Making Sense of Loss and Belongingness: Korean Transracial Adoptees' Journey from Europe to Korea

  • From 1953 to 2015, approximately 200,000 children born in Korea were adopted into foreign countries. Many studies have focused on Korean adoptees growing up in the US, as the majority of these children were adopted by American families. In comparison, research on Korean transracial adoptees raised in European countries is limited. Thus, the current study aims to highlight the journey of Korean transracial adoptees from Europe to Korea. Three participants narrated their life stories as adoptees in two separate interview sessions. The findings of this study call attention to the adoptees' ongoing reconsideration of their identity as they assimilate life experiences within two disparate cultural settings in Europe and Korea. The study found that ambiguous loss faced by the adoptees from their childhood in Europe continued to their adulthood in Korea. Major themes of the participants' narratives in their journey from Europe to Korea focused on their feelings of loss and the lack of belongingness. This study found that the sense of loss and the lack of belongingness changed over time. Participants were active agents in the process of their journey from Europe to Korea, as they constantly worked to adapt to and improve their situation in face of adversity.

The Heroic Journey in Yeats's Cuchulain Plays

  • According to Joseph Campbell, there is always a similar pattern in the hero myth, which is called hero's journey. The legends about Cuchulain, the great Irish warrior, also follow this pattern. W. B. Yeats adapts the legends into his plays with Cuchulain as the protagonist. This paper discusses the protagonist's heroic journey in the five Cuchulain plays written by Yeats. In the five plays, Cuchulain grows, matures, weakens, dies, and resurrects, completing and meanwhile sublimating his heroic journey. In At the Hawk's Well, Cuchulain shows potential qualities of a hero. The Green Helmet displays his self-growth through the depiction of his heroic merits which make him a true hero. In On Baile's Strand, the hero suffers from the major frustrations and tribulations in his heroic journey and is stricken down consequently. The Only Jealousy of Emer reflects the hero's inner struggle and vulnerability. The last play, The Death of Cuchulainn, marks the end and reincarnation of the hero's life. Through the depiction of Cuchulain's heroic journey in the five plays, his heroic qualities are well demonstrated. Meanwhile, Yeats's views of heroism can be found as well.

화랑의 순유(巡遊)와 향가 (Hwarang's journey and Hyangga)

  • In spite of a few numbers of Hyangga that is handed down today, Hyangga has diverse and abundant contents. So it is possible to survey Hyangga as a journey literature of the middle age. On this purpose we can inquire into the Hwarangs' group journey, because the Hwarang was one of the main enjoying group of Hyangga. Hwarangs' group journey shows many aspects. They made a journey for the public purpose like a tour of inspection of people's daily life and the fortresses of the country's peripheral areas. Also, they made a journey for personal purposes like enjoying the attractive view of the mountains and rivers or seeking pretty girls outside of the palace. On these journeys, Hwarang made and enjoyed Hyanggas. Among Hyanggas that remains today, Hyeseongga and Cheoyongga have a direct relation to Hwarang's journey. Hyeseongga was made to eliminate the calamities that occurred at the time of the start of a journey. It is expressed in this poem that Hwarang could take a peaceful trip with the condition that the celestial objects shed light on the earth path. As such, the trip becomes a sacred ceremony. Cheoyongga reflects the fact that the foreigner Cheoyong became Hwarang and toured the streets of Seorabeol, the capital of Shilla. The Cheoyong's bitterness of broken love is expressed in this poem. SongSadahamga and MoJukjirangga come under a broad category of Hwarang's journey literature. SongSadahamga is a farewell poem for Hwarang who leaves to fight on the battlefield. It was universal to make a journey for the fighting of a battle in Shilla period, so many Hyanggas would be made under those situations. MoJukjirangga has the content of Hwarang's trip for saving his follower who was taken by another senior. It expresses the intimate relationship between Hwarang and the follower. Though the words of the song have not been remained, Hyeongeumpogok, Daedogok, and Mungungok were created on the way of Hwarang's journey. These seem to be a series poems which have the proper characteristic features of the Hwarang's journey literature. In these poems, the king's open mind and liberal political views are reflected. In short, Hwarang created and enjoyed Hyanggas on the way of their journey, so Hyangga has the features of journey literature in Korean middle ages.

디지털 시대의 고객여정 (Customer journey in the digital age)

  • 디지털화의 급격한 진전은 우리의 삶에 큰 변화를 주고 있다. 모바일로 대변되는 디지털화로 인하여 고객의 여정은 이전과는 다른 양상을 보이고 있다. 이에 본 연구에서는 디지털 시대의 고객여정을 분석하였다. 먼저 고객여정 관련 연구에 대해 시대별 흐름과 쟁점을 분석하였다. 이후 디지털시대의 고객여정을 이전 시대와 비교 분석하였다. 기존의 고객여정을 설명하고 분석하는 이론적 토대가 된 구매 깔때기 모형의 위계적 선형성 가정은 더 이상 디지털 시대에는 맞지 않음을 기존 연구를 바탕으로 규명해보고자 했다. 보다 많은 실증적 연구가 뒷받침 되어야하겠지만 디지털 시대의 고객여정은 이전 시대의 고객여정과 달리 순환형의 비선형을 띠고 있다는 가설이 채택될 수 있다. 고객 여정의 순환형의 비선형성은 기존의 마케팅 전략이나 고객관리 측면에서 많은 시사점을 주고 있다. 본 연구는 고객여정관련 문헌연구를 바탕으로 이루어 졌으며, 이에 대한 실증적 연구가 결여되어있다. 향후 연구에서는 실증적인 분석을 통해 디지털시대의 고객여정을 규명할 필요가 있다. 아울러 산업별로 디지털 고객여정이 상이할 수 있으므로 산업간 비교분석을 해볼 필요 역시 있다.

성별에 따른 여가생활에 관한 연구 (A Study on Leisure Life in Accordance with Gender)

  • The purpose of this study is to provide basic information necessary for improving the satisfaction and quality of leisure life and thereon propose better leisure life programs in accordance with gender. For the purpose, this researcher made a questionnaire survey of 560 persons between July and December 2003 to know the trend and satisfaction of their leisure life in accordance with their gender. Results of the study can be summarized as below; First. the extent to which the surveyed persons participated in leisure life was highest in terms of other leisure activities, followed by self-development. viewing activities, sports activities and journey in order. The satisfaction of leisure life participation by those surveyed persons was scored 3 or over in average, meaning 'generally satisfied'. The time of leisure life participation was most spent in other leisure activities and self-development. Expenses of the participation were highest in terms of other leisure activities. followed by self-development and viewing activities in order. Second, differences in sub-areas of leisure life were analyzed in accordance with gender to show that the degree and time of participation in viewing activities and self-development, expenses of sports activity participation and the degree of participation in journey and others were significantly different between the opposite sexes which were surveyed here. Men were higher in the degree, time and expenses of the participation than women. Third. effects of gender on the satisfaction of leisure life as a whole were determined here to show that men were higher in such satisfaction when they were more satisfactorily participating in sport activities while in case of women, when they were spending more time in sport activities. Women showed a higher satisfaction of leisure life as a whole when they were more frequently and satisfactorily participating in other leisure activities. Based on these results, the researcher proposed effective leisure life programs in accordance with gender.

갑상선암 환자의 방사성요오드 치료경험 (The Experience of Receiving Radioactive Iodine Therapy among Thyroid Cancer Patients)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to explore the meaning of the experience of receiving radioactive iodine therapy among patients with thyroid cancer. Methods: A qualitative research design was adopted. The participants were ten women diagnosed with thyroid cancer who had received radioactive iodine therapy within one year. Data were collected through in-depth interviews from October of 2015 to April of 2016. Individual interviews were recorded, and transcribed data were analyzed using Colaizzi's method. Results: The six categories of the experience of receiving radioactive iodine therapy were "Finally realizing having cancer," "The lonely fight that feels like prison life," "Narrower scope of life," "Lack of understanding by others," "Enduring a short, yet difficult journey," and "A turning point for a new life." Conclusion: This study provides deep insight into the experience of thyroid cancer patients who had received radioactive iodine therapy. Nurses should concern their distress during radioactive iodine treatment and manage psychological difficulties as well as physical symptoms. Support from family and health care providers may help them to overcome the hard journey.

인공환경 분포방식에 의한 보행거리 인지 변화에 대한 연구 - 대학 캠퍼스 내 보행로의 실제거리와 인지거리의 차이를 중심으로 - (The Distortion of Road Distance Perception by the Pattern of Object Distribution - Focused on the Distance Estimation in the Campus by Students -)

  • The behavior of walking involves our action of seeing things. It is the intention of this research that the cognitive process of perceiving things along the path can affect the way we sense the length of the journey. The theory generally accepted in this line of thought is the 'feature accumulation theory'. It assumes that if the journey includes many objects or memorable features, then our memory recalls that journey much farther than it really was. This study set up a real-life experiment by asking university students about their mental memory of the two different routes in the campus. One is a longer path that has not much to look at except trees and the other a shorter path yet with many buildings, sign boards and street furnitures. The subjects processed their mental image in the brain based on their experience. They showed a strong tendency that the path with more features were remembered longer while that with less features shorter. More interestingly, it was found that as their experience increases, they become more accurate about the exact length of the questioned paths. The result corroborates the theory that human perception of space is based on the topological understanding of surroundings rather than geometric understanding.

교원 은퇴자의 삶의 여정에 관한 생애사 연구 (The Life History Study on the Life Journey of Retired Teachers)

  • 본 연구는 생애사 연구로서 교직에서 은퇴한 유·초·중등의 남·여 교원의 삶을 통하여 은퇴의 의미와 적응과정을 탐색하여 교원 은퇴자들에게 개인적·사회적 필요가 무엇일지 알아보고자 하였다. 연구 결과, 어린 시절의 성장 경험과 학창 시절의 경험은 학생에게 선한 영향을 주거나 하지 말아야 할 행위의 한계를 설정하는데 기여하는 등, 오롯이 본인의 직업 수행에 영향을 준 것을 알 수 있었다. 상호의존의 시기에 단순 직업인을 넘어서 사회와 국가에 봉사하는 데에 기여하였고, 교직 후반기에는 아픈 경험이 자원이었고 '생각을 바꾸니 세상이 바뀌었다'는 표현으로 깨달음을 얻었다고 하였다. 교원이 미치는 행위의 영향이 다른 직업과 달리 다수의 대상에게 미친다는 점에서 교원 은퇴자들에게는 은퇴 전의 직업에 대한 보람이나 만족감이 다른 직종과 대비될 정도로 컸다. 그러나 은퇴 후에 교원 은퇴자들은 무한 자유에 행복을 느끼면서도 소속감과 성취감 없는 삶에 심리적인 공허함을 느꼈다. 그리고 새로운 공부에 도전하며 삶의 이모작을 위한 끊임없는 전진을 하고 있었다.

디지털 마케팅에 있어서 심리학 원리 적용사례 (Leveraging Psychology in Digital Marketing : Case Study)

  • 마케팅에 있어서 심리학 원리의 적용은 매우 보편화되고 있는 현상이다. 최근 들어 디지털 마케팅의 중요성이 대두되면서 디지털 마케팅에도 심리학의 원리를 적용하는 사례가 늘어나고 있다. 이에 본 연구에서는 심리학의 원리중 social proof, scarcity and loss aversion, reciprocity, commitment and consistency, anchoring 5가지가 디지털 마케팅에 적용된 사례를 분석하였다. 각각의 심리학 원리에 대해 해외사례 2개, 국내사례 2개를 분석하였다. 이러한 시도는 향후 학제 간 연구를 촉진시킬 수 있을 것이다. 또한, 고객의 몰입도(customer engagement)을 높이고 궁극적으로는 고객생애가치(life time value)를 높여 고객 여정에 선순환 고리를 만드는데 필요한 이용자 인터페이스 개발 및 메시지 전략 개발 등에 유용한 시사점을 제공할 것이다.
