was also pathogenic to Tongil in greenhouse experiments. The race group causing moderately susceptible to Tongil should be new in Korea, since no occurrences of the race IA have ever been reported previously from the areas where japonica types of rice are cultivated. Because some races of P. oryzae present in Korea are pathogenic to Tongil and because these races may become prevalent in the fields, the reaction of Tongil must be continuously monitored.

  • Using methods of principle component analysis and pattern of analysis. Korean food supply pattern and its change (1962-1969) have been compared whit those of other 40 countries. 1) Among the 4 groups classified on the first and second principle components, Korea belongs to the highest crop grain dependent group of Asia. Although Korea is identified as one of the highest crop consuming countries among the group, a significant increase in the consumption of fruits and vegetables is noticed during the period. 2) According to the pattern of numerics analysis Korean food supply pattern (1969) is similar with those of Japan (1949), philippines, Taiwan, while is quite apart from those of U.S.A., W. Germany, France and Australia. 3) During the period the food supply pattern of Korea has been changed significantly toward the more common locations on the world food supply pattern map. Yet the location is far from the desirable one and its moving direction is characteristic, differing not only those of Europian countries but also Asian neighborhoods. this unique pattern should receive a careful examination and thus proper measures should be undertaken to take care of optimal nation's nutritional requirements.
