  • In this paper, we have mathematically analyzed lumped element type negative group delay circuit (NGDC) and derived general design equation. The applicability of the proposed design equation is validated with mathematical and circuit simulation as well as with experimental results for intentional mobile telecommunication 2000 (IMT-2000) downlink band. As a design example, single branch NGDC with -0.8ns of group delay (GD) for narrow bandwidth of the specific frequency is simulated and fabricated. Finally, $\pi$-network NGDC is proposed and validated to obtain wideband GD response of $-1.7{\pm}0.06$ nsec for 60 MHz.

  • In this paper, high-speed Hybrid MAC (Medium Access Control layer) implementation suitable for smart grid applications is researched. MB-OFDM (Multi-Band Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) is considered for high-speed communication method in smart grid application. In this paper, the MAC adopts the distributed network managing method. Also, the MB-OFDM merit of high-speed transfer rate of up to 480Mbps must be supported. Hence, this paper presents an efficient hardware-software integration (co-design) method in order to realize a high- speed transmission, and a realizing method of distribution network. Finally, MAC performance and reliability based on MB-OFDM PHY (PHYsical layer) are confirmed through simulation and emulation.

  • This paper presents a LTCC Balun-BPF, which is a BPF(bandpass filter) with a Balun in a single LTCC chip for the direct interface with a MIC chip having balanced inputs. The physical dimension of the designed Balun-BPE is $2.4{\times}2.0{\times}0.88m^3$ and the used dielectric constant ${\varepsilon}_r$ is 36. A Balun of three-lines structure with striplines and a BPF of comb-line structure was combined into the Balun-BPF. The simulated result shows 4.8dB of insertion loss, $178{\sim}179$ degree of the phase imbalance, 14dB of the return

  • In this paper, we propose ATM switch structure including AAL type 2 switch which can efficiently transmit low-bit rate data, even if the network has many endpoints. We simulate the architecture of ATM switch fabric that is modeled in computer program and analyze the performance according to offered loads. ATM switch proposed in this paper can support cell switching for all types of AAL cells which consist of AAL type 1, AAL type 2, AAL type 3/4, and AAL type 5 cells. We propose two switch fabric methods; One supports the AAL type 2 cell processing per input port, the other global AAL type 2 cell processing for every input port. The simulation results show that the latter is superior to the former. But the former has a strong point for easy implementation and extensibility. The proposed ATM switch fabric architecture is applicable to mobile communication, narrow band services over ATM network.

  • Many recent events, such as terrorist attacks, exposed defects in most sophisticated security systems. Therefore, it is necessary to improve security data systems based on the body or behavioral characteristics, often called biometrics. Together with the growing interest in the development of human and computer interface and biometric identification, human face recognition has become an active research area. Face recognition appears to offer several advantages over other biometric methods. Nowadays, Principal Component Analysis (PCA) has been widely adopted for the face recognition algorithm. Yet still, PCA has limitations such as poor discriminatory power and large computational load. This paper proposes a novel algorithm for face recognition using a mid band frequency component of partial information which is used for PCA representation. Because the human face has even symmetry, half of a face is sufficient for face recognition. This partial information saves storage and computation time. In comparison with the traditional use of PCA, the proposed method gives better recognition accuracy and discriminatory power. Furthermore, the proposed method reduces the computational load and storage significantly.

  • The modulation quality of the I/Q modulator in a wireless transmitter usually affects system performance and it mostly depends on both a nonlinearity and a distortion, from the third order intermodulation($IM_3$) signal and the error components such as an input amplitude error and a local phase error, respectively. This paper focused on how much the Single Sideband Ratio(SSR), which indicates the signal distortion, changes according to the variation of the error components. Consequently, since a desired signal, side band signal at the I/Q modulator output are also represented with those power series coefficients and the error components, the effects of the error components on SSR to meet the EVM specification of the WPAN can be clearly analyzed.

  • In this paper we propose a lock-in detection method for portable sensor systems and demonstrate with the portable detection module that has high sensitivity and robustness against the noise. The simple portable sensor module is manufactured using MCU(Micro Contorl Unit), OPAMP, MOSFET and a pair of infrared sensor. Manufactured sensor module is testified in the noisy environment caused by an external light and an white noise source. Without any type of band pass filters, we recover a signal of 33 $mV_{p-p}$ in 80 $mV_{p-p}$ white noise and get the DR(Dynamic Reserve) of 14 dB.

  • Cyclic Delay Diversity (CDD) is a diversity scheme used in OFDM-based telecommunication systems, transforming spatial diversity into frequency diversity and thus avoiding intersymbol interference without entailing the receiver to be aware of the transmission strategy making the signal more reliable achieving full diversity gain in cooperative systems. Here the analyzation of the influence of CDD-SC scheme in Cognitive Radio Network (CRN) is done with the challenge of overcoming the complication called channel estimation along with overhead in CNR. More specifically, the closed-form expressions for outage probability and symbol error rate are divided under different frequencies among independent and identically distributed (i.i.d.) frequency selective fading channel model i.e., the signal is divided into different frequencies and transmitted among several narrow band channels of different characteristics. It is useful in the reduction of interference and crosstalk. The results reveal the diversity order of the proposed system to be mainly affected by the number of multipath components that are available in the CNR.
