Locating text data in images automatically has been a challenging task. In this approach, we build a three stage system for text detection purpose. This system utilizes tensor voting and Completed Local Binary Pattern (CLBP) to classify text and non-text regions. While tensor voting generates the text line information, which is very useful for localizing candidate text regions, the Nearest Neighbor classifier trained on discriminative features obtained by the CLBP-based operator is used to refine the results. The whole algorithm is implemented in MATLAB and applied to all images of ICDAR 2011 Robust Reading Competition data set. Experiments show the promising performance of this method.

Natural language processing (NLP) is utilized to understand a natural text. Text analysis systems use natural language algorithms to find the meaning of large amounts of text. Text classification represents a basic task of NLP with a wide range of applications such as topic labeling, sentiment analysis, spam detection, and intent detection. The algorithm can transform user's unstructured thoughts into more structured data. In this work, a text classifier has been developed that uses academic admission and registration texts as input, analyzes its content, and then automatically assigns relevant tags such as admission, graduate school, and registration. In this work, the well-known algorithms support vector machine SVM and K-nearest neighbor (kNN) algorithms are used to develop the above-mentioned classifier. The obtained results showed that the SVM classifier outperformed the kNN classifier with an overall accuracy of 98.9%. in addition, the mean absolute error of SVM was 0.0064 while it was 0.0098 for kNN classifier. Based on the obtained results, the SVM is used to implement the academic text classification in this work.

Core citation recognition is to identify influential ones among the prior articles that a scholarly article cite. Previous approaches have employed citing-text occurrence information, textual similarities between citing and cited article, etc. This study proposes a term-based approach to core citation recognition, which exploits the importance of individual terms appearing in in-text citation to calculate influence-strength for each cited article. Term importance is computed using various frequency information such as term frequency(tf) in in-text citation, tf in the citing article, inverse sentence frequency in the citing article, inverse document frequency in a collection of articles. Experiments using a previous test set consisting of computational linguistics articles show that the term-based approach performs comparably with the previous approaches. The proposed technique could be easily extended by employing other term units such as n-grams and phrases, or by using new term-importance formulae.

Given two collections of objects that carry both spatial and textual information in the form of tags, a $\text\underline{S}patio$-$\text\underline{T}extual$-based object $\text\underline{S}imilarity$$\text\underline{JOIN}$ (ST-SJOIN) retrieves the pairs of objects that are textually similar and spatially close. In this paper, we have proposed a block index-based approach called BIST-JOIN to facilitate the efficient ST-SJOIN processing. In this approach, a dual-feature distance plane (DFDP) is first partitioned into some blocks based on four segmentation schemes, and the ST-SJOIN is then transformed into searching the object pairs falling in some affected blocks in the DFDP. Extensive experiments on real and synthetic datasets demonstrate that our proposed join method outperforms the state-of-the-art solutions.
This paper addresses computing of similarity among papers using text-based measures. First, we analyze the accuracy of the similarities computed using different parts of a paper, and propose a method of Keyword-Extension, which is very useful when text information is incomplete. Via a series of experiments, we verify the effectiveness of Keyword-Extension.
Current text mining techniques suffer from the problem that the conventional text representation models cannot express the semantic or conceptual information for the textual documents written with natural languages. The conventional text models represent the textual documents as bag of words, which include vector space model, Boolean model, statistical model, and tensor space model. These models express documents only with the term literals for indexing and the frequency-based weights for their corresponding terms; that is, they ignore semantical information, sequential order information, and structural information of terms. Most of the text mining techniques have been developed assuming that the given documents are represented as 'bag-of-words' based text models. However, currently, confronting the big data era, a new paradigm of text representation model is required which can analyse huge amounts of textual documents more precisely. Our text model regards the 'concept' as an independent space equated with the 'term' and 'document' spaces used in the vector space model, and it expresses the relatedness among the three spaces. To develop the concept space, we use Wikipedia data, each of which defines a single concept. Consequently, a document collection is represented as a 3-order tensor with semantic information, and then the proposed model is called text cuboid model in our paper. Through experiments using the popular 20NewsGroup document corpus, we prove the superiority of the proposed text model in terms of document clustering and concept clustering.

Innovation and rapid increased functionality in user friendly smartphones has encouraged shutterbugs to have picturesque image macros while in work environment or during travel. Formal signboards are placed with marketing objectives and are enriched with text for attracting people. Extracting and recognition of the text from natural images is an emerging research issue and needs consideration. When compared to conventional optical character recognition (OCR), the complex background, implicit noise, lighting, and orientation of these scenic text photos make this problem more difficult. Arabic language text scene extraction and recognition adds a number of complications and difficulties. The method described in this paper uses a two-phase methodology to extract Arabic text and word boundaries awareness from scenic images with varying text orientations. The first stage uses a convolution autoencoder, and the second uses Arabic Character Segmentation (ACS), which is followed by traditional two-layer neural networks for recognition. This study presents the way that how can an Arabic training and synthetic dataset be created for exemplify the superimposed text in different scene images. For this purpose a dataset of size 10K of cropped images has been created in the detection phase wherein Arabic text was found and 127k Arabic character dataset for the recognition phase. The phase-1 labels were generated from an Arabic corpus of quotes and sentences, which consists of 15kquotes and sentences. This study ensures that Arabic Word Awareness Region Detection (AWARD) approach with high flexibility in identifying complex Arabic text scene images, such as texts that are arbitrarily oriented, curved, or deformed, is used to detect these texts. Our research after experimentations shows that the system has a 91.8% word segmentation accuracy and a 94.2% character recognition accuracy. We believe in the future that the researchers will excel in the field of image processing while treating text images to improve or reduce noise by processing scene images in any language by enhancing the functionality of VGG-16 based model using Neural Networks.

The transmission of confidential data using cover media is called steganography. The three requirements of any effective steganography system are high embedding capacity, security, and imperceptibility. The text file's structure, which makes syntax and grammar more visually obvious than in other media, contributes to its poor imperceptibility. Text steganography is regarded as the most challenging carrier to hide secret data because of its insufficient redundant data compared to other digital objects. Unicode characters, especially non-printing or invisible, are employed for hiding data by mapping a specific amount of secret data bits in each character and inserting the character into cover text spaces. These characters are known with limited spaces to embed secret data. Current studies that used Unicode characters in text steganography focused on increasing the data hiding capacity with insufficient redundant data in a text file. A sequential embedding pattern is often selected and included in all available positions in the cover text. This embedding pattern negatively affects the text steganography system's imperceptibility and security. Thus, this study attempts to solve these limitations using the Part-of-speech (POS) tagging technique combined with the randomization concept in data hiding. Combining these two techniques allows inserting the Unicode characters in randomized patterns with specific positions in the cover text to increase data hiding capacity with minimum effects on imperceptibility and security. Format-preserving encryption (FPE) is also used to encrypt a secret message without changing its size before the embedding processes. By comparing the proposed technique to already existing ones, the results demonstrate that it fulfils the cover file's capacity, imperceptibility, and security requirements.

Healthcare professionals have edited many health questions (HQs) and their answers for healthcare consumers on the Internet. The HQs provide both readable and reliable health information, and hence retrieval of those HQs that are relevant to a given question is essential for health education and promotion through the Internet. However, retrieval of relevant HQs needs to be based on the recognition of the intention of each HQ, which is difficult to be done by predefining syntactic and semantic rules. We thus model the intention recognition problem as a text classification problem, and develop two techniques to improve a learning-based text classifier for the problem. The two techniques improve the classifier by location-based and area-based feature weightings, respectively. Experimental results show that, the two techniques can work together to significantly improve a Support Vector Machine classifier in both the recognition of HQ intentions and the retrieval of relevant HQs.

We present a hybrid approach of texture-based method and connected component (CC)-based method for text extraction in complex images. Two primary methods, which are mainly utilized in this area, are sequentially merged for compensating for their weak points. An automatically constructed MLP-based texture classifier can increase recall rates for complex images with small amount of user intervention and without explicit feature extraction. CC-based filtering based on the shape information using NMF enhances the precision rate without affecting overall performance. As a result, a combination of texture and CC-based methods leads to not only robust but also efficient text extraction. We also enhance the processing speed by adopting appropriate region marking methods for each input image category.
