In steel-concrete composite beams, to improve the cracking resistance of the concrete slab in the hogging moment region, a new type of connector in the interface, named uplift-restricted and slip-permitted screw-type (URSP-S) connector has been proposed. This paper focuses on the behavior of steel-concrete composite beams with URSP-S connectors. A total of three beam specimens including a simply supported beam with URSP-S connectors and two continuous composite beams with different connectors arrangements were designed and tested. More specifically, one continuous composite beam was equipped with URSP-S connectors in negative moment region and traditional shear studs in other regions. For comparison, the other one was designed with only traditional shear studs. The failure modes, crack evolution process, ultimate capacities, strain responses at different locations as well as the interface slip of the three tested specimens were measured and evaluated in-depth. Based on the experimental study, the research findings indicate that the larger slip deformation is allowed while using URSP-S connectors. Meanwhile, the tensile stress reduces and the cracking resistance of the concrete slab improves accordingly. In addition, the overall stiffness and strength of the composite beam become slightly lower than those of the composite beam using traditional shear studs. Moreover, the arrangement suggestion of URSP-S connectors in the composite beam is discussed in this paper for its practical design and application.
In order to know the shear performances of a bolted connection in reinforced glulam depending upon the combination of textile glass fiber, a tensile-type shear test was conducted. Textile glass fiber was used as a reinforcement, whose glass fiber arrangement was a plain weaving type or a diagonal cloth type. Reinforced glulam was made up of 5 plies and it was produced by inserting and laminating the plies between laminas depending upon a changed insert position and combination form of textile glass fiber. Tensile-type shear test specimens were a steel plate insert-type and joined at end-distance 7D with bolts whose diameter 12 or 16 mm. In textile glass fiber reinforced glulam, whose volume ratio was 1%, the yield shear strength of a 12 mm bolted connection increased by 10% when a test specimen had reinforced internal layers than when external layers were reinforced. As for textile glass fiber reinforced glulam, whose volume ratio was 2%, the yield shear strength of a 12 mm bolted connection increased significantly by about 22% compared to the bolted connection of non-reinforced glulam, and the yield shear strength of a 16 mm bolted connection was improved by about 20% compared to the bolted connection of non-reinforced glulam.

This experimental study was conducted to investigate beam strengthening of RC buildings with expended steel plate(ESP) in rural area. Nine test specimens were manufactured, whose variables were tensile steel ratio and the amount and the shape of expanded steel plate. The test results indicated that strengthened beams with ESP showed the improvement of flexural strength of 50%~90%, and the beam strengthening of U type was excellent for shear reinforcement as well as flexural reinforcement, more over, the honeycomb shape of ESP and anchor bolts for development of ESP were very effective.
In the first part of the paper, the crack growth process in rolling contact fatigue has been investigated on ring type plate specimens, in which crack growth is two dimensional and cracks are observed on the side surface of the specimens. The results have shown that cracks are initated from the contact surface in tensile mode in the direction approximately normal to the contact surface and after some short length of growth, shear mode growth occurs from the tip of the crack and it grows until the separation of the surface layer, namely flakung type failure, occurs. In the second part, mode U fatigue crack growth tests have been made by using an apparatus designed based on the concept that the subsurface fatigue crack growth in rolling contact fatigue is the mode U fatigue crack growth under the stress state where the tensile mode growth is suppressed by compression stress. The rest results have shown that the mode U fatigue crack growth occurs if the superposed compression stress is enough to suppress the tensile mode growth.
In this research, the degradation rate of physical properties of the Angouran pit bedrock (calc-schist) is first investigated under the specific numbers of freeze-thaw (F-T) cycles. Then, the durability of calc-schist specimens against the F-T cycle number (N) is examined considering the mechanical parameters, and using the decay function and half-time techniques. For this purpose, point load strength (IS(50)), second durability index (Id2), Brazilian tensile strength (BTS), and compressive (VP) and shear (VS) wave velocities of calc-schist specimens are measured after 0, 7, 15, 40, and 75 N. For comparing the degradation rate of mechanical properties of available rock types on the Angouran mine walls, these tests are also carried out on the limestone and amphibolite schist specimens beside the calc-schist. According to test results, the exponential regression models are developed between the mechanical parameters of rock specimen's and N variable. Also, the long-term durability of each rock type versus N is studied using the decay function and half-time techniques. Results indicated that the degradation rate differs for the above rock types in which amphibolite schist and calc-schist specimens have the highest and least resistance against the N, respectively. The obtained results from this study can play a key role in the optimal design of the mine's final walls.
In this paper, we present the result of an experimental investigation pertaining to the structural behavior of bolted lap-joint connection of pultruded fiber reinforced plastic structural shapes. In the experimental investigation, in order to find the mechanical property of the material, tension and shear tests on the pultruded structural composite specimen are conducted prior to the investigation on the structural behavior of bolted lap-joint connection of the member. Based on the result, number of bolts, type of placement and location of bolt are determined to be a test variable. Three different types of experimental specimens are prepared. Tensile load is applied through the center of the specimen with lap-joint connection and the structural behavior and failure mode of the test specimens with respect to the tensile load increment are investigated. As a result, it is found that most of the failure mode at the lap-joint connection is shear failure mode. Consequently, it is also found that the data obtained through this experimental program could be used for the structure connection design as a basis.

The objective of the study is to examine the characteristic correlations between reinforcing carbon fiber and interfacial adhesion agent since the interfacial adhesion strength between reinforcing carbon fiber and matrices is believed to be an essential element influencing the physical properties in carbon fiber reinforced cement composite using slurry method. The integrity of interfacial adhesion between reinforcing fiber and cement not only affects the quality of fiber reinforced cement composite but also influences to a large degree the physical properties of the cement composite when producing carbon fiber reinforced cement composite using slurry method. Having analyzed the physical properties 1.e., water content, tensile strength, flexural strength and flexural toughness of carbon fiber reinforced cement composite specimens, C-PAM(cation polyacrylamide) was determined to be an optimum interfacial adhesion agent. The study has also demonstrated that interfacial adhesion strength varies largely on the content and type of the reinforcing fiber. Judging from magnified view of the tensile shear cross-section using VMS(video microscope system), interfacial adhesion strength between reinforcing fiber and matrices is affected by the type of interfacial adhesion agent. According to the result of the experiments, C-PAM was determined to be an ideal interfacial adhesion agent when using carbon fiber in producing carbon fiber reinforced cement composite with the optimum content of carbon fiber being established.

This paper presents experimental and analytical results on flexural behavior of flexural members made of SIFCON. Twelve SIFCON beams were subjected to bending tests and their flexural behavior was evaluated. Experimental variables included steel fiber type, presence of tensile reinforcement, and height of section. The specimens using Type-B steel fibers, which had better pullout resistance than Type-A steel fibers, showed flexural failure behavior without shear failure. The aspect ratio of steel fiber had a great influence on the behavior of SIFCON beams without tensile steel, however the effect on the behavior of SIFCON beams was negligible. In addition, the flexural strength equation for SIFCON was proposed in the study. The mean and standard deviation of the ratios of the predicted value to the experimental value are 1.02 and 0.04, respectively. Therefore, the proposed flexural strength equation can be useful for the design and performance evaluation of SIFCON beam.
Among the various alternatives to make a steel tubular member connection, making a slotted and gusset plate welded connection is one of the most frequently preferred alternatives. This type of connection is essentially an end connection that is made by slotting the tube longitudinally, inserting the gusset plate and then placing longitudinal fillet welds at the tube-to-plate interface. In this paper an experimental study on the behaviour of such connections in stainless steel is presented. 24 specimens were tested under concentrically applied axial tensile forces for varying tube-to-gusset plate weld lengths. Both circular and box section members were considered in the test program. Load-deformation curves were obtained and comparisons were made in terms of strength and ductility. The results obtained from the study were then critically examined and compared with currently available design guidance for slotted gusset plate welded tubular end connections. It is noted that no specific rules exist in international specifications on structural stainless steel which cover the design of such connections. Therefore, the results of this study are compared with the existing design rules for carbon steel.
