  • With the expansion of the vegan fashion industry and increasing consumer interest in vegan goods, the first inaugural Vegan Fashion Week was held in LA in 2019. However, there are no studies examining the sustainability of vegan fashion brands; this study underlines the necessity to close this research gap. This study aimed to ascertain how these issues are handled by vegan fashion brands. Using the "sustainable criterion of fashion brands," we investigated the companies that participated in Vegan Fashion Week. This study analyzed the featured brands, conducted case studies, and examined each brand's sustainability strategies and procedures. Press releases, news articles, official websites, and web magazines served as raw data for this study. Analyses of individual networks were performed and brands' approaches to veganism and sustainability were evaluated; eco-friendly material, fair trade, local production, and vegan inspiration were among these techniques. Every brand had put at least one of these requirements into practice for their business, with vegan inspiration being the most popular approach. Additionally, it was discovered that vegan fashion brands deliberately employed vegan messaging that aligns with their corporate values. After its initial launch, VFW continues to advance the discourse on vegan fashion both within the industry and with the general public. The study's implications include the analysis of vegan fashion brands' ethical manufacturing, environmental practices, and overall sustainability.

  • The purpose of this study is to explore and compare the regional characteristics of textile industries and corresponding education systems in Korea and Italy. The Italian textile industry is well known for its continuous development of high quality textile fabrics and aesthetic fashion design. One of contributing factors for the success of Italian textile industry is its regional specialization of the industry and corresponding education systems. In particular, the regional education systems in Italy are designed to educate and supply labors necessary to the development of the regional textile industries. According to the study, this characteristic is well shown in their curriculum which emphasizes the practicality and corporation with the industry. In contrast, the Korean education system for the textile industry ignores the regional specialization and its curriculum is designed, in large part, to produce textile designers. This causes difficulties in meeting the various demands from the industry such as the textile planning, textile production, and textile marketing and sales. To solve the problems, we must encourage the industrial-educational corporation to promote the practicality of the textile education system and make diversification and specialization of the curriculum of textile education to cultivate men of talent, such as merchandisers, fashion coordinators, converters, stylists, and displayer, necessary to the development of the Korean textile industry.

  • This study focuses on 'texture' as one of the most important fashion and textile design elements; in addition, it proposes various applications of it. Surface texture is indispensable in fashion and textile design that also factors heavily into innovative creations. Along with technological advances in the fashion industry, surface texture has derived many new and attractive features that provide more opportunities for designers to show various design concepts. Rather than the surface quality of fabrics, surface texture in fashion design creates its identity through a manipulation of materials- an application that tends to be primarily for visual effects without being restricted to decorative purposes. The status and significance of surface texture in various creative fields is explored and the evolution of surface texture is traced by analyzing a number of fashion design cases with representative surface textures. The latest feature of surface texture in fashion and textile design is identified to establish a new classification of surface texture with five groups and technical suggestions. This study provides a theoretical basis for this field of study and a new framework that can be employed in the development of surface textures that use innovative techniques as well as the future application of newly-developed textures.
