  • Consolidants were extended use for conservation of weathered stone heritage. Epoxy, acryl, isocyanate, and alkoxysilane consolidants are most commonly used products. Consolidant of 1T1G_5 wt 0.08 % that consists of T (TEOS: Tetraethyl Orthosilicate) and G (GPTMS: 3-Glycidoxy propyl trimethoxy silane) were used this study. A shore hardness values show increasing after treated with consolidant in granite. Surface brightness after treated with consolidant are changing slightly dark but turns the original color over time. Ultra-sonic velocity is increased after treated with consolidant but slightly reduced over time to remain constant. It has the advantage of being effective after treated with consolidant in granite and efficiency of consolidation increase with slow velocity before treated with consolidant.

  • Nanoscale silica powder was synthesized from $SiO_2$ precursor solution using Tetraethyl Orthosilicate (TEOS) by polyacrylamide gel method. This process was of simplicity and provided ultrafine powders at relatively low calcination temperatures because polymer network could inhibit aggregation of $SiO_2$ powder. The particle size of Si02 powder was affected by the concentration of ammonium persulphate and N, N'-methylene-bis-acrylamide(BIS) in the gel precursor. The particle size decreased with increasing ammonium persulphate and was mininum size of 10 nm at 0.01 M. Also, the size decreased with increasing BIS concentration and was 5 nm at its concentration of 0.05 M.

  • Photonic crystals (PCs) are highly ordered porous materials which have been much attention because of its potential for controlling the light sauces. There are many methods for synthesizing this kind of materials among them we chose the supercritical deposition. With this method the reactants can easily infiltrate into the complex structure. In this paper, supercritical carbon dioxide ($scCO_2$) was used as a reaction medium, which is known as a sustainable solvent due to its nontoxic and noninflammable characteristics. We coated the colloidal template with metal alkoxide by using $scCO_2$ and then obtained macro-porous inverse opals. The reaction was carried out at $40^{\circ}C$ and 80 bar. We synthesized two different inverse opals which called silica and titania inverse opals by use of tetraethyl orthosilicate (TEOS) and titanium isopropoxide (TTIP) as a precursor, respectively.

  • In this study, hollow silica microspheres (HSM) of various sizes formed according to the concentration of surfactants using water glass as a precursor, which is advantageous for commercialization due to its lower unit cost compared to conventional silicon alkoxide (tetraethyl orthosilicate, TEOS) was synthesized. The physical properties of the silica hollow microspheres according to the concentration of surfactant were analyzed using Fourier transform infrared, contact angle measurement, Brunauer-Emmett-Teller and Barrett-Joyner-Halenda analyzers and field emission scanning electron microscopy. When porous water glass-based hollow silica spheres were prepared by adding a surfactant at an appropriate concentration, it was confirmed that excellent hollow silica spheres were formed with a specific surface area of 169 m2/g, an average particle size of 25.3 ㎛, and a standard deviation of 6.25.

  • ZnSe quantum dots (QDs) were prepared by employing water-containing Dioctyl sodium sulfosuccinate (AOT) reversed micelles (microemulsions) and the silica-encapsulated ZnSe QDs were obtained by a direct injection of tetraethyl orthosilicate (TEOS) into the microemulsion system. When the QDs were coated by silica, well-defined spherical shapes were formed and the average size of the QDs was near 7 nm. In addition, the photoluminescence (PL) efficiency of the QDs was reduced from 8.0 to 1.1% as they were encapsulated by silica. However, the solid layers of the silica-encapsulated ZnSe QDs on gold surfaces showed the excellent photostability. In particular, they are cadmium free and thus, less toxic. Moreover, the present method does not require a hot reaction temperature or extremely toxic H2Se gas as a Se precursor. Accordingly, the method can be a safer and more economical process for producing silica-encapsulated ZnSe QDs, which may be a potential media for biosensors.

  • This work describes the preparation of functionalized magnetic nanoparticles(MNPs) and their bioapplication to human DNA separation. Silica coated MNPs were prepared by changing the volume ratio of tetraethyl orthosilicate(TEOS) for controlled coating thickness on the original nanoparticle of MNPs. The sol-gel process in silica coating on MNPs surface was adapted for relatively mild reaction condition, low-cost, and surfactant-free. And then amino functionalized magnetic nanoparticles were synthesized using amine groups as surface modifiers. The result of adsorption efficiency for human DNA with amino-functionalized silica coated MNPs was calculated as a function of the number of amine groups.

  • Silicon carbide (SiC) has recently drawn an enormous industrial interest because of its useful mechanical properties such as thermal resistance, abrasion resistance and thermal conductivity at high temperature. RF Thermal plasma (PL-35 Induction Plasma, Tekna CO., Canada) has been utilized for synthesis of high purity SiC powder from cheap inorganic solution (Tetraethyl Orthosilicate, TEOS). It is found that the powders by thermal plasma consist of SiC with free carbon and amorphous silica ($SiO_2$) and, by thermal treatment and HF treatment, the impurities are driven off resulting high purity SiC nano-powder. The synthesized SiC powder lies below 30 nm and its properties such microstructure, phase composition, specific surface area and free carbon content have been characterized by X-ay diffraction (XRD), field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), thermogravimetric (TG) and Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET).

  • Films of TiO$_2$/SiO$_2$ were deposited on the inner surface of the porous glass support tubes by decomposition of tetraisopropyl titanate (TIPT) and tetraethyl orthosilicate (TEOS) at atmospheric pressure. Dense and hydrogen -permselective membranes were formed at 400-600$\^{C}$. The permeation rates of H$_2$ through the membrane at 600$\^{C}$ were 0.2-0.4 ㎤(STP)/min-㎠ atm and H$_2$:N$_2$permeation ratios were above 1000. The permeation properties of the membranes were investigated at various deposition temperatures and TIPT/TEOS concentrations. Decomposition of TIPT alone at temperatures above 400$\^{C}$ produced porous crystalline TiO$_2$ films and they were not H7-selective. Decomposition of TEOS produced H$_2$-permeable SiO$_2$ films at 400-600$\^{C}$ but film deposition rate was very low. Addition of TIFT to the TEOS stream significantly accelerated the deposition rate and produced highly H$_2$-selective films. Increasing the TIPT/TEOS concentration ratio increased the deposition rate. The TiO$_2$/SiO$_2$ membranes formed at 600 $\^{C}$ have the permeation properties comparable to those of SiO$_2$ membranes produced from TEOS.

  • Hydrophilic and hydrophobic nanosilica and tetraethyl orthosilicate (TEOS) as a coupling agent was used to form a coarse spike structure as well as an excellent reactive hydroxyl groups on the glass surface. Then, a second treatment was carried out using a trichloro-(1H,1H,2H,2H)perfluorooctylsilane(TPFOS) solution for ultimate water repellent glass surface formation. The formation of hydrophobic coating layer on glass surface using silica aerosol, which is hydrophobic nanosilica, was not able to form a durable hydrophobic coating layer due to the absence of reactive -OH groups on the surface of nanosilica. On the other hand, a glass surface was first coated with a coating liquid prepared with hydrophilic hydroxyl group-containing nanosilica and hydrolyzed TEOS, and then coated with a TPFOS solution to introduce a hydrophobic surface on glass having a water contact angle of $150^{\circ}$ or more. The sliding angle of the coated glass was less than $1^{\circ}$, which meant the surface had a super water-repellent property. In addition, as the content of hydrophilic nanosilica increased, the optical transmittance decreased and the optical transmittance also decreased after 2nd coating with the TPFOS solution. The super-hydrophobic property of the coated glass was remained up to 50 times of rubbing durability test, but only hydrophobic property was shown after 200 times of rubbing durability test. Conclusively, the optimal coating conditions was double 1st coatings with the HP3 coating solution having a hydrophilic nanosilica content of 0.3 g, and subsequent 2nd coating with the TPFOS solution. It is believed that the coating solution thus prepared can be used as a surface treatment agent for solar cells where light transmittance is also important.
