Decolourization potential of white rot fungal organism, coriolus versicolor, was investigated in a batch reactor, for textile dye industry wastewater. The influence of process parameters like pH, temperature, agitation speed and dye wastewater concentration on the decolourization of textile dye wastewater was examined by using Response surface methodology (RSM). The maximum decolourization was attained at: pH- 6.8, temperature - $27.9^{\circ}C$, agitation speed - 160 rpm and dye wastewater concentration - 1:2. From the analysis of variance (ANOVA) results it was found that, the linear effect of agitation speed and dye wastewater concentration were significant for the decolourization of textile dye wastewater. At these optimized condition, the maximum decolourization and chemical oxygen demand (COD) reduction was found to be 64.4% and 79.8% respectively. Various external carbon sources were tried to enhance the decolourization of textile dye wastewater. It was observed that the addition of carbon source enhances the decolourization of textile dye wastewater. Kinetics of textile dye degradation process was studied by first order and diffusional model. From the results it was found that the degradation follows first order model with $R^2$ value of 0.9430.
The current processer of the textile wastewater treatment are mostly consisted of a combination of a physico-chemical and a biological treatment. The overall efficiency of these processes is, however, assessed to be fairly low. It is even worse during the summer season when temperature of the wastewater rises above 40$\circ $C. Therefore, a feasible process of the textile wastewater treatment which can work efficiently at higher temperatures was investigated in this work. We used a bench scale reactor consisted of one 4 liter anaerobic and one 8 liter aerobic tank, and the thermophilic symbiotic PVA degraders, Pasteruella hemolytica KMG1 and Pseudomonas sp. KMG6 that had been isolated in our laboratory. In the preliminary flask experiments, we observed that the thermophilic symbiotic PVA degraders could not grow in the wastewater substrate. Then, we isolated the mutant strains by acclimating the KMG1and KMG6 strains to the wastewater medium. The mutant symbionts (KMG1-1 and KMG6-1) were isolated through 6 times successive transfers into the fresh wastewater medium after 5 days culture for each. The mutant strains obtained grew well in the mixed medium composed of 75% wastewater and 25% synthetic medium, and supplemented with 0.5% PVA as a sole carbon source. During the culture for 14 days at pH 7.0 and 40$\CIRC $C, the bacteria assimilated about 89% of the added PVA. The symbionts degraded equally well all the PVA substrates of different molecular weight (nd=500~30000). In contrast to the flask experiments, in the reactor system the mutant strains showed very low levels of the PVA and COD removal rates. However, the new reactor system with an additional aerobic tank attained 82% removal rate of COD, 94% of PVA degradation and 71% of color index under the conditions of 5% inoculm on the tank 2, incubation temperature of 40$\circ $C, dissolved oxygen level of 2~3 mg/l and retention time of 30 hours. This result ensures that the process described above could be an efficient and feasible treatment for the PVA contained textile wastewater at higher temperatures.
Textile wastewater from the Pusan Dyeing Industrial Complex (PDIC) was treated utilizing a two-stage continuous system, composed of an upflow anaerobic sludge blanket reactor and an activated Sludge reactor. The effects of color and organic leading rates were studied by varying the hydraulic retention time and influent glucose concentration. The maximum color load to Satisfy the legal discharge limit of color intensity in Korea (400 ADMI, unit of the American Dye Manufacturers Institute) was estimated to be 2,700 $ADMI{\cdot}L^{-1}\;day^{-1}$. This study Indicates that the two-stage anaerobic/aerobic reaction system is potentially useful in the treatment of textile wastewater.
An anaerobic sludge-aerobic fixed-bed biofilm(packed with ceramic support carrier of 1 inch size) reactor system was built up to treat textile wastewater. The efficiency of reactor system was examined by determining the effects of textile wastewater ratio(from 25% to 100% at HRT 24 h). The influent range of SCOD concentration and color were 1,036~1,357 mg/L, and 1,487~1,853 degree, respectively. When textile wastewater ratio was 100% and hydraulic retention time was 24 hours, SCOD removal efficiency by the anaerobic stage were 39.2% 100% and hydraulic retention time was 24 hours, SCOD removal efficiency by the anaerobic stage were 39.2% and the removal efficiency of the whole system were 75.8%. Color removal efficiency by the anaerobic stage were 45.4%(soluble color), and the removal efficiency of the whole system were 70.2%. In the A/A reactor system, the aerobic stage played an important role in removing both color and COD as well as anaerobic stage.

Electrochemical and photochemical techniques have been proved to be effective for the removal of organic pollutants in textile wastewater. The present study deals with degradation of synthetic textile effluents containing reactive dyes and assisting chemicals, using electro oxidation and photo catalytic treatment. The influence of various operating parameters such as dye concentration, current density, supporting electrolyte concentration and lamp intensity on TOC removal has been determined. From the present investigation it has been observed that nearly 70% of TOC removal has been recorded for electrooxidation treatment with current density 5 mA/$dm^2$, supporting electrolyte concentration of 3 g/L and in photocatalytic treatment with 250 V as optimum lamp intensity nearly 67% of TOC removal was observed. The result indicates that electro oxidation treatment is more efficient than photocatalytic treatment for dye degradation.
Reuse of wastewater become an important consideration to solve the environmental pollution problems in recent industriallzation and urbanization. Especially, he characteristic of dyeing process is subject to use much water and thus has serious problems for removal of color and organic pollutants in their wastewater. This report is divided into two main parts : The purpose of the first part was to determine if alkaline wastewater discharged from textile dyeing operation factory could be flocculated directly by Fenton oxidation method. This study was conducted to investigate Fenton reagent dose and reaction condition of Fenton method as pretreatment for dyeing wastewater in K dyeing industry were investigated. In the second part of this research, to treat dyeing wastewater it was found that the most effective way is to use ultrafiltation and reverse osmosis at the conditions of the pH 7.0~8.0 and operating pressure of $2.5~35kg_f/cm^2$. This paper is mainly dealt with the application on reuse system of dyeing wastewater treatment using ultrafiltration and reverse osmosis membranes. The results showed that dyeing wastewater could be reused by chemical, filter and membrane sequential treatment process.
Submerged Membrane bioreactor (SMBR) is one of the last techniques that allow a high quality of treated industrial effluents by coupling biological treatment and membrane separation. Thus, this research was an effort to evaluate performance of a SMBR treating a model textile wastewater (MTWW). Different SMBR operating parameters like mixed liquor suspended solids (MLSS) and Dissolved oxygen concentration, hydraulic retention time (HRT), and nutrients addition (N and P) have been investigated. MTWW (influent to the SMBR) was generated using the reactive azo-dye, Novacron blue FNG (100mg/L feed concentration). Results of MTWW treatment using SMBR under optimal operating conditions (MLSS, 4.2-13.3g/L; HRT, 4 days; pH, 6.9-7.2; conductivity, 400-900 μS/cm and temperature, 19.4-22.2 ℃) showed that COD and blue colour treatment performances are between 94-98% and 30-80%, respectively. It is concluded that SMBR can be used in large scale textile wastewater treatment plants to improve effluent quality in order to meet effluent discharge standards.
Textile factories are one of the industries which its wastewater treatment is a challenging issue, especially in developing countries and a conventional treatment cannot treat all its pollutants properly. Using chemical coagulants is a technique for physical and chemical primary treatment of the wastewater. We applied jar test for selection of suitable coagulant among the five coagulants including alum, calcium hydroxide, ferrous sulfate, ferrous chloride and barium chloride for the effluent of wastewater in Mazandran textile factory located in Mazandran Province, Iran. In addition, jar test, we also used analytic hierarchy process (AHP) method considering criteria which included coagulation cost, sensitivity to pH change, the amount of sludge generation and side effects for coagulation. The results of the jar test indicated that calcium hydroxide was proper among the coagulants which it removed 92.9% total suspended solid (TSS), 70% dye and 30% chemical oxygen demand. The AHP analysis presented that calcium hydroxide is more suitable than other coagulants considering five criteria.
This research studied the characteristics and applicability of electrocoagulation using aluminium electrode for the color and COD removal in textile wastewater. Electrocoagulation reactor used two different electrode, Fe and Al, since in the general chemical wastewater treatment, aluminium and ferrous salts were used as coagulants. Aluminium electrode showed higher removal efficiency of color and COD than ferrous electrode did. The COD and color removal efficiency improved at the 0.192A/$dm^2$ current density. Thus, the electrocoagulation process with bipolar aluminium electrode showed better efficiency in the decolorization and COD removal rate of textile wastewater effluent than custom coagulants did.
For the first time in Bangladesh, a bench scale membrane bioreactor (MBR) unit was tested in treating a textile wastewater in the industry premises of EOS Textile Mills LTD, Dhaka for three months. The performance of the unit was compared with that of the conventional activated sludge treatment plant, which is in operation in the same premises. The COD and BOD removal efficiency of the MBR unit reached to around 90% and 80% respectively in 20 days whereas the removal efficiency of the conventional treatment plant was as low as 40-50% and 38-40% respectively. The outlet COD and the BOD level for the MBR unit remained stable in spite of the fluctuation in the feed value, while the conventional effluent treatment plant (ETP) failed to keep any stabilized level. The performance of the MBR unit was much superior to that of the functional ETP and the water treated by the MBR system can meet disposal standard.
