Objectives : It was to translate three neck and spinal pain disability questionnaires - the Neck Disability Index (NDI), the Neck Pain and Disability Scale (NPDS), and the Functional Rating Index (FRI) - into Korean language, and evaluate the psychometric properties of Korean versions of questionnaires to achieve a good cross-cultural adaptation. Methods : Forty (23 males, 17 females) subjects aged from 15 to 64 years old, participated to examine test-retest reliability. One hundred and eighty (76 males, 104 females) subjects with a primary diagnosis of non-specific neck pain and 81 healthy volunteers were undertaken to examine internal consistemcy, discriminative validity and longitudinal construct validity. Versions of each questionnaire in idiomatic modern Korean were developed using a procedure proposed by Beaton et al. (2000). To assess reliability, the Intraclass Correlation Coefficient (ICC $_{(2,1)}$) was calculated. Internal consistency was evaluated by Cronbach's alpha. Discriminative validity was examined with independent-group t-tests. Responsiveness was tested by calculating the effect size and standardized response mean for each questionnaire and using Pearson' s r and the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve analysis. Results : Test-retest reliability ofthe translated versions of the three disability questionnaires was excellent (ICC $_{(2,1)$ = 0.86-0.90). High internal consistency was found in the three disability questionnaires (Cronbach's alpha ranged from ${\alpha}=0.88$ for the FRI to ${\alpha}=0.96$ for the NPDS and 0.82 for the Short Form McGill Pain Questionnaire(SFMPQ)). the VAS subscale of the SFMPQ was found to be the most responsive of the subscales (ES=1.44, SRM=1.37). The VAS was also the most responsive pain and disability index in internal responsiveness analysis, although disability indices showed marginally better responsiveness when compared with external standards. No floor or ceiling effects were observed. Conclusions : It is concluded that the questionnaires were successfully translated and exhibit acceptable measurement properties, and may suggest that they are suitable for use in clinical and research application.
Lane Keeping Assistance System (LKAS) is a kind of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) which are developed to automate/ adapt/ enhance vehicle systems for safety and better driving. The main system function of LKAS is to support the driver in keeping the vehicle within the current lane. LKAS acquires information on the position of the vehicle within the lane and, when required, sends commands to actuators to influence the lateral movement of the vehicle. Recently, the vehicles equipped with LKAS are commercially available in a few vehicle-advanced countries and the installation of LKAS increases for safety enhancement. The test procedures for LKAS evaluations are being discussed and developed in the international committees such as ISO (the International Organization for Standardization) and UNECE (United Nations Economic Commission for Europe). In Korea, the evaluations of LKAS for vehicle safety are planned to be introduced in 2016 KNCAP (Korean New Car Assessment Program). Therefore, the test procedures of LKAS suitable for domestic road and traffic conditions, which accommodate international standards, should be developed. In this paper, some bullet points of the test procedures for LKAS are discussed and proposed by extensive researches of previous documents and reports, which are released in public in regard to lateral test procedures including LKAS and Lane Departure Warning System (LDWS). And then, to evaluate the validity of the proposed test procedures, a series of experiments were conducted using commercially available two vehicles equipped with LKAS. Later, it can be helpful to make a draft considering domestic traffic situations for test procedures of LKAS.
Nowadays, emissions of a vehicle are been getting by testing on a chassis dynamometer and a test modes. Also, fuel efficiency is calculated by carbon-balance method that is applying the emissions(CO, THC and $CO_2$) to the fuel calculation formular. In Korea, before 2014, the formular did not include the fuel factors (density, net heat value and carbon weight fraction), but the constants were based on the fuel properties of 2000s. So, this formular did not consider a characteristic of test fuel property that was changed when progressing fuel efficiency test. The characteristics of test fuel property which was distributed in domestic have a difference of quality depending on production regions and oil-refining facilities. Because the fuel properties are variable value during refineries, crude oils and blending contents of a bio-fuel, vehicle fuel is changed for each test. Therefore, the fuel qualities need to apply for a fuel economy test. In this paper, changing patterns of a fuel properties were reviewed during history of fuel standards. Also, the appropriateness of the methods was discussed by calculating and comparing fuel economies with the fuel factors and the constants.
Currently, the pursuit of industrialization for rapid economic growth has led to serious environmental damage and related problems because of comtamination with chemicals. Over time, this contaminaion is getting worse and worse. Most developing countries have tried to pursue their economic development and growth, however without preparation for the control and disposal of hazardous wastes. Permitting hazardous waste to be abandoned and disposed in appropriately causes soil pollution, groundwater contamination, and surface water contamination, which are all extremely serious. In particular, when hazardous wastes which include toxic chemicals are distributed around the living environment even in small amounts, concentration can occur in the food chain through ecological systems, which can therefore affect human. Chromium(VI) has contaminated soil in China. We experimented to test the immobilization, chemical reduction, and soil washing methods in order to make our experiment efficient in the purification of soil contaminated with Chromium(VI), and to prove the theoretical models by experiments testing the field applications. The field experiment showed that result of experiment satisfied with the standards of China. The result of multi-stage continuous remediation reduce the Chromium(VI) concentration to 11.95 mg/kg and 14.83 mg/kg that were equivalent to 98% and 97% removal rates. This result implied we could apply multi-stage process of Chromium(VI) contaminated soil to meet the regulatory limit of Chromium(VI).
The Standards, Measurement and Testing Programme (SM&T-formerly BCR) extraction procedure was applied to fractionate Cr, Cu, Ni, Pb and Zn in 23 top soil samples into: (i) exchangeable phase; (ii) reducible phase; (iii) oxidisable(sulfides and organics bound) phase; and (iv) residual phase. Fractions of Cr and Ni were in the order of residual > oxidisable > reducible > exchangeable phase. The oxidisable phase was identified as dominant for Cu and Pb. Zn had the highest ratio of exchangeable phase in comparision to the other metals. The bioavailability and mobility were assessed to be the greatest for Zn, followed by a decreasing order of Pb, Cu, Ni and Cr. All metal average concentrations in topsoil samples was higher in industrial sites than in agricultural sites. Our results revealed higher concentrations in topsoil samples (0~15 cm) than in sub soils (15~30 cm, 30~60 cm) for most metals at six sites (No. 5, 6, 17, 19, 20, 23). The fractions of exchangeable, reducible ad oxidisable phases showed relatively high correlation with soil pH, Fe/Mn oxide concentrations and organic matter contents, respectively.
The introduction of genetically modified crops has raised concerns regarding safety issues over the insertion of foreign genes into plant genomes using recombinant DNA technology. Since 1991 in Japan, 29 foods and 6 food additives have been evaluated, based on the "Guideline for Safety Assessment", before these foods were marketed. The MHW, however, decided that safety assessment of such foods and food additives should be legally imposed. because soon such foods and food additives are expected to circulate globally and a new system for assessing safety of such foods and food additives at a pre-market stage is necessary, in order to avoid the distribution of any genetically modified foods that have had no safety assessment. The MHW published relevant announcements to amend existing regulations on 1 May 2000. "Standards for safety assessment of seed plant" is established based on a concept of substantial equivalence, and applicable to the products which are regarded as equivalent to the existing products used as foods and food additives. The characterization of the food products entails consideration of the molecular characterization. phenotypic and compositional characteristics, key nutrients and toxicants, and toxicity and allergenicity of the introduced proteins, and if there are indications of unintended effects of the modification, whether further safety testing (animal studies etc.) is needed should be considered. Safety and wholesomeness studies with whole foods should be care fully designed in order to avoid nutritional imbalances causing artifacts and uninterpretable results as was the case of Dr. Pusztaiis report. A case study of genetically modified soybeans (glyphosate-tolerant soybeans) on the immune system of rats and mice is shown. Chemical compositions were also compared with those of the non-GM soybeans. The studies failed to detect any differences in immuno-toxic activity.muno-toxic activity.
Background: Cancer in infants younger than one year of age represents a unique problem with distinct epidemiological, clinical and genetic characteristics compared with older age groups. No report is yet available from Iran regarding epidemiological and survival rate of cancers diagnosed in this age group. Materials and Methods: The population under study comprised of patients which were diagnosed and admitted to Ali-Asghar hospital between years 1996-2005. In total, 287 infants were included in the retrospective descriptive survey. Patient files were evaluated for age of patient at the time of diagnosis, sex, geographical residence, consanguinity of parents, histological diagnosis, site of cancer involvement, type of therapy, date of last follow-up and cause of death (if applicable). Results: The average age at the time of diagnosis was 7.2 months old. The most frequent malignancy was retinoblastoma (44%), followed by leukemia (19%) and neuroblastoma (10%), with five-year overall survival rates of 77.7%, 41% and 90%, respectively Parents of 40 infants (13.9%) had consanguinity relationships. Conclusions: Although we cannot make any conclusions regarding the incidence of infant cancer subtypes based on this study, survival rates for major types were similar to the developed countries, which signifies strict adherence to standards of care in Ali-Asghar hospital, the main infant cancer care centre in Iran. A Childhood Cancer Registry with high-resolution data collection and also advanced genetic testing is advocated for in-depth analysis of variation in incidence and survival.

No established method can be used to select effective antibiotics in antibiotic susceptibility tests for fish bacterial pathogens quickly and accurately. Here, we established the optimal conditions for determining the minimal inhibitory concentration (MIC) of major fish bacterial pathogens (Streptococcus spp., Edwardsiella tarda, Vibrio spp., Aeromonas spp., and Pseudomonas spp.) using the KRAQ1 and CAMPY2 panels. The MIC panel used 18 antibiotics of two types and we conducted experiments to establish the optimal culture medium and temperature for each species. The optimal conditions for incubating Streptococcus spp. were in cation-adjusted Mueller-Hinton broth with TES buffer (CAMHBT) at 28℃, using 5% lysed horse blood (LHB) as recommended by the Clinical Laboratory Standards Institute. For Vibrio spp., the optimal culture conditions were 28℃ in CAMHBT supplemented with 1% NaCl. The optimal conditions for culturing E. tarda, Aeromonas spp., and Pseudomonas spp. were in CAMHBT at 28℃.
The Korean Ministry of Environment started controlling indoor air quality (IAQ) in 2004 through the introduction of a law regulating the use of pollutant emitting building materials. The use of materials with formaldehyde emission levels above $1.25 mg/m^2{\cdot}h$ (JIS A 1901, small chamber method) has been prohibited. This level is equivalent to the $E_2$ grade ($>5.0mg/{\ell}$) of the desiccator method (JIS A 1460). However, the $20{\ell}$ small chamber method requires a 7-day test time to obtain the formaldehyde and volatile organic compound (VOC) emission results from solid building interior materials. As a approach to significantly reduce the test time, the field and laboratory emission cell (FLEC) has been proposed in Europe with a total test time less than one hour. This paper assesses the reproducibility of testing formaldehyde and TVOC emissions from wood-based composites such as medium density fiberboard (MDF), laminate flooring, and engineered flooring using three methods: desiccator, perforator and FLEC. According to the desiccator and perforator standards, the formaldehyde emission level of each flooring was ${\le}E_1$ grade. The formaldehyde emission of MDF was $3.48 mg/{\ell}$ by the desiccator method and 8.57 g/100 g by the perforator method. To determine the formaldehyde emission, the peak areas of each wood-based composite were calculated from aldehyde chromatograms obtained using the FLEC method. Formaldehyde, acetaldehyde, propionaldehyde, butyraldehyde and benzaldehyde were detected as aldehyde compounds. The experimental results indicated that MDF emitted chloroform, benzene, trichloroethylene, toluene, ethylbenzene, m,p-xy-lene, styrene, and o-xylene. MDF emitted significantly greater amounts of VOCs than the floorings did.
