  • Titanium oxide films were deposited by the HCP (hollow cathode plasma) reactor at room temperature. With results of simulation about HCP reactor, the temperature profile is uniform on substrate regardless of the heat generation at cathode. The velocity profile on the surface of substrate is more uniform with increasing the gap between cathode and substrate, and surface roughness was decreased with increasing the gap between cathode and substrate. We could confirm that the composition of oxide increased with RF-power, and the ratio of O to Ti in the films was about 2 : 1 at RF-power of 240 watt and distance between cathode and substrate of 3 cm.

  • (Ti.Si)C composite powders were synthesized by SHS method using microwave energy. Compositional and structural characterization of the powder were carried out by using scanning electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction. The average particle size of the synthesized (Ti.Si)C composite powders was smaller than that of the starting materials. From the results of the temperature profile, combustion temperature and velocity were decreased with increasing Si molar ratio. With increasing C molar ratio combustion temperature and velocity did not change. (Ti.Si)C composite was sintered at 185$0^{\circ}C$ for 60 min by using hot-pressing with 30 MPa. The best properties were obtained from the sintered specimen whose composition was 1 : 1 : 1.9 molar ratio of Ti : Si : C. The sintering density, flexural strength and vickers hardness of the sintered body were 4.71 g/㎤, 423 MPa and 21 GPa, respectively.

  • As decreasing size of chips, the need of wafer level packaging is increased in semi-conductor and display industries. Temperature uniformity is a crucial factor in vacuum soldering process to guarantee quality of bonding between chips and wafer. In this paper, a stepwise iterative algorithm has been suggested to obtain output profile of each heat source. Since this algorithm is based on open-loop stepwise iterative experimental technique, it is easier to implement and cost effective than real time feedback controls. Along with some experiments, it was shown that the suggested algorithm can remarkably improve temperature uniformity of wafer during whole heating process compared with the ordinary manual trial-and error method.

  • In this study, in order to achieve the uniformity of mechanical properties and microstructures of a hot-rolled coil in the transversal direction, the edge mask device is newly device is newly developed and installed at the upper laminar-flow cooling head in the run out table, which controls the transversal temperature of strip with enco panel and bar edge heater. The device that is transversally movable prevents the temperature drop of strip edge by blocking the cooling water into the strip edge. So, the pattern of edge mask set-up condition of the device was derived by analyzing the characteristics of strip temperature and mechanical properties according to the on-line application of edge mask.

  • The issue of reflow profiling continues to be a complex topic. The pains often associated with profiling can be reduced greatly if certain guidelines are followed and if there is a strong understanding of the variables that can be encountered during the reflow process. This paper shall discuss the appropriate guidelines and trouble shooting methods for reflow profiling, and in particular shall focus upon the benefits of implementing the linear ramp-to-spike profile. Delta T(T) is defined as the variation of temperature found on an assembly during the reflow process. Too large of a T can result in soldering defects, so to combat T a Ramp-Soak-Spike(RSS) reflow profile often is utilized. However, when using a newer-style reflow oven, the T often is minimized or eliminated, thus, the soak zone of the reflow profile becomes an unnecessary step. Because of this, the implementation of a linear Ramp-To-Spike(RTS) reflow profile should be considered. Benefits such as reduced energy costs, reduced solder defects, increased efficiency, improved wetting, and a simplification of the reflow profile process may be experienced when using the RTS profile. Included in this paper are the suggested process parameters for setting up the RSS and RTS profiles and the chemical and metallurgical reactions that occur at each set point of these profiles. The paper concludes with a discussion and pictures of several profile-related defects. Each of these defects is described, analyzed, and instructions are given for troublshooting these defects.

  • Zirconium carbide was prepared from the mixture of metal zirconium and carbon powders in argon atmosphere by Self-propagating High-temperature Synthesis (SHS) in order to obtain the best carbon source and dilution contents. The most exellent result was obtained in the case that active carbon was added as a starting material, 20~30 wt% dilution content. From thermal profile analysis an apparent activation energy of 118 KJ/mol was calculated. The maximum heating rate achieved during 15 wt% ZrC reaction by product dilution method was approximately 1.54$\times$105 K/s. Coupling this value with the measured wave velocity of 1.026cm/s yielded a maximum thermal gradient fo $1.5\times$105 K/cm. Using the definition of t* and the measured wave velocity, the effective thermal diffusivity, $\alpha$, was calculated to be 0.62$\times$102 $\textrm{cm}^2$/s.

  • In this study, the boards were manufactured according to the mandarin peels addition rate using sawdust and mandarin orange peel. After that, the mechanical properties and density profile of ceramics prepared by conditions through resin impregnation process and carbonization process were investigated. The bending and compression strengths of ceramics tended to increase as the resin impregnation rate increased. When the resin impregnation rate was 70%, the highest values were 8.58 MPa and 14.77 MPa, respectively. Also, the mechanical properties of ceramics according to carbonization temperature showed the highest values at 1,200℃ for bending strength of 11.09 MPa and compression strength of 17.20 MPa. The bending strength and compression strength according to the mandarin peels addition rate showed the highest values at 8.62 MPa and 14.16 MPa, respectively, when the mandarin orange peel addition rate was 5%. The mechanical properties tended to decrease when the addition rate of mandarin orange was increased. The density profile of ceramics showed a similar tendency to the mechanical properties. It can be seen that the density distribution from the surface layer to the center layer is more uniform as the resin impregnation rate and carbonization temperature increase and the mandarin peels addition rate decreases.

  • To investigate the importance of the hydrophobic interaction in the spermine-induced collapse of DNA to a compact structure, the effect of urea on the anomalous absorbance-temperature profile of calf thymus DNA has been investigated. With the increase of the urea concentration, the trough phase of the anomalous absorbance-temperature profile was eliminated eventually. The cooperativity, enthalpy, and the midpoint of the transition to the trough region are more sensitive to urea than those of the Tm-region transition. The present data of the adverse effect of urea, a hydrophobic environmental reagent, on the thermal stabilization of the condensed state of DNA, suggest that hydrophobic interaction may play an important role in the stabilization of the tertiary structure of the collapsed state of DNA.

  • It was investigated that the condition of fishing ground gave what kind of effect school type in relation to the property for the target school after the vertical temperature profile and school type were observed when tuna purse seiner for tuna purse seine was operated in the western pacific Ocean around the equator between December 12, 1993 and January 26, 1994. The results are as follows;1. This study divided fish schools associated with drift objects, a one targeted-operation, and the pelagic migrating fish schools that are another one for the property. The total of 23 operations were complected including 6 that targeted fish schools associated with drift objects and 17 that targeted pelagic migrating fish schools. It was known that the main operation was conducted on pelagic migrating fish school.2. Average and standard deviation of the depth of the surface mixing layer was 86.0m and 13.8m for fish schools associated with drift objects. 61.6m and 13.0m for pelagic migrating fish schools, respectively. The average depth of the surface mixing layer of the pelagic migrating fish schools was lower when compared to the fish schools associated with drift objects however the concentration of standard deviation was higher than those fish schools associated with drifted objects. Accordingly, it was assumed that the effect of vertical temperature profile for pelagic migrating fish school was higher than the fish schools associated with drift objects.

  • At the spermine concentration to cover the number of the binding site of spermine 0.016 per nucleotide, the Hill coefficient of the ethidium binding to the calf thymus DNA was 1.7, while the value was 0.38 in the absence of the spermine. On the basis of the data, together with other present data on the viscometric titration of the DNA with spermine and anomalous absorbance-temperature profile at 260nm and viscosity-temperature profile, it can be speculated that allosteric propagation of the conformational transition induced by the binding of the spermine may be involved in the monomolecular collapse of the DNA to a condensed structure.
