Establishment of Target Water Quality for TOC of Total Water Load Management System (오염총량관리제도의 TOC 목표수질 설정 방안)

  • In this study, it was proposed that a method of setting the target water quality for TOC using the watershed model and the load duration curves to manage non-biodegradable organics in the total water load management system. To simulate runoff and water quality of the watershed, the HSPF model is used which is appropriate for urban and rural areas. Additionally, the load duration curve is used to reflect the variable water quality correlated with various river flow rates in preparing the TMDL plans in the U.S. First, the model was constructed by inputting the loads calculated from the pollutant sources in 2015. After the calibration and verification process, the water quality by flow conditions was analyzed from the BOD and TOC simulation results. When the BOD achieved the target water quality by inputting the target year loads for 2020, the median and average values of TOC were proposed for the target water quality. The provisional method of TOC target water quality for the management of non-biodegradable organics, which is one of the challenges of the total water load management system, was considered. In the future, it is expected to be used as basic data for the conversion of BOD into TOC in the total water load management system.

  • This study proposes an innovative measure for evaluating the performance of text clustering. In using K-means algorithm and Kohonen Networks for text clustering, the number clusters is fixed initially by configuring it as their parameter, while in using single pass algorithm for text clustering, the number of clusters is not predictable. Using labeled documents, the result of text clustering using K-means algorithm or Kohonen Network is able to be evaluated by setting the number of clusters as the number of the given target categories, mapping each cluster to a target category, and using the evaluation measures of text. But in using single pass algorithm, if the number of clusters is different from the number of target categories, such measures are useless for evaluating the result of text clustering. This study proposes an evaluation measure of text clustering based on intra-cluster similarity and inter-cluster similarity, what is called CI (Clustering Index) in this article.

  • In order to scheme the optimal assumption that satisfies the travel demand, it should be review the elements that affect on determining the headway, which are signal systems, line shape, vehicle(Light Rail Transit) performance, and so on. When applying the conventional signal systems, including Fixed Block System and Moving Block System, It was confirmed whether or not satisfy the requirements of target line with the way of a numerical formula reviewing and Train performance Simulation on the main line, station, depot, and so forth. Therefore, it should be used as references that decide target line and each sub-system after identifying the compliances for Minimum Headway to Moving Block System.

A Study on the Goal Setting Method for Increasing the Holed Probability in Slope Putting Stroke on an Artificial Putting Surface

  • Objective: The purpose of this study was to develop a goal setting method for increasing the probability of a holed in a side inclined putting stroke. Method: Three-dimensional video data was recorded at a frequency of 120 hz per second after synchronizing 19 infrared motion capture systems (Qualisys, Gothenburg, Sweden). Putting green used a polycarbonate plate ($1.2{\times}2.4{\times}0.01meter$) with coefficient of friction (${\mu}=0.062$) and a real curve of the actual hole. Results: The velocity ratio between the club and the ball was 1:1.6 under various ball speed conditions in this study. The overall position of the break is 1 m to 1.4 m from the point where the ball leaves. If there is a slope, the ball follows the target line by the straightening force, and when it reaches 1 m position, the straightening force decreases by 30~50% and reaches to the deviation (break) point which is severely influenced by the slope. From here, the ball is aimed in a direction other than the target, and the size is affected by the slope. Conclusion: If there is a side slope, the ball moves away from the straight line, and the larger the slope, the closer the break point is to the starting point of the ball. Therefore, it is necessary to calculate the degree of departure according to the slope carefully, and it is preferable that the slower the speed is, the more the influence of the slope becomes. It is preferable to use the center of the hole as a reference when calculating the departure.

Setting an Initial Validation Gate based on Signal Intensity for Target Tracking in IR Image Sequences (적외선 영상에서 표적 추적을 위한 신호세기 기반 초기 유효게이트 설정 방법)

  • This paper describes a method to set an intensity-based initial validation gate for tracking filter while preserves the ability of tracking a target with maximum speed. First, we collected real data set of signal versus distance of an airplane target. And at each data point, we computed maximum distance the target can move. And a function is modeled to expect the maximum moving pixels on the lateral direction based on the intensity of the detected target in IR image sequence. The initial prediction error covariance can be computed using this function to decide the size of the initial validation gate. The simulation results show the proposed method can set the appropriate initial validation gates to track the targets with the maximum speed.

Directions for and Challenges in Health Promotion Research: Focusing on Research Funded by the Korean Health Promotion Foundation, 2005-2011 (건강증진 연구의 방향과 과제: 한국건강증진재단 연구과제(2005-2011년)를 중심으로)

  • Objective: This paper aims to describe health promotion (HP) research according to HP activities, strategies, target population, and settings, and to explore challenges for HP to reflect principles and values. Methods: A content analysis was employed for all research reports funded by the Korea Health Promotion Foundation from 2005 to 2011. Content analysis was conducted according to the HP activities and strategies as mentioned in the Ottawa Charter, and by target population and setting. Challenges for HP research were explored by priority actions suggested by the International Union for Health Promotion and Education. Results: The total number of research was 384. The most popular topic was on HP actions for reorienting health services, followed by developing personal skills, creating supportive environments, building healthy public policy, and strengthening community actions. Research focusing on enabling strategies was most dominant among the HP strategies, while both advocating and mediating strategies were unlikely to be studied. An even distribution was found across target populations. The most popular setting was communities, followed by workplaces and schools. Conclusion: HP research tends to be anchored on bio-medical, individualized, and behavioral perspectives. A discussion was made to overcome this tendency by employing HP in social sciences theory and methods.

Hangul Font Editor based on Multiple Master Glyph Algorithm (다중 마스터 글리프 알고리즘을 적용한 한글 글꼴 에디터)

  • Thousands of glyphs are necessary for Hangul font generation. It is mandatory to generate the required glyphs before producing Hangul font. This paper, entitled "Multiple Master Glyph Algorithm", presents an process that generates a target number of glyphs automatically from a very small number of glyphs by using a combination rule setting and a glyph interpolation method. A font editor, which is able to generate Hangul glyphs or fonts, is developed based on this algorithm. The editor generates a target number of fundamental glyphs automatically by using a combination rule setting and four master glyphs, which can be set up by a user. The automatically generated glyphs can be used to generate a target font by combining KSX1001 standard Hangul 2350 characters or Unicode standard Hangul 11172 characters automatically. The efficiency of the proposed Hangul editor is analyzed quantitatively in this paper through application to several commercial typefaces.

  • When a Japanese learner in Korea tries to find Japanese dictionary, he must know the pronunciation of the target word. But it's not easy to know the pronunciation of target word from Japanese sentence. Because most of general Japanese sentence shows only HanJa(Chinese character) instead of Kana(Japanese alphabet). If the Japanese learner knows the Korean traditional pronunciation of the target word, he can input the word to electronic Japanese dictionary with the Korean pronunciation. For this solution, the dictionary service provider must convert the Japanese word to Korean pronunciation, in advance. After setting of the conversions as a additional searching process, we can find the target word through Korean pronunciation of the Japanese HanJa, This process is possible for the three reasons below, 1. Korean, Japanese and Chinese are using the nearly same HanJa. The difference is small. 2. Most Japanese learner in Korea, knows the Korean pronunciation of the HanJa. 3. The Korean pronunciation of the HanJa is nearly unique, a HanJa has a Korean pronunciation, generally.

  • The estimation method of economical leakage management target utilized upon planning business for improvement of revenue water ratio in South Korea is presented and applicability of methods developed in this study is assessed through application on site. With a consideration of revenue water ratio in application target area, estimation method of long-term economical leakage management target is applied. Three leakage reduction methods such as replacement of residual aged pipe, leakage investigation and restoration and water pressure management are applied with a consideration of characteristics of site. Due to difficulty of obtaining data, analysis of cost/benefit by leakage reduction methods is performed by applying method of leakages estimation equation among statistical methods. As a result of application, revenue water ratio corresponding to long-term economical leakage management target is 91.6 %.

A Study on the Quantitative Prediction Model for Setting the Target Value of Service Availability for a LRT Line (경전철 노선의 서비스가용도 목표값 설정을 위한 정량적 예측모델에 관한 연구)

  • The Service Availability (SA) in the viewpoint of passenger is used as the key performance indicator (KPI) of quality of service in Light Rail Transit (LRT) Public-Private Partnerships projects. But there are many disputes on the target value of SA because of the lack of experience in SA. The target value of SA should be set at an early stage of the project to be specified on the system specifications and operation plan. Therefore, this paper developed the quantitative prediction model of SA to set the reasonably achievable target value of SA at an early stage of the LRT project. Also this paper analyzed the relationship and differentiation of SA and Train Punctuality (TP) that is mostly compared with SA.
