  • In this paper, we propose the target tracking system using fuzzy basis function expansion (FBFN) based on genetic algorithm (GA). In general, the objective of target tracking is to predict the future trajectory of the target based on the past position of the target obtained from the sensor. In the conventional and mathematical method, the parameter uncertainty and the environmental noise may deteriorate the performance of the system. To resolve these problems, we apply artificial intelligent technique to the tracking control of moving targets. The proposed method combines the advantages of both traditional and intelligent technique. The result of numerical simulation shows the effectiveness of the proposed method.

  • When tracking small UAVs and drone targets in cloud clutter environments, MWIR sensors are often unable to track targets continuously. To overcome this problem, the SWIR sensor is mounted on the same gimbal. Target tracking uses sensor information fusion or selectively applies information from each sensor. In this case, parallax correction using the target distance is often used. However, it is difficult to apply the existing method to small UAVs and drone targets because the laser rangefinder's beam divergence angle is small, making it difficult to measure the distance. We propose a tracking method which needs not parallax correction of sensors. In the method, images from MWIR and SWIR sensors are captured simultaneously and a tracking error for gimbal driving is chosen by effectiveness measure. In order to prove the method, tracking performance was demonstrated for UAVs and drone targets in the real sky background using MWIR and SWIR image sensors.

  • Conventional target tracking algorithms based on the linear estimation techniques perform quite efficiently when the target motion does not involve maneuvers. Target maneuvers involving short term accelerations, however, cause a bias in the measurement sequence. Accurate compensation for the bias requires processing more samples of which adds to the computational complexity. The primary motivation for employing a neural network for this task comes from the efficiency with which more features can be as inputs for bias compensation. A system architecture that efficiently integrates the fusion capabilities of a trained multilayer neural net with the tracking performance of a Kalman filter is described. The parallel processing capability of a properly trained neural network can permit fast processing of features to yield correct acceleration estimates and hence can take the burden off the primary Kalman filter which still provides the target position and velocity estimates.

  • A new automatic small target detection and tracking algorithm for the real-time IR surveillance system is presented. The automatic target detection and tracking algorithm of the real-time systems, requires low complexity and robust tracking performance in the cluttered environment. Linear-array and parallel-scan IR systems usually suffer from severe scan noise caused by the detector non-uniformity. After the spatial filtering and thresholding, this scan noise still remains as high amplitude clutter which degrades the target detection rate and tracking performance. In this paper, we propose a new feature which consists of area and validity information of a measurement. By adopting this feature to the measurements selection and track confirmation, we can increase the target detection rate and reduce both the track loss rate and false track rate. From the experimental results, we can validate the feasibility of the proposed method in the noisy IR images.

  • An intelligent Kalman filter (IKF) is proposed for tracking an incoming anti-ship missile. In the proposed IKF, the unknown target acceleration is regarded as an additive process noise. When the target maneuver is occurred, the residual of the Kalman filter increases in proportion to its magnitude. From this fact, the overall process noise variance can be approximated from the filter residual and its variation at every sampling time. A fuzzy system is utilized to approximate this valiance, and the genetic algorithm (GA) is applied to optimize the fuzzy system. In computer simulations, the tracking performance of the proposed IKF is compared with those of conventional maneuvering target tracking methods.

  • Recently, Optical BJTC as a new approach for real-time multi-target tracking has been intensively studied. But the conventional system has some problems in the practical applications such as the false alarm and target missing and low correlation efficiency, and these poor performances are analyzed to be deeply dependent on the binarization method. So, in this paper, a new BJTC system which has the improved performances in target discrimination and diffraction efficiency is suggested, which is based on the JTPS having the same properties with those of the matched filter and new power spectrum binarization method to use effectively the high frequency components of the JTPS signal. Through the computer simulation and some experiments, the performances of the new BJTC tracking system are analyzed and proved to be superior to those of the conventional system baseds on Median method in multi- target tracking problems.

  • In a conventional camera system, a target tracking system consists of a camera part and a image processing part. However, in the field of the real time image processing, the vision chip for edge detection which was made by imitating the algorithm of humanis retina is superior to the conventional digital image processing systems because the human retina uses the parallel information processing method. In this paper, we present a high speed target tracking system using the function of the CMOS vision chip for edge detection.

  • In this paper, a new 3D object tracking system using the disparity motion vector (DMV) is presented. In the proposed method, the time-sequential disparity maps are extracted from the sequence of the stereo input image pairs and these disparity maps are used to sequentially estimate the DMV defined as a disparity difference between two consecutive disparity maps Similarly to motion vectors in the conventional video signals, the DMV provides us with motion information of a moving target by showing a relatively large change in the disparity values in the target areas. Accordingly, this DMV helps detect the target area and its location coordinates. Based on these location data of a moving target, the pan/tilt embedded in the stereo camera system can be controlled and consequently achieve real-time stereo tracking of a moving target. From the results of experiments with 9 frames of the stereo image pairs having 256x256 pixels, it is shown that the proposed DMV-based stereo object tracking system can track the moving target with a relatively low error ratio of about 3.05 % on average.

  • Target Motion Analysis(TMA) for Passive Sonar Systems with bearing-only measurements needs to enhance system observability to improve target tracking performance by ownship maneuvering. However, tracking problem incurred by weak observaility result in slow convergence of the target estimates. On the other hand, active sonar systems do not have problem associated with system observaility. However, it drawback related to system survivability. In this paper, the algorithm that could be used in Active/passive Mixed-Mode Sonar Systems is proposed to analyze maneuvering target motion and to improve TMA performance. The proposed TMA algorithm is tested by a series of computer simulation runs and the results ...

  • Multi-target tracking systems need to tracking several targets simultaneously. To track a target among the measurements of several targets, data association is needed. In this paper, a method using the cou-pled confidence region of predicted target position is proposed. The proposed method shows good performance in simulations of multi-target tracking systems.
