Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) was applied to modeling particle dynamics in microfiltration (MF). The rejection properties of poly methylmethacrylate (PMMA) and polystyrene (PS) were calculated. Calculated rejection (R) of PMMA was independent with the porosity of the membrane, and the R was constant in the range of volume flux between $1\times 1-^{-4}-1\times 10^{-2}$ m/s. These observations were in quantity agreement with our experimental observations. The dependence of PMMA and PS rejection on the ratio of particle diameter and pore diameter were good agreement with the experimental values, which suggesting that the validity of CFD simulation to evaluate rejection of particle in MF membranes. Change of rejection of PMMA as a function of time was molded based on the CFD result which explained well the experimental observation.

The restrictions concerning the use of the radio waves have become severe, the marine radar with low spurious is being developed. Therefore, it is necessary to develop aids to navigation as a radar beacon can respond to new type of marine radar. Because the system of radar in the future is an indetermination, new radar beacon should correspond to old and new radar system during a transition period. New radar beacon that is also able to respond to pulse radar, pulse compression radar and FM-CW radar were considered in these years in Japan. The sign of the response of Morse code in a new system is generated by the delay synthesis system. Computer simulation and actual examination using trial circuit were curried out. A big possibility was set up in the development of the new radar beacon that was able to correspond to old and new radar system. These results and the state of new radar beacon is mentioned in this paper.
Communication device to use slight movement for serious disabled is proposed. This device is developed mainly for patients suffering from ALS or a cerebral infarction. They often have communication difficulty because of deterioration of muscular functions. Features of this device are that the device is wearable on the user’s body and that it detects the movement of eyebrow. Because of these features, it is quite easy to install the sensor on the patient’s body, not like the conventional sensors. Furthermore, an adaptive communication software is incorporated. A feature of this software is that the arrangement and size of the button and window on the display can be optimized depending on the user's physical ability. In the field test it is confirmed that the communication device developed in this study is successfully helped the people with disability for increasing their communication ability.
The flow characteristics around a floating cylinder in a swirling flow field in a vertical pipe with a length of 600mm and an inner diameter of 100mm is investigated by the use of the Stereoscopic-PIV system. The measurement system consists of two cameras, a Nd-Yag laser and a host computer. Optical sensors(LEDs) were used to detect the location of the floating cylinder and to activate the Stereoscopic-PIV system. A conditional sampling Stereoscopic-PIV system was developed in which the flow fields around the floating cylinder are measured at the events of the activations. It has been verified that the motion of the floating cylinder becomes stable when the azimuthal velocity component of the swirl flow is maintained at stable states.

Information about camera operating such as zoom, focus, pan, tilt and tracking is useful not only for efficient video coding, but also for content-based video representation. A camera operating parameter measurement system designed specifically for these applications is therefore developed. This system, implemented in real time and synchronized with the video signal, measures the precise camera operating parameters. We calibrated the camera lens using a camera model that accounts for redial lens distortion. The system is then applied to infer image motion from pan and tilt operating parameters. The experimental results show that the inferred motion coincides with the actual motion very well, with an error of less than 0.5 pixel even for large motion up to 80 pixels.

A two-dimensional Darrieus-type hydroturbine system, installed with a wear for flow streams such as small rivers and waterways, has been developed for hydropower utilization of extra-low head less than 2m. There are several problems such as flow rate change and flowing wastes to be solved for its practical use in natural flow streams. In the present study, at first, a design guideline in the case of overflow or bypass flow is shown by using simple flow model. Next, in order to avoid the unexpected obstacles flowing into the hydroturbine, an installation of waste screening system is examined. It is confirmed that the screen is effective with some amount of bypass flow rate, however the output power is remarkably deteriorated.
In this paper we deal with a design of CCV adaptive flight control system having adaptive observer under the mircroburst circumstances. First, based on the observerbility indices of the controlled system, which is a general multi-variable one, the adaptive observer is constructed, and the unknown interactor matrix can be estimated by using the identified parameters. Next, CCV adaptive flight control law is calculated based upon the estimated ones. Finally, the proposed CCV adaptive flight controller is applied to STOL flying boat and numerical simulations under the microburst circumstances can be show to justify the proposed scheme.
For contents delivery systems, the service is considered in which the utility depends on each priority class. This paper deals with the multiple priority class of the contents delivery system from the viewpoint of the utility. The willingness to pay (WTP) is introduced as a measure of utility, and the optimum condition is analyzed to maximize the total user's utility. For the system with multiple priority classes, the optimum condition is given in terms of the traffic load, wating time for service for each priority class. Systems with the priority classes, 1, 2 and 3 are analyzed, and the effect of the number of priority classes is examined.
In this research, vibration and smart control analysis of a concrete foundation reinforced by $SiO_2$ nanoparticles and covered by piezoelectric layer on soil medium is investigated. The soil medium is simulated with spring constants and the Mori-Tanaka low is used for obtaining the material properties of nano-composite structure and considering agglomeration effects. With considering first order shear deformation theory, the total potential energy of system is calculated and by means of Hamilton's principle in three displacement directions and electric potential, the six coupled equilibrium equations are obtained. Also, based an analytical method, the frequency of system is calculated. The effects of applied voltage, volume percent and agglomeration of $SiO_2$ nanoparticles, soil medium and geometrical parameters of structure are shown on the frequency of system. Results show that with applying negative voltage, the frequency of structure is increased.

The purpose of this paper is to construct a prediction system on the chance of rain in a local region using a fuzzy relational model. The prediction system consists of two parts. One is a prediction part on the chance of rain. The compositional law of fuzzy inference, proposed by Zadeh, is applied to predict the chance of rain. The other is a learning part of a fuzzy relational model using input-output data. A simple and fast learning algorithm is used in this part. Simulations are carried out by the actual weather data in our city and their results show the validity of prediction by the fuzzy relational approach.
