To perform this study, a total of sixteen monitoring people were recruited and trained before and during the study. Five domestic TV channels were selected to be monitored, and the total monitoring period was six months. For maximum efficiency, the monitoring people were assigned to 8 teams. The results of the present study can be summarized as follows : First, the total reported cases of information about food and nutrition were 237, of which about 30% were judged appropriate and 70% as inappropriate. Second, classifying each case by program type, information programs made up the highest portion at 82 cases (34.6%), cooking programs accounted for 76 cases (32.1%), news programs for 40 cases (16.9%), and entertainment programs for 7 cases (3.0%). The analysis showed that the greatest amount of incorrect information was found in dramas, followed by entertainment, information, cooking and news programs. Third, classifying each case by theme of contents monitored, meal preparation and cookery made up the highest portion at 86 cases (36.3%), foods accounted for 67 cases (28.3%), disease and diet-therapy for 40 cases (16.9%), eating habits for 31 cases (13.1%), and diet and fitness for 13 cases (5.5%). Incorrect information was conveyed most often on the themes of food habits, foods, disease and diet-therapy, cookery, and diet and fitness. Fourth, classifying each case by channel, Cable TV had the highest frequency at 72 cases (30.4%), MBC had 51 cases (21.5%), SBS had 43 cases (18.1%), KBS1 had 41 cases (17.3%) and KBS2 had 30 cases (12.7%). In conclusion, systematic monitoring should be continued to reduce the frequency of incorrect information being broadcast and to help ensure that accurate information is conveyed to the general public. Moreover, there should be a system of cooperation to provide information to help broadcast production teams establish a strategic program. Finally, it is essential to organize an advisory team by promoting links between the mass media and specialists in the field, and to develop an educational program on nutrition to help ensure the communication of accurate information on food and nutrition. • User adaptive reception of broadcast programs includes the functionality such as the user adaptive filtering and browsing functionality. The user adaptive filtering means that the user can limit the list of programs to include only his/her favorite programs among hundreds of available programs. The user adaptive browsing means that the user can view a short summary of his/her selection in the way that he/she prefers. When the receiving system include the random access storage device, the automatic recording functionality of users favorite programs can be included. The user adaptive reception requires support from various meta-data such as user preference data and content description data. TV Anytime forum is a standardization effort to enable user adaptive TV reception, which means that the user can watch what s/he wants when s/he want in the way s/he wants. MPEG-7 includes not only the content description for broadcast applications but also other content descriptions such as structure information. This paper addresses the relationship between MPEG-7 and TV Anytime and investigates how MPEG-7 should be designed and be used to satisfy the requirements of the user adaptive reception of broadcast program.

  • The purpose of this study is to clarify the meaning and characteristics of re-organized shortform contents, which is centered on media companies to edit and service existing broadcast content. For this, KBS, MBC, SBS, JTBC, and tvN's entire drama videos and representative entertainment programs opened on the Naver TV platform from 2014 to 2021 were selected for analysis and a synchronic and diachronic approach was conducted at the same time. As a result of the analysis, quantitative and qualitative expansion was made, with the number and form of videos provided by both dramas and entertainment programs diversifying from a synchronic approach. In particular, in the case of special videos, the meaning as independent content was also strengthened, such as sequencing centered on characters, themes, and materials. It was confirmed that thumbnails and titles were also formalized as tags as paratexts that act as curation for searches. From a diachronic point of view, it was found that re-organized shortform contents is considered to be character-oriented contents and independent viewing context through comparison with real-time views and original videos. This study is significant as an attempt to capture the meaning and phase change of shortform contents, which was considered incidental.

  • The development of the latest media technology has changed the traditional broadcasting system. The traditional broadcasting system, which was operated by the mass media and the terrestrial broadcasters, is now transformed to the viewer-centered and bidirectional media through the convergence of internet and mobile. In terms of broadcasting environment, the function of the traditional TVs has been changed to the Smart TVs combined with an open platform which not only deliver visual contents, but also supply various applications and additional information linking the content providers and viewers. This ongoing broadcasting environmental change has made it possible for viewers to participate in the programs such as reality shows or sports events through SNS, texting or phone calls. Therefore, the purpose of this experiment is to present the ways to promote easier and more convenient viewer-participation in the programs by applying mobile messenger to existing broadcasting system in order to enhance the involvement of broadcasters and viewers of the programs and to diversify the roles of content providers and viewers in broadcasting.

  • Places exposed to mass media induce behavior by forming curiosity and expectations for potential travelers. The places reported through mass media influence viewers. Among TV programs, the most influential genre is drama, and reality programs that provide immersion with different characteristics from dramas influence viewers' choice of destination. CVM is mainly used for estimating the value of objects that cannot be evaluated in the market, such as tourist destinations. This study conducted an economic valuation of filming locations for dramas and travel entertainment programs using CVM, and then compared and analyzed the research results of the two filming locations. Linear and log logit analysis were performed to measure the willingness to pay for the filming location of the drama/travel entertainment program, and the payment amount was derived. The conclusion of the study is that as the travel cost required to visit the filming location of the drama/travel entertainment program increased, the intention to visit decreased. The amount payable when visiting the filming location of the drama/travel entertainment program was higher than the average consumption amount for a day trip, and the amount payable for the drama was higher than that of visiting the filming location of the travel entertainment program.

  • Although researchers have proposed various recommendation systems, most recommendation approaches are for single users and there are only a small number of recommendation approaches for groups. However, TV programs or movies are most often viewed by groups rather than by single users. Most recommendation approaches for groups assume that single users' profiles are known and that group profiles consist of the single users' profiles. However, because it is difficult to obtain group profiles, researchers have only used synthetic or limited datasets. In this paper, we report on various group recommendation approaches to a real large-scale dataset in a TV domain, and evaluate the various group recommendation approaches. In addition, we provide some guidelines for group recommendation systems, focusing on home group users in a TV domain.

  • TV animation has come a long way to this date since popular animation programs were aired on TV, such as 'Run Little Tiger', 'Run Honey', 'Hurry-Scurry Yeongsimi', beginning with 'Wandering Magpie' on KBS in 1978. However, problematic production process has resulted in the degradation of quality. Consequently, the dwindling viewing rate forced animation advertisers to leave, and the animation production shrank. Under those unfavorable circumstances, the government started to heed messages transmitted from animation producers and went ahead with the 'animation broadcasting quota' in a bid to help revitalize Korean animation industry. This study aimed to identify problems and set the direction for the animation industry by analyzing its fundamental and structural problems.
