In order to understand the hydrological processes on the mountainous forest, the configuration of soil evaporation (E) out of evapotranspiration (ET) is a challenging and important topic. In this study, we attempted to understand the soil evaporation process for a humid forest hillslope via measuring and analyzing soil moistures with a sampling interval in 2 hours at three locations for 10 days between May 22th and 31th 2009. Two methods were used to estimate soil evaporation in every 2hr; one is a method using soil moisture measurement ($E_{SM}$), the others methods are based on Penman equation (Penman (1948), Staple (1974), Konukcu (2007), Equilibrium Penman ($E_{equili}$)). As a critical parameter in determining $E_{SM}$, the dry surface layer (DSL), was estimated using energy balance equation. The accumulated soil evaporation ($E_{SM}$) of A, B, C points were estimated as 2.09, 1.08 and 2.88 mm, respectively. The estimated evaporation of Penman (1948), Staple (1974), Konukcu (2007), $E_{equili}$ were 4.91, 8.80, 8.63 and 3.28 mm. The proposed method with soil moisture measurement showed lower soil evaporations than the other conventional methods. The increasing soil temperature and interaction between soil and atmosphere due to existence of litter and DSL are considered as dominant factors for soil evaporation. The $E_{SM}$ has the apparent lag time between 2 and 4 hr compared with $E_{equili}$ and net radiation. The DSL and surface resistance ($r_s$) were increased as soil moisture was decreased for in this study. The estimated DSL through the temporal distribution analysis of soil moisture and tension measurements was also similar to that of the energy balance relationship.

The major tributaries in Sapgyo-reservoir watershed at Chungcheongnam-do were monitored for flowrate and water quality in order to analyze the characteristics of watershed and to prepare for implementation of total maximum daily load (TMDL). According to the analytical results of flowrate and water quality monitoring data of sixteen tributaries, the tributaries with the value of flowrate over $0.5m^3/s$ were 62.5% among the monitored tributaries and the value of flowrate in the Cheonancheon, Namwoncheon, Shinyangcheon except Gokgyocheon, Muhancheon, Sapgyocheon was relatively greater than the other tributaries. However, 37.5% of the tributaries were exceeded the water quality standards of Sapgyocheon sub-basin ($BOD_5$ 5 mg/L and/or below) and the concentration of water pollutants regardless of water quality parameters in Cheonancheon, Maegokcheon, Oncheoncheon including Gokgyocheon located in Gokgyocheon catchment were relatively higher than the other tributaries. The tributaries for improving the water quality, according to stream grouping method based on the results of flowrate and water quality monitoring data, were selected. In the Sapgyo-reservoir watershed, the tributaries for improving water quality, which has a large flowrate and a high concentration of water pollutants, were selected at Cheonancheon, Gokgyocheon, Maegokcheon, Namwoncheon, Oncheoncheon. The various water quality improving plans for those tributaries, in accordance with the reduction of point source pollution by population and livestock, should be established and implemented.
We studied 115 patients with seizure who had been performed brain SPECT, brain MRI or CT and EEG. To evaluate the pattern of brain SPECT in seizure patients 28 of them had secondary epilepsies, 87 had primary epilepsies. In primary epilepsies, 42 were generalized seizure and 45 were partial seizure. The causes of secondary epilepsies were congenital malformation, cerebromalacia, cerebral infarction, multiple sclerosis, AV-malformation, granuloma and etc, in order. In 28 secondary epilepsies, 25 of them, brain SPECT lesions was concordant with MRI or CT lesions, 3 were disconcordant. The brain SPECT findings of generalized seizure were normal in 22 patients, diffuse irregular decreased perfusion in 8, decreased in frontal cortex in 4, temporal in 5 and frontotemporal in 3. In 45 partial seizure, 19 brain SPECT were concordant with EEG (42.4%).

In order to extract the spatio-temporal characteristics of long-term variability of the net heat flux on the sea surface in the East Asian marginal seas, empirical orthogonal function (EOF) analysis was conducted using data set calculated every 12 hours interval during 1978-1995. Among the first three modes explaining 73% of the total variance, the first mode having high peak at 1 year period indicates high variability area around the Sandong Peninsula and central and northeastern part of the East Sea. In the second mode which has spatial distribution of dipole type at the north and south, the peaks appear at 3.6 year and 2.3 year cycles. Time coefficient of the second EOF is believed to have close relation with the E1 Nino and has out-of-phase variation with NINO3 SST. Lagged correlation between NINO3 SST and time coefficient of the second EOF indicates four month time delay in the NINO3 SST. In the third mode which has opposite sign at the east and west, the periodicity of 6-9 year cycle has relatively clear appearance compared to other two EOFs. Also, high heat loss exceeding 800 W/$m^{2}$ in winter time occured at the south part of the Sandong Peninsula and Vladivostok. It reveals more frequent occurrence of about two times at the Sandong Peninsula than Vladivostok. The event is concentrated in January at Vladivostok, but it occurs primarily in December and January at the Sandong Peninsula.
In order to study on the relative significance of nanoplankton in Chonsu Bay, nanoplankton samples were collected and analyzed monthly from September, 1985 to August, 1986. A total of 33 taxa representing 6 phyla, 8 classes, 13 orders, 17 families, 25 genera, 33 species have been identified. Micromonas pusilla, Pedinomonas mikron, Pyramimonas grosii, Chroomonas lateralis, Pyrenomonas salina (=Chromonas salina), chroomonas sp., Cyclotella sp., Gonyaulax sp., unidentified sphericl monads (2-5um and 6-8um in size), and unidentified naviculiod form were common species. the distribution of nanoplankton standing crops showed a great temporal and spartial variations. Nanoplankton standing crops was highest in October, 1985 and lowest in September, 1985. The abundance of nanoplankton in Chonsu Bay may be within the range of that of most coastal areas. Unidentified spherical monada (2-5um and 6-8um in size) were most dominant. Chlorophyll-a concentrations of nanoplankton ranged from 0.81 to 4.78ug/l and daily primary productivity by nanoplankton, 16.4 to 767.2 mgC/m$^2$/day. Nanofraction of total phytoplankton cell number accounted for 38% to 93% (average 6%), chlorophyll-a and primary productivity of nanoplankton 25 to 87% (average 64%) and 9 to 87% (average 53%), respectively. The results implied that nanoplankton could be a considerable contribution to phytoplankton biomass and primary productivity in Chonsu Bay phytoplankton community.

Hydrological models with many parameters and complex model structures require a powerful and detailed model calibration/validation scheme. In this study, we proposed a multi-variable and multi-site calibration and validation framework for the Soil Water Assessment Tool (SWAT) model applied in the Gap-cheon catchment located downstream of the Geum river basin. The sensitivity analysis conducted before main calibration helped understand various hydrological processes and the characteristics of subcatchments by identifying sensitive parameters in the model. In addition, the model's parameters were estimated based on existing data prior to calibration in order to increase the validity of model. The Nash-Sutcliffe coefficients and correlation coefficient were used to estimate compare model output with the observed streamflow data: $R_{eff}\;and\;R^2$ ranged 0.41-0.84 and 0.5-0.86, respectively, at the Heuduck station. Model reproduced baseflow estimated using recursive digital filter except for 2-5% overestimation at the Sindae and Boksu stations. Model also reproduced the temporal variability and fluctuation magnitude of observed groundwater levels with $R^2$ of 0.71 except for certain periods. Therefore, it was concluded that the use of multi-variable and multi-site method provided high confidence for the structure and estimated parameter values of the model.

Using kinematic wave equation, the influence of moving rainstorms to runoff was analysised with a focus on watershed shapes and rainfall distribution types. Watershed shapes used are the oblong, square and elongated shape, and the distribution types of moving storms used are uniform, advanced and intermediate type. The runoff hydrographs according to the rainfall distribution types were simulated and the characteristics were explored for the storms moving down, up and cross the watershed with various velocity. And the hydrographs were compared in the case of varing the rainstorm intensity and varing the rainstorm length in order to make the same total runoff volume. When the rainstorm intensity was varied the shape, peak time and peak runoff of a runoff hydrograph are significantly influenced by spatial and temporal variability in rainfall and watershed shapes. The peak time of down and upstream moving strorms appeared latest in the case of the elongated shape basin, meanwhile at cross stream moving storms, the peak time of elongated shape basin is earlier than the others. For storms moving downstream peak time was more delayed than for other storm direction in the case of elongated watershed. The runoff volume and time base of the hydrograph decreased with the increasing storm speed.

In motorway traffic flow control, the conventional way based on real-time response has been changed into advanced way based on proactive response. Future traffic conditions over multiple time intervals are crucial input data for advanced motorway traffic flow control. It is necessary to overcome the uncertainty of the future state in order for forecasting multiple-period traffic volumes, as the number of uncertainty concurrently increase when the forecasting horizon expands. In this vein, multi-interval forecasting of traffic volumes requires a viable approach to conquer future uncertainties successfully. In this paper, a forecasting model is proposed which effectively addresses the uncertainties of future state based on the behaviors of temporal evolution of traffic volume states that intrinsically exits in the big past data. The model selects the past states from the big past data based on the state evolution of current traffic volumes, and then the selected past states are employed for estimating future states. The model was also designed to be suitable for data management systems in practice. Test results demonstrated that the model can effectively overcome the uncertainties over multiple time periods and can generate very reliable predictions in term of prediction accuracy. Hence, it is indicated that the model can be mounted and utilized on advanced data management systems.

On the basis of the topographic maps in the 1910's and 1990's and the classification map of Landsat TM satellite image photographed on Sept 1, 1996, the spatial distribution and the current situation concerning tidal flats in Korea were studied by measuring the area with GIS Arc/Info system and examining the regional condition required to develop the tidal flats. The results are as follow; The tidal flat resources in Korea cover an area of about 3800 square meters, including the reclaimed one since the 1910's. And they are widely distributed in the west coast of South Jeonla, Kyunggi bay, Asan bay, the south coast of South Jeonla, Kunsan bay, Chunsoo bay, and the coast of South Kyungsang and Pusan when put in the order from bigger area. Given the area under the construction at present, more than 50% of the tidal flats are reclaimed ones. The tidal flats are being developed especially in Kyunggi and Asan bays because they perfectly measure up to the conditions required. For Kunsan bay, a remarkably good supply system of the alluvial sedimentary materials and a favorable coastline requirement for the coast of the South Jeonla also contribute to the development of the tidal flats. In the case study of Kunsan bay, it was shown that the shape of the tidal flat is making a continuous change and the area is getting bigger in terms of the multi-temporal change of the tidal flat development. However, while in the first half of the 20th century, the increasing rate of the area was considered to be rather high, it is considerably lowered almost to a standstill in the latter half of the century.
Recently, many users discuss and argue with others using replying comments. This implies that a series of comments can be a new source of information since various opinions can be appeared in the dispute. It is important to understand the implicit dispute structure immanent in the comment set. In this paper, we examine the characteristics of disputes using replying comments in the Internet forum sites using a set of test articles with the comments collected from SketicalLeft and Agora, which are famous Internet forum sites in Korea. And we propose a new method for detecting and visualizing the dispute sections and relations from a large set of replying comments. To show the performance of our method, we measured precision, recall, and F-measure. According to the experimental results, the F-measures of the detection of the comments in dispute are about 0.84 (SketpcialLeft) and 0.83 (Agora); those of the detection of the commenter pairs in dispute are 0.75 (SketpcialLeft) and 0.82 (Agora), respectively. Since our method exploits the temporal order of commenters to detect the disputes, it is not dependent on the host language nor on the typos in comments. Also, our method can help the readers to grasp the structure of controversy hidden in the comment set through the visualized view.
