  • Recently, from the viewpoint of global wanning, natural gas CO2 is considered as a main refrigerant for hot water system. The characteristics of CO2 is not toxic, not flammable, high pressure, and high refrigerating capacity. Also it is widely available as a byproduct of industrial processes. This paper describes the performance analysis program of the swash plate type compressor using CO2 refrigerant. Estimates of the refrigerant flow rate, compression work, discharge temperature and volumetric, compressor efficiencies of the CO2 swash plate type compressor are obtained from the various design parameter such as the inclination angle of the swash plate, discharge hole area and suction hole area.

  • Because paper industry spends lots amount of water, the recycling of water is very important in economical as well as environmental aspects. In order to optimize the process water recycling system, the efficiency of unit operation for water circulation, such as save-all system, CDS and settling tank, plays an important role in. In this study, the sedimentation efficiency of process water was evaluated by SS measurement with the different amounts of flocculent addition. 3 different kinds of process water were collected from fine paper mill, and applied in laboratory sedimentation equipment for the measurement of settling efficiency of SS materials. The addition amounts of alum and PAC were resulted in optimum efficiency of sediments in the condition of 100 ppm of alum and 500 ppm of PAC respectively. In the comparison of sedimentation efficiency between alum and PAC, alum showed more economical and efficient results. The SS of spill water and the particle size of suspended materials treated by alum flocculents were below 50 ppm and about 1 $\mu$m. It would be considered that the spill water can be substituted to superclear water grade.

  • This paper examines the levels and influence factors on efficiency of public libraries in metropolitan cities. For this purpose, In the first stage, the efficiency score analysis of 129 sample public libraries has been undertaken. In the second stage, the efficiency scores obtained from the first stage are regressed on environmental factors. The result of this study shows that : (1) main source of technical inefficiency is pure technical inefficiency rather than scale inefficiency; (2) it is positive effect environmental factors on the efficiency that the population, the dummy variable of capital area.

  • This study empirically analyze efficiency and productivity changes of public hospitals of Korea using data envelopment analysis/Window model and global Malmquist indices model. We use the ten-year data from 2001 to 2010 of 30 regional public hospitals listed database from the Association of Korean Regional Public Hospitals. The main focuses are to reveal whether the technical inefficiency are improved as time goes by, and efficiency and productivity are affected by environmental factors. The results can be summarized as follows. First, the efficiencies of public hospitals rise in trend as time passes. Second, regional public hospitals show the different average efficiencies according to their regional type, hospital type, operational type, medicaid type, and demand and supply conditions by Mann-Whitney U-tests. Third, technical efficiency changes mainly contribute to 4.4% annual average growth rate of productivity of regional public hospitals during that period. Our findings have some policy implications. It is confirmed that there exist some environmental inefficiencies, and those inefficiencies can not be overcome through just improving the inner management system. Thus, policy and institutional changes are necessary for regional public hospitals to improve efficiency and productivity overall.

  • This study addresses the challenge of objectively evaluating the performance of early-stage startups amidst limited information and uncertainty. Focusing on companies selected by TIPS, a leading private sector-driven startup support policy in Korea, the research develops a new indicator to assess technological efficiency. By analyzing various input and output variables collected from Crunchbase and KIND (Korea Investor's Network for Disclosure System) databases, including technology use metrics, patents, and Crunchbase rankings, the study derives technological efficiency for TIPS-selected startups. A prediction model is then developed utilizing machine learning techniques such as Random Forest and boosting (XGBoost) to classify startups into efficiency percentiles (10th, 30th, and 50th). The results indicate that prediction accuracy improves with higher percentiles based on the technical efficiency index, providing valuable insights for evaluating and predicting startup performance in early markets characterized by information scarcity and uncertainty. Future research directions should focus on assessing growth potential and sustainability using the developed classification and prediction models, aiding investors in making data-driven investment decisions and contributing to the development of the early startup ecosystem.

  • The purpose of this study is to evaluate the operational efficiency of Chinese e-commerce companies and to present measures to improve efficiency. This paper selected 16 enterprises as the research objects, from the e-commerce demonstration enterprises of the Ministry of Commerce of China in 2017-2018, to conduct an empirical study on the operating efficiency of e-commerce enterprises. By using DEA method, we selected 3 input and 2 output indicators to measure the input-output efficiency of enterprises from input-oriented. Using different model in DEA, we calculated the technical efficiency, pure technical efficiency and scale efficiency, also efficiency based on the sample of 2018 and horizontal analysis from 2016 to 2018. The analysis showed that the overall efficiency of Chinese e-commerce companies was continuously improving, and that their business capabilities and business scale were also gradually improving. Through the calculation of efficiency, we evaluated the competitiveness of the e-commerce demonstration enterprises, and explored measures to improve their management efficiency. At the same time, it put forward some reasonable suggestions to adjust the scale, and enhance the competitive advantage.

  • Recently, the generators for wind turbine have been manufactured with high output power such like MW class machine in order to reduce the generation cost and to increase the energy efficiency. At the same time, direct-driven generators for wind turbine have been developed and researched, which have easy maintenance and high efficiency by simplification the system through the removal of the gear box. In this paper, at first, the advantage and disadvantage between the direct-driven generator system and conventional indirect-driven system are compared. And secondly, the permanent magnet generator (PMG) for wind turbine has been rapidly improved to cope with the recent trend which requires the high power output Per one machine and the convenience for maintenance, and the PMG is adequate for direct driven system and suitable for high-efficiency and light weight. So, the characteristics and technical trend of the PMG for wind turbine is examined. At last, a suitable technical trend for development of the permanent magnet generator for wind turbine is proposed.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate empirical evidences of productivity of life insurance institutions in Malaysia. Therefore, this study attempts to explore the productivity of the life insurance institutions in Malaysia. The overall findings show that the total factor productivity (TFP) has progressed by 2.5% per year during the study period from 2012 to 2016 in the Malaysian insurance industry. However, TFP change has declined from 2012 to 2015 and observed a negative growth in 2015-16 (3.3%). The highest productivity progress was documented during 2012-13 at a rate of 11.7% while the minimum productivity progress was during 2014-15 (only 0.2%). The results also indicate that the decomposition of TFP found that overall progress could mainly be attributed to technological change (TC). However, technical efficiency change (TEC) and pure technical efficiency change (PTE) have negative impact on TFP. The findings also show that most of the insurance companies have a steady growth. Therefore, this study will contribute new insights for the policy makers and insurance institutions to take appropriate steps in developing relevant policies for increasing productivity of insurance institutions in Malaysia.
