  • In this paper the effect of prestressing force on the first flexural natural frequency of beams is studied. Finite element technique is used to model the beam-tendon system, and the prestressing force is applied in the form of initial tension in the tendon. It is shown that the effect of prestressing force on the first natural frequency depends on bonded and unbonded nature of the tendon, and also on the eccentricity of tendon. For the beams with bonded tendon, the prestressing force does not have any appreciable effect on the first flexural natural frequency. However, for the beams with unbonded tendon, the first natural frequency significantly changes with the prestressing force and eccentricity of the tendon. If the eccentricity of tendon is small, then the first natural frequency decreases with the prestressing force and if the eccentricity is large, then the first flexural natural frequency increases with the prestressing force. Results of the present study clearly indicate that the first natural frequency can not be used as an easy indicator for detecting the loss of prestressing force, as has been attempted in some of the past studies.

  • Global strength check for TLP tendon body can be estimated based on maximum tendon tensions and bending moments, which are resulted in TLP global performance analysis. Final tendon length, especially thread length on Length Adjustment Joint, is easily calculated with water depth at TLP in-place location, TLP lock-off draft and unlocking length of tendon bottom section. And LAJ thread length, which is locked with TLP top tendon connector, should be carefully determined with tendon design and installation tolerances.

  • Ossification of the Achilles tendon is a rare condition that is characterized by the presence of an ossific mass contained within the substance of the tendon. The ossified mass is usually asymptomatic but when it grows large and painful, it deteriorates the function of Achilles tendon. We report a case of ossification of the Achilles tendon, which was successfully treated by removal of the ossific mass and proximal flexor hallucis longus (FHL) tendon transfer.

  • This paper presents an analytical prediction of Nonlinear characteristics of prestressed concrete bridges by strengthened of externally tendon considering the work sequence, using beam-column element based on flexibility method and tendon element. The beam-column element was developed with reinforced concrete material nonlinearities which are based on the smeared crack concept. The fiber hysteresis rule of beam-column element is derived from the uniaxial constitutive relations of concrete and reinforcing steel fibers. The tendon element represent the bonded tendon and unbonded tendon behaviors. Beam-column element and tendon element was be subroutine A computer program, named RCAHEST (Reinforced Concrete Analysis in Higher Evaluation System Technology), for the analysis of RC and PSC structures was used. The proposed numerical method for prestressed concrete structures by strengthened of externally tendon is verified by comparison with reliable experimental results.

  • Ossification of the Achilles tendon is a very rare condition. We report a case with ossification of Achilles tendon, recently treated surgically. The patient was a 44 year old male whose chief complaint was discomfort around the Achilles tendon. He didn't have a previous history of surgery or trauma. The roentgenography showed that the bony mass was $15\times3cm$ on the right leg. Ossification of Achilles tendon was found in the Achilles tendon and treated by surgical removal of a bony mass and suturing the tendon. Microscopic examination of the extirpated specimen revealed bone formation through enchondral and intramembranous ossification in the Achilles tendon.

  • A method of reinforcement using external tendons has been found to be one of the effective techniques of reinforcement and its application is increasing. In this paper, the method to calculate the initial tendon force is proposed for the improvement of load-carrying capacity in existing steel-concrete composite bridges. An equation for the increment of tendon force was derived for tendon configurations and live load types, and the effect of reinforcement in a composite beam was numerically studied. The method to calculate the number of tendon and initial tendon force was presented by proposing the new method to calculate the rating factor, which considers the increment of tendon force. The method was shown to be effective for an existing steel-concrete bridge.

  • Background: We conducted a systematic review of the literature to investigate the correlation between the interval to treatment and management of tendon avulsion ruptures in the musculotendinous junction (MTJ) of the forearm. Methods: A thorough literatures search for studies of tendon avulsion injuries at the forearm was conducted using PubMed, MEDLINE, CINAHL, and Cochrane databases in accordance with the PRISMA guidelines. In total, five case series and 15 case reports accounting for 87 injured tendons involving 60 patients were selected for the analysis. Results: Twenty-six patients had 44 tendon injuries associated with avulsion amputations, 31 patients had 38 tendon ruptures associated with closed avulsion injuries and three patients had five tendon ruptures associated with open avulsion injuries. Eighteen of the 49 (37%) patients were immediately treated for tendon ruptures and one of the 32 (3%) tendon ruptures treated via elective surgery was directly repaired. Additionally, 18 of the 30 (60%) tendons were directly repaired and 12 of the 30 (40%) tendons were transferred or side-to-side repaired in the immediately treated series. In contrast, one of the 28 (4%) tendon ruptures were directly repaired and 27 of the 28 (96%) tendons were transferred or side-to-side repaired in the electively treated series. Conclusion: In managing digital tendon avulsions at the MTJ, an immediate treatment could provide an opportunity to repair the ruptured tendon directly to the muscle.

  • The acute Achilles tendon rupture usually occurs to the people who participate in sports-related activities between 30 and 40 years of age. Recently surgical repair is the standard treatment in acute Achilles tendon rupture. After the Achilles tendon rupture in the left ankle, a 30-years old young man had been suffered from re-rupturing within three months after the primary repair. 2 years later, right-side Achilles tendon was reruptured after primary repair consequently. In the revision surgery, we performed V-Y advancement of the gastrocnemius-soleus fascia and reinforcement of the semitendinosus tendon. None of the English-literature was reported about using the semitendinosus tendon in revision surgery of the Achilles tendon retear previously. Therefore, we report this case and surgical technique because of the simple technique and the excellent results.

  • Biceps tendon dislocation combined with rupture of subscapularis tendon is not a common lesion and there has been few case reported in Korea. We experienced one fifty Six years old male patient who shows typical features on physical examination and roentgenographic finding. He was injured by direct trauma on his right shoulder in adducted and external rotated position. He showed positive findings on passive external rotation test and lift-off test. On MR!, the subscpaularis tendon was totally ruptured and the biceps tendon was dislocated to anteromedial aspect of the glenoid labrum, which was typical finding. On the arthroscopic examination, the subscapularis tendon was totally ruptured from its humeral attachment and the biceps tendon was not seen in its normal anatomical position and it was dislocated antermedially to the glenoid labrum. We repaired the subscapularis tendon to humerus by use of suture anchor and the biceps tendon was relocated to its normal anatomical position in the intertubercular groove. On the post operative 6 months follow up, the patient shows improvements in his subjective symptoms and active range of motion.

  • Peroneal tendon disorders are one of many causes of chronic lateral ankle pain. They are related to chronic conditions and anatomical factors and can cause persistent pain and functional impairment if neglected. Peroneal tendon tears are frequently misdiagnosed due to the absence of clear symptoms. For subacute or chronic peroneal tendon ruptures, tendons often became irreparable, and hence various surgical options have been introduced to address this issue. Current surgical treatment options include debridement and tubularization, tenodesis, tendon transfer, and reconstruction with a graft. There have been a few reports on the use of reconstruction techniques with an allograft. In this report, we present a rare case of a peroneal tendon reconstruction technique using an allograft in a young male with simultaneous irreparable peroneus longus and a complete rupture of the brevis tendon. The management plan, prognostic outlook, and a subsequent review of the relevant literature are also presented.
