  • Solid phase crystallization (SPC) of amorphous silicon is usually conducted at around $600^{\circ}C$ since it is used in the application of flat panel display using thermally susceptible glass substrate. In this study we conducted SPC experiments at temperatures higher than $600^{\circ}C$ using silicon wafers. Crystallization rate becomes dramatically rapid at higher temperatures since SPC kinetics is controlled by nucleation with high value of activation energy. We report SPC kinetics of high temperatures compared to that of low temperatures.

  • Temperature response of amoebae of thermotactic mutants have been investigated. Amoebae of the mutant strain HO 428 showed positive thermotaxs which is strong at lower temperaturs and drops sharply above the growth temperature of amoebae. The temperature response of HO 428 amoebae was not affected by the length of amoebae on the grdients. HO 596 amoebae seemed to have both positive and negative thermotactic responses shortly after food depletion. Longer exposure of these amoebae on the thermal gradients induced a stronger negative response at lower temperatures and an apparent positive response at higher temperatures. A similar changes could be observed in HO 1445 amoebae. Based on the steady positive thermotactic response by HO 428 amoebae and the mode of change in termperature response at higher temperatures, 24$^{\circ}C$ and $25^{\circ}C$, by HO 596 amoebae, a model for the temperature response of vegetative Dictyostelium discoideum amoebae, strain HL 50, has been proposed. The main features of the model are: a positive response at the thermal gradients with midpoint temperatures lower than the growth temperatures of amoebae and a negative response above it.

  • This paper is represented a general equations to obtain the elastic local buckling stresses for the flange and web of H-beam under compression at elevated temperatures and is also developed the software to perform the elastic local buckling analysis at elevated temperatures. Eurocode3 Part 1.2 are used to analyse the decrease in steel yield strength and elastic modulus at elevated temperatures. For design examples of 6 H-beams, the elastic local buckling stresses and critical temperatures for the slenderness ratio $(b/t_f\;and\;d/t_w)$ of the flange and web under uniform compression at elevated temperatures have been analysed by a computer program of this paper. It can be seen that the computer analytical results of this study show a good agreement with the experimental results by Wadee.

  • This paper have performed to investigate the influence of certain parameters, including the boundary condition types, load ratios of the steel beams, and span/depth ratios of the beams itself on the structural behaviour of the steel beams at elevated temperatures. This paper is analysed the stress and vertical deflection at mid-span of the steel beams at elevated temperatures and also predicted 'failure' temperatures of the steel beams at elevated temperatures. Fire analysis used here is analysed by software VULCAN. Design examples are given to describe the structural behaviour of the steel beams at elevated temperatures.

  • In this paper, vacancy clustering formation and diffusion of germanium substrate was studied. The analysis method was adopted Monte Carlo method. At temperatures higher than melting point, fewer clusters formed, but there was less variation in the number of clusters than at lower temperatures, as the time increased. Equilibrium diffusivities in the clustering region were $10^2$ lower than those of free vacancies in the initial stage of kinetic lattice Monte Carlo simulations. They were expressed according to three temperature regimes: at temperatures above 1,100 K, at temperatures of 1,100-900 K, and at temperatures below 900 K. The effective mean migration energy, 1.1 eV, closely coincided with that of the 1.0-1.2 eV in experiments.

  • The minimum temperatures are important element in the daily human life, the climatic classification, and so on. In this study, the authors aim to make an analysis the distribution characteristics of minimum temperatures of 95 weather stations in Korea by using the Climatological Standard Normals of Korea VolumeI, VolumeII, and the Climatological Standard Normals of North Korea. The important results are as follows 1) The daily, fifthly, and tenthly minimum temperatures show the highest rate of occurrance on 14th of January( Occurrance rate : 56.6% ), 16~20th of January( 37.6% ), and the middle ten days of January( 82.1% ) respectively. 2) In the regional distribution of minimum temperatures in winter, the values of northern part, inland area, and west coastal region are lower than those of southern, coastal, and east coastal regions respectively. And, bigger cities and industrial area( Seoul, Incheon, Daejeon, Daegu, etc. ) have larger values than the its vicinities. 3) When the daily minimum temperature is $0^{\circ}C$ and less, the days of northern part, inland area, and wests coastal region are higher than those of southern, coastal, and east coastal regions respectively.

  • Creep characteristic is an important failure mechanism when evaluating engineering materials that are soft material as polymers or used as mechanical elements at high temperatures. One of the popular thermo-elastic polymers, Polymethyl methacrylate(PMMA) which is used broadly for engineering polymer, as it has excellent mechanical and thermal properties compared to other polymers, was studied for creep characteristic at various level of stresses and temperatures. From the experimental results, the creep limit of PMMA at room temperature is 85 % of tensile strength. which is higher than that of PE (75%)at room temperature. Also the creep limits decreased to nil linearly as the temperatures increased, up to $120^{\circ}C$ of the melting point($267^{\circ}C$). Also the first and third stage among the three creep stages were non-existent nor were there any rupture failure which occurred for many metals at high temperatures.

  • The response of water stree under high and low temperatures, was shown differently according to the longer the suspension period of water supply. Leaf photosynthetic rate(LPS), leaf water potential(WP), relative leaf water content and relative soil water content were lower. At the higher temperatures, the percentate of reduction in LPS and WP was greater than at low temperatures. It is suggested that evaporation rate should be higher in the high temperature than the lower temperature. Also leaf water potential was lower at high temperature than at low temperature. After the 9 th day of treatment , LSP was remarkably reduced at high temperature, but the reduction of LPS was not significant at low temperature. Solidago virga-aurea var. asiatic that maintained LPS of 3rd day after treatment was more strong than other varieties at low temperatures. The silting and curling of leaves were observed symptoms of stress on the 9th day at the both temperatures. The leaves of aster scaber and Ligularia fischeri turned red on the 9th day after treatment at low temperature.

  • In this study, thermal effects on the mechanical properties of cement mortars with some types of fibers is investigated. The replaced fibers were made of polypropylene (PP), aramid, glass and basalt. In other words, the main goal of this paper is to study the effects of different fibers on the mechanical properties of cement mortars after subjecting to normal and sub-elevated temperatures. The experimental tests used for investigating these effects were compressive, splitting tensile, and four-point bending tests at 20, 100 and $300^{\circ}C$, respectively. Moreover, the microstructures of the specimens in different temperatures were investigated using scanning electron microscope (SEM). Based on the experimental results, the negative effects of sub-elevated temperatures on four-point bending tests were much more than the others. Moreover, using the fibers with higher melting points could not improve the qualities of the samples in sub-elevated temperatures.

  • This paper investigates the flexural behavior of reinforced recycled aggregates concrete (RRAC) beams after exposed to high temperatures. The experimental results from 17 specimens were present and compared with temperatures, recycled coarse aggregate (RCA) replacement percentages, and concrete strength as variables. It was found that the high temperature would not cause an observable change in the failure pattern. However, high temperature can significantly reduce the stiffness and ductility, and accelerate the damage degradation of specimens. After exposure to 600℃, the ultimate bearing capacity of the specimens decreased by 20%-30% The mechanical properties of RRAC beams after high temperatures were barely impacted by the replacement percentages. Increasing the concrete strength of RCA could effectively improve the bearing capacity and peak deflection of RRAC beams after exposed to high temperatures. Furthermore, the calculation method of the bending bearing capacity and deflection of RRAC beams was also discussed.
