The design method to calculate the main features of propellant tank pressurization system during the development procedure of propellant feed system of the liquid rocket engine was suggested. We have considered the influences of parameters of pressurization gas on the efficiency of the thermodynamic processes in the tank. The optimum value of temperature and velocity of pressurization gas at the entrance of tank are obtained by the suggested way.
Inhibition of propellant temperature rising in liquid propulsion rocket using cryogenic fluid as a propellant is very important. Especially propellant temperature rising during stand-by after filling and pre-pressurization can bring into cavitation in turbo-pump. One of the method preventing propellant temperature rising in cryogenic feeding system is recirculating propellant through the loop composed of propellant tank, feed pipe, and recirculation pipe. The circulation of propellant is promoted through gas-lift effect by gas injection to lower position of recirculation pipe. In this experiment liquid oxygen and gas helium is used as propellant and injection gas. Under atmospheric and pressurized tank ullage condition, helium injection flow-rate is varied to observe the variation of recirculating flow-rate and propellant temperature in the feed pipe. There is appropriate helium injection flow-rate for gas-lift recirculation system.

A vent relief valve performs as a safety valve, which ensures ventilation of propellant tank during filling and protection from tank overpressure after filling. Because of the reliability and cost saving, the virtually same vent relief valve has been used on all US cryogenic liquid fueled launch vehicles. Some modification to the valve has been applied to satisfy the various mission requirements of launch vehicles. This paper reviews the main technology trends of the vent relief valve applied to the propellant feed system for launch vehicle with respect to design and manufacture. This paper also introduces the operating technology of vent relief valve applied for launch vehicles of advanced countries in space development.

The pressure regulator has been developed as a pressure-control device of propellant tank in KSR-III. The pressurization system of KSR-III is a basic pressurization system composed of pressurant, He tank and propellant tank. The pressure-control regulator is the most important part of gas-pressurized feed system along with He tank, pyrovalve and He fill valve. The first model of the regulator is tested to satisfy in leakage, strength and basic performance. The second model is tested in the overall test of the KSR-III propulsion system using water. From the test result of the second model, we conclude that the capacity of valve(Cv) must be increased in real system. The third model is modified and tested in the overall test of KSR-III propulsion system using propellant. Finally, the pressure-control regulator is qualified from firing test.
Pressurization system in a liquid-propellant launcher supplies the controlled gas into the ullage volume of propellant tanks to feed propellants to combustion chamber by pressurizing propellants stored in propellant tanks. The ullage part of propellant tank should be constantly pressurized to supply the propellants stored in propellant tanks to turbo-pump or combustion chamber by pressurant pressurization system. Pressurant used to pressurize propellants is generally stored in a series of tanks at cryogenic temperature and high preassure inside an oxidizer tank. The reason is to store the quantity of pressurant as much as possible and to make pressurant tanks as small as (i.e. as light as) possible. However for test convenience pressurant tank is located at STP (standard temperature and pressure) environment in this study. Orifices are widely adapted to several pressurization systems in liquid rocket propulsion systems. Discharge coefficients of orifices are essentially needed for the optimized design of pressurization system in liquid rocket propulsion system. For this study gaseous nitrogen was served as pressurant and rounded entry orifices were employed. The forty-two (42) rounded entry orifices (the radii of curvatures are 0.5 and 1.0) have been tested experimentally in the supersonic flow region. The discharge coefficients of rounded entry orifices with inside diameters ranging from about 1.4 to 5.0mm was measured with 0.95 ${\sim}$ 0.99.

A vent relief valve for oxidizer tank has been designed for liquid propellant feeding system of the space launch vehicle. The vent relief valve ensures oxidizer tank ventilation during filling and its protection from overpressure after filling. Tank ventilation during filling is ensured by vent valve and tank protection is ensured by combined operation of relief valve and vent valve. Numerical analysis predicted that pneumatic behavior and dynamic characteristics met the valve requirements. After manufacturing the prototype model, we have been conducting the tests to evaluate the performance of the vent relief valve.
This paper presents the water-hammer effect due to the rapid opening and closing of isolation valve and thruster valve in the spacecraft propulsion system. The single propellant feed system was modeled to investigate the maximum peak pressure due to the water-hammer effect. The test parameters are tank supply pressure, shape and throat length of orifice and line length. Kerosene was used as the inert simulant propellant liquid instead of hydrazine. As downstream line length after isolation valve increased from 1.5 to 2.5m, the maximum line-filling water-hammer peak pressure decreased, but the average time interval between peak pressures increased. The maximum line-filling water-hammer peak pressure with orifice was lower than without orifice, and the maximum line-filling water-hammer peak pressure with orifice at the back of isolation valve was lower than with orifice in front of isolation valve. Without orifice, the maximum water-hammer peak pressure due to the rapid opening and closing of the thruster valve was about 126% of tank supply pressure. With orifice, it decreased. As orifice throat length increased, it decreased. The maximum water-hammer peak pressure due to the rapid closing of the thruster valve with converging-diverging orifice was lower than normal orifice. It was found that the orifice as a means of pressure drop was very effective to reduce the water hammer peak pressure at the thruster valve. The results of this study can be used for the design of spacecraft liquid propulsion feed system.

The development process of KSR-III propulsion feeding system is subscripted. The purpose of propulsion feeding system is to feed a certain amount of propellant from propellant tank to engine by the end of combustion. Pressure-fed liquid rocket, KSR-III has the unique characteristics of both pressure regulator and cavitation venturi as a passive flow control device. Main parameters of feeding system are confirmed by both water test and CFD(전산유체) technique. Flow control effect with venturi is confirmed by water test. Initial stabilization characteristic of pressure regulator is confirmed by real propellant test. And, to avoid the effect of resonance between rocket and feeding system, this article deal with POGO(포고) analysis to the feeding system.

Since the 1960s hydrazine is used as a propellant to power rocket, satellites or deep space missions. Due to hydrazine's high toxicity and operating cost, the request for Green Propellant as energetic ionic liquids(HAN, ADN), nitrous oxide blends is growing. Nitrous Oxide Fuel Blend(NOFB) having advantage of a bipropellant performance as well as the advantage of a mono-propellant in respect to the simple propellant tank and feed system. It is worth replacing traditional hydrazine based propellant system if handled and designed properly.

Vortexing might occur during draining from tanks which reduces the rate of outflow. This phenomenon has practical relevance in the fuel feed system in space vehicles and rockets. Due to environmental disturbances rotational motion can be generated in the liquid-propellant tank, which in turn can affect the rate of outflow to the engines. The phenomenon is initialized by rotating the fluid In the experimental tank. The dip quickly develops into a vortex with an air core, which extends to the bottom port, reducing the effective cross-sectional area of the drain outlet and consequently the flow rate. Flow characteristics are investigated using SPIV(Stereoscopic Particle Image Velocimetry) method.
