  • Boiler equipment in power plant is always being operated in harsh conditions and severely exposed to the extreme environment of high temperature. Therefore periodically the state of devices should be checked, diagnosed, and analyzed to ensure the reliability of the equipment. Traditionally, such a diagnosis is based one or two physical properties of the sample taken from the equipment like hardness, microstructure, etc.. However, to enhance the confidence of the diagnosis, it is necessary to synthesize those properties together. This paper is to propose such a synthetic procedure for T23 which was developed to be used in $569^{\circ}C/596^{\circ}C$ condition. Creep test and accelerated degradation test were performed simultaneously, and the physical properties such as microstructure, tensile strength, yield strength, hardness, and indentation properties were measured. This paper proposes a method of determining the remaining life by quantitative comparison. It will provide the basis of evaluating life assessment more objective and reliable.

  • Microstructural characteristics and strengthening behavior in Mg-5wt%Zn-0.6wtZr alloys have been investigated by a combination of optical, secondary electron and transmission electron microscopy, differential thermal analysis, and hardness and tensile, creep property measurements. The result have been compared with those of Mg-5wt%Zn alloys. The as-squeeze cast microstructure consisted of dendrite ${\alpha}-Mg$, interdendrite or intergranular $Mg_7Zn_3$ and fine dispersoids of $ZnZr_2$. The size of secondary solidification phases in Mg-5wt%Zn-0.6wtZr alloys was significantly smaller than that of the Mg-5wt%Zn alloys due to the existence of fine dispersoid of $ZnZr_2$ which also effected the refinement of grain size. TEM study showed that the main cause of age hardening is formation of fine rodlike ${\beta}_1\;'$ precipitates as well as fine $ZnZr_2$ dispersoids. Due to the observed microstructural characteristics mechanical propeties of Mg-5wt%Zn-0.6wtZr alloys was found to be superior to those of Mg-5wt%Zn alloys.

  • The microstructural evolution of a cast Ni base superalloy, IN738LC, has been investigated after long term exposure at several temperatures. Most of the fine secondary ${\gamma}^{\prime}$ particles resolved after 2000 hour exposure at $816^{\circ}C$. At higher temperatures of $871^{\circ}C$ and $927^{\circ}C$, secondary ${\gamma}^{\prime}$ resolved after 1000 hours of exposure, and cuboidal primary ${\gamma}^{\prime}$ grew with exposure time. During the thermal exposure, ${\sigma}$ phase formed at all tested temperatures, and ${\eta}$ phase was observed around interdendritic regions due to carbide degeneration. The influence of microstructural evolution during thermal exposure on the mechanical properties has been analyzed. The effects of ${\gamma}^{\prime}$ particle growth are more pronounced on the high temperature creep properties than on the room temperature tensile properties.

  • By examining the fatigue deformation properties of 12% Cr rotor steel which has been proved to have high fatigue and creep rupture strength around 600deg. C, authors reviewed major fatigue life prediction models such as Manson, Langer and Morrow equations, and following results were obtained. (1) A simple life prediction model for 12% Cr rotor steel was obtained as follows : DELTA..epsilon.$_{t}$ =2.18+.sigma.$_{u}$ /E+ $N^{-0.065}$+ $e^{0.6}$ $N^{-0.025}$ This equation shows that fatigue life, N, can be easily determined when total strain range, DELTA..epsilon.$_{t}$ and ultimate tensile strength, .sigma.$_{u}$ are known by simple tension test on the given test conditions. (2) Life prediction equation with equivalent maximum stress, DELTA..sigma./2, corresponding maximum strain in one cycle at room temperature is as follows: DELTA..sigma./w=-7.01logN+96.69+96.69

  • The performance of HANA claddings was evaluated in out-of-pile conditions. All the performance test results revealed that HANA claddings were superior to the reference claddings such as Zircaloy-4 and A-cladding. Corrosion resistance was improved by 60 to 70% compared to the commercial claddings. Creep, burst, tensile, LOCA, wear and microstructural properties were shown to be as good as the commercial claddings.

  • In recent days, the beneficial effects of using fiber reinforced concrete, especially Steel Fiber Reinforced Concrete, have been on the rise. However, few studies on long-term behavior of SFRC are executed in spite of great demand of SFRC. The fact that SFRC is far better than NRC in various properties such as tensile strength, ductility, flexural toughness has been certified by many researchers. And, those advantages can be also applied to decrease the structures deterioration induced by creep and shrinkage. Furthermore, even though it is fact that SFRC is generally used in joint members to distribute concentrated stresses by fibers, SFRC is treated as NRC in designing especially for long-term behavior of structures. So this paper is about a study on the long-term response of SFRC applied to HPC about 40MPa. Therefore, in this paper, the test results of eighteen high-strength concrete specimens and steel fiber-reinforced concrete specimens, with steel fiber content of $1\%$ by volume were presented. The test result shows that SFRC is advantageous rather than NRC in long-term response.

  • Serviceability of reinforced concrete building is affected dominantly by long term deflection of slab. And in case of reinforced concrete building with flat plate slab, severe long term deflection was expected because it has no beams which have large flexural stiffness. Therefore it is important to calculate exactly long term deflection of RC flat plate structure to assure its serviceability. However, current codes couldn't calculate exactly long term deflection of RC flat plate structure because they don't consider effects of boundary condition and construction load. By the way, recently the method to calculate long term deflection of RC flat plate structure was proposed by considering these effects. In the present study, long term deflection of RC flat plate structure was analyzed by comparing this method with recent experimental results. In conclusion, long term deflection of RC flat plate structure was affected considerably by effects of boundary condition, construction load and tensile strength of concrete. And recently proposed method considers these effects reasonably but it should be modified to reflect creep effect of RC flat plate slab reasonably.

  • In this study, series of tests were performed for drying shrinkage characteristics of concrete with power type shrinkage reducing agent (SRA) and fly ash as a part of research to reduce drying shrinkage of concrete. Firstly, for the mechanical properties, a target strength was acquired securely. In the unrestraint shrinkage tests, the SRA decreased the drying shrinkage about $200{\mu}{\varepsilon}$. Lastly, in the ring tests, due to the tensile creep effect, the concrete with SRA showed the cracking times as much again as the concrete with ordinary Portland cement only did.

  • The effects of a heat treatment on the carbide formation behavior and mechanical properties of the cobalt-based superalloy X-45 were investigated here. Coarse primary carbides formed in the interdendritic region in the as-cast specimen, along with the precipitation of fine secondary carbides in the vicinity of the primary carbides. Most of the carbides formed in the interdendritic region were dissolved into the matrix by a solution treatment at $1274^{\circ}C$. Solutionizing at $1150^{\circ}C$ led to the dissolution of some carbides at the grain boundaries, though this also caused the precipitation of fine carbides in the vicinity of coarse primary carbides. A solution treatment followed by an aging treatment at $927^{\circ}C$ led to the precipitation of fine secondary carbides in the interdendritic region. Very fine carbides were precipitated in the dendritic region by an aging heat treatment at $927^{\circ}C$ and $982^{\circ}C$ without a solution treatment. The hardness value of the alloy solutionized at $1150^{\circ}C$ was somewhat higher than that in the as-cast condition; however, various aging treatments did not strongly influence the hardness value. The specimens as-cast and aged at $927^{\circ}C$ showed the highest hardness values, though they were not significantly affected by the aging time. The specimens aged only at $982^{\circ}C$ showed outstanding tensile and creep properties. Thermal exposure at high temperatures for 8000 hours led to the precipitation of carbide at the center of the dendrite region and an improvement of the creep rupture lifetimes.

  • The aim of this study was to analyze the characteristics of ground subsidence and land-creeping in four mining areas in Korea. Land creeping were occurred by large-scale sinkholes and tensile cracks in the mining areas. This ares showed the shape as large-scale landslides by the collapsed stone debris pushed in the direction of gravity. The rock type in the No. 4 survey area was sandstone and shale, whereas that of other three areas was limestone. The limestone was generally vulnerable to land creeping. The ground subsidence and land creeping in four mining areas were located near the ridge of the mountain. The land creeping by ground subsidence in the mining areas showed complex shapes due to the cavity of underground tunnel and the colluvial debris by gravity in the mountain area, whereas the land creeping in Korea are in the shape of landslide. The average slope of the mining area was ranged from $30.4^{\circ}$ to $33.7^{\circ}$. The values were higher ($1.5^{\circ}{\sim}4.8^{\circ}$) than the average slopes for landslide areas.
