  • Based on the taxonomic survey to uncover the ciliate diversity in the eastern Kangwon-province, twenty-six species were identified from moss-covered soils and assigned to 5 classes, 9 orders, 12 families, and 15 genera. Of these, fifteen species are first records from Korea, and brief remarks with photographs were provided.

  • As a result of a taxonomic review of the tachinid genus Trigonospila Porkorny in Korea, we recognized two species: T. ludio (Zetterstedt) and T. transvittata (Pandell$\acute{e}$). The former species is reported for the first time in Korea. We here provide a key to the Korean species, redescriptions, photographs and illustrations.

  • A taxonomic study on the genus Tropocyclops has been accomplished as a part of the series of studies on the freshwater cyclopoid copepods in South Korea. As a result, the Tropocyclops prasinus, hitherto known from Korea in many reports and papers, turns out to be a species complex of three sibling species: T. prasinus (Fischer, 1860), T. ishidai n. sp., and T. setulifer n. sp. This paper deals with description of two of these new species with taxonomic accounts on their inter- or intraspecific morphological discrepancies.

  • Through taxonomic survey of specimens collected from the coasts of Korea from 1993 to 2006, Dimorphostylis echinata $Gam{\hat{o}}$, 1962 is new to Korean cumacean fauna. Especially, the adult male and female of D. echinata are described for the first time. Dimorphostylis sculpturensis Vassilenko and Tzareva, 1990 is proposed as a synonym of D. acroplicata Harada, 1960 in this research. Also, its female is redescribed for the first time in Korea.

  • Recent molecular and polyphasic taxonomic approaches toward bacterial systematics have played a significant role in revolutionizing our insight in the taxonomy of bacterial organisms. This advance has also contributed greatly to delineation of new taxa from bacterial organisms isolated from a variety of natural sources of Korea. Recently, many bacterial organisms have isolated from soil, seawater, foods, wastewaters and humans of Korea and have been subjected to polyphasic taxonomic study. From the results of this study, some isolates have been found to be members of new genera and new species.

  • Lynceid conchostracans of the order Laevicaudata in East Asia are reviewed. Validity of the three older species, Lynceus mandsuricus Daday, Lynceus biformis (Ishikawa), and Lynceus dauricus Thiele, is examined and discussed. Two species among them were acknowledged but L. dauricus was synonymized to L. biformis and redescribed and illustrated in the present paper, based on the materials collected from the rice-fields at 15 localities in Korea.

  • Structuer, ontogeny, classification and taxonomic significance of trichomes have been studied in 39 genera and 125 species of the selected families in Malvales. They were studied on both vegetative and floral organs. There are nine types of eglandular and eight of glandular trichomes. The trichomes were classified on the basis of their form, structure and contents. All of them originated from a single papillate hair initial. According to the trichome data, the Malvales was comfirmed as a natural order with 5 homogenous families: Malvaceae, Bombacaceae, Sterculiaceae, Tiliaceae, and Elaeocarpaceae.

  • Eight species of Marssonina parasitic on 21 species of host plants from Korea are described and illustrated. They are Marssonina brunnea (Ellis & Everh.) Magnus, M. capsulicola (Rostr.) Magnus, M. celastri H.D. Shin & H.T. Lee, M. coronaria (Ellis & Davis) Davis, M. fragariae (Lib.) Kleb., M. juglandis (Lib.) Magnus, M. rosae (Lib.) Died. and M. sennenis (Gonz. Frag.) Vassiljevsky & Karak. Of these, M. capsulicola and M. coronaria sometimes poss three-celled conidia and M. sennenis is characterized by a short appendage at the basal end of the conidia. Morphological features of conidia and host ranges were of taxonomic values for species delimitation.

  • Eight species of the family Bithyniidae, Bithynia tentaculata, B. leachi, B. siaminsis, B manchourica, B misella, B. kiusiuensis, Gabbia australis and a Bithynia wp. collected from Nepal, were studied for their relationship between species. Total 20 characters were employed for the principal component analysis(PCA) and taxonomic distance. G. misella and B. kiusiuensis were closely related and similar to G. australis. B. manchourica, B. tentaculata and B. siamensis relatively closed group, and taxonomic distance of B. leachi was far from the other species.
