Objective: This study is designed to examine how an application of a kinesio taping to the foot drop of a hemiplegic patient affects the functional recovery of a gait. Method: The patient was a man with left hemiplegia of about 11 months' duration. a single subject design (ABAB design) was used to investigate the timing difference at a stance phase between an unaffected side and an affected side in the gait ability of the hemiplegic patient by using the kinesio taping. The study was divided into four phase: an initial base-line, an experimental, a second base-line, and second experimental phase. Result: The timing difference at a stance phase between an unaffected side and an affected side in the gait was decreased in the case of the affected side by following the result of applying the kinesio taping to a lower extremity. Conclusion: The kinesio taping applied to the foot drop of a hemiplegic patient affects the improvement of the gait ability.
The purpose of this investigation is comparing two groups one applied with taping therapy the other with controlled causes variation in pain substances of blood ${\beta}$-endorphin, serotonin with taping therapy. 12 male students of S college divided into two groups each 6 experimental and controlled with no history of flexion and extention of lower extremity focused on knee joint. Experimental group applied with elastic taping before experiment at quadriceps, calf muscles, hamstrings and tibialis anterior, controlled group didn't applied any taping therapy. Bruce protocol of maximal progressive loading exercise implemented 5 minutes after blood samples were extracted. And 5 minutes after the exercise blood samples also were taken and made investigation. Data before and after investigation were operated on SPSS Ver. 12.0 for Window(Kor.). P value 0.05. The affirmative effects of this investigation was proved with increased ${\beta}$-endorphin and decreased serotonin that cause reducing pain.
Purpose: The objective of this study was to investigate the effects of Kinesio taping (KT) for balance and gait in patients with stroke through meta-analysis of studies conducted in Korea. Methods: RISS, Science on, and DBPia were the three databases used to collect articles on KT. Keywords such as "Stroke," "Kinesio taping," "Elasticity taping," and "Taping" were used to search for published articles. We systematically searched from the inception of each database to November 2020. Interventions and comparisons were KT and without KT. Outcome measures were the timed up and go (TUG) and 10-meter walking tests (10MWT). Consequently, six studies were selected for the second screening using meta-analyses. Results: Based on the results of the meta-analysis, comparison between patients with and without KT showed that KT was effective for TUG (ES: 2.51, 95% CI: 2.12 to 2.90); however, it was not effective for 10MWT (ES: 0.79, 95% CI: -0.04 to 1.62). Conclusion: The current evidence suggests that KT is more effective than without KT interventions for balance function in post-stroke patients. However, more well-conducted randomized controlled trials are required in the future.
Objective: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of combining Mulligan taping and flossing bands on lower limb muscle activity and static and dynamic balance. Design: A randomized controlled trial. Methods: Sixty-eight patients with chronic ankle instability were randomized into three groups that were treated with Mulligan taping (MT, n=22), flossing band (FB, n=23) and Mulligan taping combined with flossing band (MT+FB, n=23), and various parameters were compared before and after the intervention. The muscle activity of the lower extremities, including the tibialis anterior, peroneus longus and medial of gastrocnemius muscles was measured using BTS FREE EMG 1000, while the static and dynamic balance were measured using the Biorscuue balance measuring equipment. Results: There was a significant difference in muscle activity of the tibialis anterior muscle, before and after the intervention, in the MT group (p<0.01), FB (p<0.001) and MT+FB (p<0.001). There was also a significant difference in the muscle activity of the tibialis anterior muscle in the MT+FB group when compared with that in MT and FB groups (p<0.05). We also observed a significant difference in the dynamic balance all the groups (p<0.001). Conclusions: Therefore, combining Mulligan taping and flossing bands for patients with chronic ankle instability may improve dynamic balance and tibialis anterior muscle activity.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the forced vital capacity and sway area of respiratory muscles taping with threshold inspiratory muscles training for 1 week. Methods: Nineteen stroke patients were divided into two groups: experimental group (respiratory muscles taping with threshold inspiratory muscles training, n=10) and control group (threshold inspiratory muscles training, n=9). Forced vital capacity tests were performed using a spirometer. The instrument records the forced vital capacity (FVC). COP excursion test was performed using Zebris. The instrument records the sway area. All tests were measured before and after intervention. Results: The experimental group and control group showed significant increase in FVC (p<0.05). The sway area showed a significant decrease only in the experimental group (p<0.05). The FVC and sway area was no significant difference between the two groups (p>0.05). Conclusion: Threshold inspiratory muscles training is an effective intervention for improving FVC. Threshold inspiratory muscles training with respiratory taping is an effective intervention for improving FVC and sway area. Threshold inspiratory muscles training with respiratory taping can improve balance ability.
Purpose: This study was conducted to investigate the effects of kinesiotaping on the muscle activities in patients with degenerative arthritis. To evaluate the effects of taping therapy, we calculated activation of vastus medialis and vastus lateralis. Methods: 40 female patients with degenerative arthritis of knee joint were participated in this study. Muscle activation were assessed by using a surface EMG. This procedure was performed with and without taping. Results: The activation of vastus lateralis was significantly increased in comparison between pre and post test. And vastus medialis was significantly increased in comparison between pre and post test. Conclusion: We thought that kinesio taping have effectiveness on the muscle activation of vastus lateralis and vastus medialis in patients with degenerative arthritis.
Objective: The aim of this study is to evaluate the differences in electromyographic activities of upper extremity muscle between repeated taping and to compare the effects of each taping method in stroke patients. Background: Taping studies for functional improvement and pain relief of the UE have been conducted using various methods. Despite being an important factor when you treatment to a patient in a clinical attachment numbers situation quantitative research is that there is not at all to the taping at the time of application. Method: Twenty patients volunteered in this study and were tested under four taping conditions as follows, in random order: (1) no taping, (2) taping applied once, (3) taping applied twice, and (4) taping applied thrice. The muscle activity and maximum peak of the extensor carpi radialis muscle in electromyographic activities were measured, respectively. Results: The muscle activity and maximum peak of the extensor carpi radialis muscle showed significant differences among the four conditions (p<.05). In the post hoc test, the extensor muscle showed significant differences in muscle activity and maximum peak in electromyographic activities, except between taping applied twice and thrice. Conclusion: These findings demonstrate that repeated taping up to two times may be useful in improving the muscle activity and maximum peak of the extensor muscle. Application: This study provides useful information to future researchers regarding the effects of repeated taping applications on muscle activity and maximum peak of the muscles of the human body.

Purpose : This study was conducted to investigate the effect of muscle taping and joint taping on static and dynamic balance in normal adults with chronic ankle instability. Methods : The subjects of this study were 32 people who met the inclusion criteria. This cross-sectional study was conducted using the Kinesio tape, an elastic tape, was used. Subjects were randomized to exclude the effect of sequence, and no taping, joint taping, and muscle taping were applied as taping interventions. One-leg standing test and a Functional reach test were conducted to measure static balance, and Y-balance test was conducted to measure dynamic balance. One way repeated ANOVA was performed to investigate the difference in balance ability according to the taping intervention. If there was a significant difference, a post-hoc was performed using the Bonferroni method. Results : In the case of static balance, joint taping showed more significant results than did no taping and muscle taping (p<.05), and muscle taping showed more significant results than did no taping (p<.05). In the case of dynamic balance, muscle taping showed significantly larger results than did no taping and joint taping (p<.05) and joint taping showed significantly larger results than did no taping (p<.05). Conclusion : This study found that mechanical stimulation of muscles and joint compression by elastic taping increased ankle stability and improved static and dynamic balance. In particular, for static balance, joint taping was more effective than muscle taping, and for dynamic balance, muscle taping was more effective than joint taping. Applying the appropriate taping method to individual subjects has the advantage of maximizing the therapeutic effect for the recovery of balance ability. Similarly, the application of various tapings to subjects with ankle instability will have a positive effect on functional improvement.
Taping is used to restrict undesired, potentially harmful motion and allow desired motion. Taping refers to the application of some type of adhesive backed tape, that adheres to the skin of a particular joint or to a limb. Prevention and rehabilitation is two main indications for the use of taping techniques. The purpose of this study was to compare a tennis injury between taping and non-taping group. The objects of this study were 64 tennis club members-38 non-taping group, 26 taping group. The analysis methods were both frequency and paired T-test. The results are followings: 1. There was effective increase of taping group-elbow, wrist, knee, ankle-that showed significant increase on statistical analysis. (P<.05). 2. There was effective a relation of seasons and injured in taping group-elbow, wrist, ankle-(P<.05) 3. But non-significant statistically about injured seasons. Prophylactic taping has become one of the most common methods employed to prevent sports injuries, despite questions regarding its efficacy. The success of taping does not only depend upon the materials or methods used, but also upon the phychologic sedative effect of the athlete to be taped.

This study aims to examine the effect of patellar taping common to patients with patellofemoral pain syndrome on the change of knee joint location. The total number of participants is 12 patients with no pain in their knee. There are three different experiments: no-taping, placebo taping, and patellar taping. After application, they squat on their hams. As a result, both the muscle activity of vastus medialis and that of vastus lateralis increased in placebo taping compared to no-taping, which wasn't statistically significant. However, the muscle activity of vastus medialis and that of vastus lateralis decreased in patellar taping compared to no-taping, which was statistically significant. This suggests that patellar taping causing the lateral attraction of knee joint is more influential to the dynamics of knee joint than skin afferent input in placebo taping. Therefore, patellar taping is effective to change the location of knee joint, affect the muscle activity of quadriceps muscle of thigh, and thus correct the misalignments of the knee joint.
