Among effective feature extraction methods from the small-patched image set, independent component analysis (ICA) is recently well known stochastic manner to find informative basis images. The ICA simultaneously learns both basis images and independent components using high order statistic manners, because that information underlying between pixels are sensitive to high-order statistic models. The topographic ICA model is adapted in our experiment. This paper deals with an unsupervised classification strategies using learned ICA basis images. The experimental result by proposed classification technique shows superior performance than classic texture analysis techniques for the panchromatic KOMPSAT imagery.
Since one texture property(i.e coarseness, orientation, regularity, granularity) for ultrasound liver ages was not sufficient enough to classify the characteristics of livers, we used multi texture vectors tracted from ultrasound liver images and a statistical classifier. Multi texture vectors are selected among the feature vectors of the normal liver, fat liver and cirrhosis images which have a good separability in those ultrasound liver images. The statistical classifier uses multi texture vectors as input vectors and classifies ultrasound liver images for each multi texture vector by the Bayes decision rule. Then the decision of the liver disease is made by choosing the maximum value from the averages of a posteriori probability for each multi texture vector In our simulation, we obtained higtler correct ratio than that of other methods using single feature vector, for the test set the correct ratio is 94% in the normal liver, 84% in the fat liver and 86% in the cirrhosis liver.

This paper proposes an algorithm using vibration signals and texture analysis for mechanical fault diagnosis of an induction motor. We analyze characteristics of contrast and pattern of an image converted from vibration signal and extract three texture features using gray-level co-occurrence model(GLCM). Then, the extracted features are used as inputs of a multi-level support vector machine(MLSVM) which utilizes the radial basis function(RBF) kernel function to classify each fault type. In addition, we evaluate the classification performance with varying the parameter from 0.3 to 1.0 for the RBF kernel function of MLSVM, and the proposed algorithm achieved 100% classification accuracy with the parameter of the RBF from 0.3 to 1.0. Moreover, the proposed algorithm achieved about 98% classification accuracy with 15dB and 20dB noise inserted vibration signals.

Texture is one of the most useful features in classifying and segmenting images. The LBP-based approach previously presented in the literature has been successful in many applications. However, it's theoretical foundation is based only on the difference of pixel values, and consequently it has a number of drawbacks like it performs poorly for the images corrupted with noise, and especially it cannot be used as a multiscale texture descriptor due to the exploding increase of feature vector dimension with increase of the number of neighbor pixels. In this paper, we present a method to address these drawbacks of LBP-based approach. More specifically, our approach quantizes the range of pixels values and construct a 3D histogram which captures the correlative information of pixels. This histogram is used as a texture feature. Several tests with texture images show that the proposed method outperforms the LBP-based approach in the problem of texture classification.

The objective of this study was to identify the texture-related components of woven fabrics and to develop a multidimensional perceptual structure map to represent the tactile textures. Eighty subjects in clothing and tektite industries were selected for multivariate data on each fabric of 30 using the questionnaire with 9 pointed semantic differential scales of 20 texture-related adjectives. Data were analyzed by factor analysis, hierarchical cluster analysis, and multidimensional scaling(MDS) using SPSS statistical package. The results showed that the five factors were selected and composed of density/warmth-coolness, stiffness, extensibility, drapeability, and surface/slipperiness. As a result of hierarchical cluster analysis, 30 fabrics were grouped by four clusters; each cluster was named with density/warmth-coolness, surface/slipperiness, stiffness, and extensibility, respectively. By MDS, three dimensions of tactile texture were obtained and a 3-dimensional perceptual structure map was suggested. The three dimensions were named as surface/slipperiness, extensibility, and stiffness. We proposed a positioning perceptual map of fabrics related to texture naming system(TNS). To classify the textural features of the woven fabrics, hierarchical cluster analysis containing all the data variations, even though it includes the errors, may be more desirable than texture-related multidimensional data analysis based on factor loading values in respect of the effective variables reduction without losing the critical variations.
In North Korea, forests were intensively degraded by forest land reclamation for food production and firewood collection since the mid-1970s. These degraded forests have to be certainly recovered for economic support, environmental protection and disaster prevention. In order to provide detailed land cover information of forest recovery project (A/R CDM), this study was focused to develop an improved classification method for degraded forest using 2.5m SPOT-5 pan-sharpened image. The degraded forest of North Korea shows various different types of texture. This study used GLCM texture bands of segmented image with spectral bands during forest cover classification. When scale factor 40/shape factor 0.3 was used as a parameter set to generate segment image, segment image was generated on suitable segment scale that could classify types of degraded forest. Forest land cover types were classified with an optimum band combination of Band1, Band2, band3, GLCM dissimilarity (band2), GLCM homogeneity (band2) and GLCM standard deviation (band3). Segment-based classification method using spectral bands and texture bands reached an 80.4% overall accuracy, but the method using only spectral bands yielded an 70.3% overall accuracy. As using spectral and texture bands, a classification accuracy of stocked forest and unstocked forest showed an increase of 23~25%. In this research, SPOT-5 pan-sharpened high-resolution satellite image could provide a very useful information for classifying the forest cover of North Korea in which field data collection was not available for ground truth data and verification directly. And segment-based classification method using texture information improved classification accuracy of degraded forest.

This paper presents a local binary pattern(LBP) for effectively classifying textures, which is based on the multidimensional intensity difference between the adjacent pixels in the block image. The intensity difference by considering the a extent of 4 directional changes(verticality, horizontality, diagonality, inverse diagonality) in brightness between the adjacent pixels is applied to reduce the computation load as a results of decreasing the levels of histogram for classifying textures of image. And the binary patterns that is represented by the relevant intensities within a block image, is also used to effectively classify the textures by accurately reflecting the local attributes. The proposed method has been applied to classify 24 block images from USC Texture Mosaic #2 of 128*128 pixels gray image. The block images are different in size and texture. The experimental results show that the proposed method has a speedy classification and makes a free size block images classify possible. In particular, the proposed method gives better results than the conventional LBP by increasing the range of histogram level reduction as the block size becomes larger.
A new approach to texture classification for quantitative ultrasound liver diagnosis using run difference matrix was developed. The run difference matrix comprised the gray level difference along with a distances. From this run difference matrix, we defined several vectors and parameters such as DOD, DGD, DAD vector, SHP, SMO, SMG, LDE, LDEL etc. Each parameter values calculated in fatty, cirrhotic, normal and chronic hepatitic liver images were plotted in a plane and we found that RDM method was more sensitive to small structural changes than the conventional run length method and showed improved classification ability between the diseases.

Breast ultrasonic reading is critical as a primary screening test for the early diagnosis of breast cancer. However, breast ultrasound examinations show significant differences in diagnosis based on the difference in image quality according to the ultrasonic equipment, experience, and proficiency of the examiner. Accordingly, studies are being actively conducted to analyze the texture characteristics of normal breast tissue, positive tumors, and malignant tumors using breast ultrasonography and to use them for computer-assisted diagnosis. In this study, breast ultrasonography was conducted to select 247 ultrasound images of 71 normal breast tissues, 87 fibroadenomas among benign tumors, and 89 malignant tumors. The selected images were calculated using a statistical method with 21 feature parameters extracted using the gray level co-occurrence matrix algorithm, and classified as normal breast tissue, benign tumor, and malignancy. In addition, we proposed five feature parameters that are available for computer-aided diagnosis of breast cancer classification. The average classification rate for normal breast tissue, benign tumors, and malignant tumors, using this feature parameter, was 82.8%.

Support vector machines is a powerful learning algorithm and attempt to separate belonging to two given sets in N-dimensional real space by a nonlinear surface, often only implicitly dened by a kernel function. We described breast tissue images analyses using texture features from Haar wavelet transformed images to classify breast lesion of ductal organ Benign, DCIS and CA. The approach for creating a classifier is composed of 2 steps: feature extraction and classification. Therefore, in the feature extraction step, we extracted texture features from wavelet transformed images with $10{\times}$ magnification. In the classification step, we created four classifiers from each image of extracted features using SVM(Support Vector Machines). In this study, we conclude that the best classifier in histological sections of breast tissue in the texture features from second-level wavelet transformed images used in Polynomial function.
