The Effects of Task Oriented Circuit Exercise on Balance and Cognition in Mild Dementia Patients (순환식 과제 지향 운동이 경증치매환자의 균형능력과 인지기능에 미치는 영향)

  • PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of task oriented circuit exercise(TOCE) on the balance and cognition in mild dementia patients. METHODS: The subjects of the study were 30 patients with mild dementia and assigned to the TOCE(task oriented circuit exercise) group(n=15) and aerobic exercise(AE) group(n=15). TOCE group performed six task three times weekly for 12 weeks. AE group underwent the cycle ergometer and treadmill exercise three times a week during the experimental period respectively. Timed up and go test(TUG), Berg balance scale(BBS) and AP1153 Biorescue were used to assess the parameters for the balance. Korean-mini mental state examination and Global deterioration scale(GDS) were used to assess the parameters for the cognition. For the statistical analysis, paired t-test and independent t-test were used to compare the differences among two groups. RESULTS: Each group showed improvement in balance and possibility for improving cognitive function. TOCE group especially, there were significant improvements in limit of stability. CONCLUSION: The results of the study suggest that TOCE is a more diverse exercise programs introduced in the study. Furthermore, TOCE can be a helpful to improve the balance and cognition in mild dementia patients.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of a task oriented circuit exercise in upper extremity function and self-efficacy in stroke patients. An experimental group of 14 patients was assigned to conduct a task oriented circuit exercise and the general task oriented exercise a control group of 14 patients was randomly assigned to exercise for 30 minutes 5 times every week during 4 weeks. Fugl-Meyer Assessment and Self-Efficacy Scale were evaluated to compare the upper extremity function and self-efficacy before and after the exercise. The result of this study were as follows : First, after the Task oriented circuit exercise, the upper extremity function and Self-Efficacy showed statistical significant difference between pre and post test. Second, after the general task oriented exercise, the upper extremity function showed statistical significant difference between pre and post test. But not much in Self-Efficacy. The comparison result between experimental group and control group in presented statistically significant differences where the upper extremity function. But, presented not statistically significant differences where Self-Efficacy Scale.

Effects of Task-Oriented Circuit Class Training on Improves Performance of Locomotor in Disabled Persons after Stroke (과제-지향 순회 훈련이 뇌졸중 장애인의 이동 능력에 미치는 효과)

  • Purpose : The purpose of this study was to identify the effects of circuit class training on the performance of locomotor tasks in chronic stroke. Methods : The study included 45 patients with chronic stroke randomly divided into experimetal group and control group. Both groups participated in exercise classes three times a week for 8weeks. The experimental group had 10 workstation of circuit class designed to improve walking. The control group practiced fitness exercises by equipment in health center. Walking performance was assessed by measuring walking speed(timed 10-meter walk and TUG), GAITRite analysis and peak vertical ground reaction force through the affected foot during walking. Results : The experimental group demonstrated significant improvement(p<.05) compared with the control group in 10-meter walking and vertical ground reaction force after training. The experimental group showed significant improvements in the walking velocity and cadence by GAITRite system(p<.05). Conclusion : Task- oriented circuit class training leads to improvements in locomotor function in chronic stroke. Further studies are necessary to occur in usual environments to improve walking performance.
