Three-dimensional (3D) displays provide a significant advantage over traditional 2D displays by offering realistic images, and table-style displays in particular are ideal for generating 3D images that appear to float above a table. These systems are based on multiview displays, and are typically operated using temporal or spatial multiplexing methods to expand the viewing zone (VZ). The VZ is an expanded space that results from merging the sub-viewing zones (SVZs) from which an individual view is made. To increase the viewing angle, many SVZs are usually required. In this paper, we propose a table-ornament electronic holographic display that utilizes 3f parabolic mirrors. In holography, the VZ is not simply expanded but synthesized from SVZs to implement continuous motion parallax. Our proposed system is small enough to be applied as a table ornament, in contrast to traditional tabletop displays that are large and not easily portable. By combining multiview and holographic technologies, our system achieves continuous motion parallax. Specifically, our system projects 340 views using a time-multiplexing method over a range of 240 degrees.
In this research, a new tabletop system is developed to provide a high resolution display by using multiple displays and computers connected through networks, based on a master/slave architecture. This distributed tabletop system is built to be scalable by just adding slave computers and monitors without modifying any software. Moreover, a EBITA (Environment for Building Interactive Tangible Applications) framework is developed to support constructing interactive games running on this scalable tabletop platforms. EBITA framework consists of the tangible interface module based on the infrared camera tracking system, and the modules that allow easy development of the graphical programs on a distributed environment. This paper describes the tangible interface based on the camera tracking system and EBITA framework. It also introduces a game built with the EBITA framework.

This paper describes the iTABLE tabletop tiled display system which is designed for displaying high-resolution scientific visualization. Unlike other tabletop systems that typically use a projection-based single display, iTABLE system is suitable for visualizing and sharing high-resolution data, and it is capable of facilitating group interaction with interactive data visualizations on a table and distributed collaborative visualizations with other tiled displays. First, it surveys prior works on tabletop and tiled display systems as well as scientific visualization, and it describes the design and implementation of iTABLE system, and middleware and an infrared camera-based tangible user interface designed for iTABLE system. It will then discuss some high-resolution scientific visualization applications developed for iTABLE followed by conclusions and future research directions.
In this paper, we developed a low cost smart puck system that can interact with the intuitive operation of natural finger touches. The tangible smart puck, designed for capacitive tabletop display, has Arduino embedded processor which communicates only with the MT server. The MT server communicates both to the smart puck and the display server. The display server displays the relevance information on the location of the smart pucks on the tabletop display and handles interactions with the users. The experiment results show that the accuracy of identifying the smart puck ID was very reliable enough to use in practice, and the information presentation processing time is confirmed excellent enough compared to traditional expensive commercial products.
Fog screens offer a great advantage to be used as scattering screens in three-dimensional displays. In the absence of a fixed rigid form, fog screens work as screens without any physical obstruction. The density of water droplets can be regulated to adjust the screen's transparency and scattering level. This study proposes a method for crosstalk reduction between adjacent viewing windows by decreasing the divergence of view of the projector, with concentration lenses. By applying the Scheimpflug principle, we also reduce the keystone effect, which occurs when the fog screen is slanted with respect to the optical axis. In this study, we have realized a tabletop multiview fog display without any structures on the table and established that the proposed method is feasible for decreasing crosstalk effectively.
