  • Fourteen species of the genus Gonocephalum and one species of the genus Opatrum (Tenebrionidae, Opatrini) from Korea have been previously recorded. They are taxonomically reviewed based on many faunistic reports and research papers. We also examined many specimens including voucher materials of the previous studies. Among the recorded species, G. sabulosum is excluded because it was misidentified for the individual variation of Opatrum subaratum. We couldn’t find any Korean materials of four species (G. japanum, G. bilinearum, G. outreyi, G. malayanum), and used the materials determined from other countries. Key to 13 species of the genus Gonocephalum, illustrations of adults and male aedeagus are provided.

  • Two species of the genus Palorus Mulsant of Palorini (Tenebrionidae) are reported for the first time from Korea, P. ratzeburgii (Wissman, 1848) and P. subdepressus (Wollaston, 1864). These species are economically importance as stored product insect pests in the tropical and subtropical countries, and occur in low densities in the rice mills of southern Korea. Adult morphology, taxonomic diagnosis, illustrations of diagnostic characteristics of these species, and a taxonomic key to the 6 species related to plant quarantine inspections in Korea are provided.

  • An investigation of the severe destruction of wood ear mushroom (Auricularia auricula-judae), which were commercially cultivated in a plastic house in Hwabuk-myeon, Jeju-si, South Korea from April to August 2021, revealed a tenebrionid beetle subsequently identified as Platydema takeii Nakane, 1956 (Coleoptera: Tenebrionidae: Diaperinae). To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report of a tenebrionid species infesting commercially cultivated mushrooms in South Korea. The damage symptoms and diagnosable characteristics of adults and larvae of P. takeii are provided in this study.

First Record of Ades masidai (Nakane, 1963) from Korea (Coleoptera: Tenebrionidae: Leiochrinini) (한국산 미기록종 여수둥글거저리의 보고 (딱정벌레목: 거저리과: 둥글거저리족))

  • The tribe Leiochrinini of Diaperinae (Tenebrionidae) is presented for the first time from Korea. One unrecorded species, Ades masidai Nakane, 1963 are reported. Morphological photographs of adult, redescription and illustrations of diagnostic characteristics are provided.

Taxonomy of the genus Lagria Fabricius (Coleoptera: Tenebrionidae: Lagriinae) in Korea (한국산 털보잎벌레붙이속(Lagria Fabricius)(딱정벌레목 : 거저리과 : 잎벌레붙이아과)에 대한 분류학적 연구)

  • The larger black flour beetle, Cynaeus angustus (LeConte) (Diaperinae: Tenebrionidae) is reported for the first time in Korea. C. angustus is economically important as an insect pest in stored products in the Nearctic region, and has been identified in several rice mills in Korea. Taxonomic diagnosis and photographs presenting the morphology of adults and larvae are provided, along with a pictorial identification key to 17 tenebrionid pests detected during quarantine in stored products in Korea.
