In this paper, we was performed the interference analysis to determine an optimal coexisting criteria for the european digital video broadcasting service (DVB-T2) and the IMT-advanced LTE based TV Band Device (TVBD). The TVBD was equipped with the spectrum cognition method. To this end, we set the various transmission parameters, that includes the emission and blocking mask, antenna height and gain, transmission power and bandwidth, channel model etc. Based on this parameters, we were calculated the allowable transmit power, the number of TVBD and the change in probability of interference for the TVBD user operating in the adjacent channels of the DVB-T2 user. Also this paper presents how many TVBD users can sharing with DVB-T2 for spectral cognition performance.

Cognitive radio (CR) technology based on geo-location database access approach and/or wideband spectrum sensing approach is absolutely vital in order to recognize available frequency bands in white spaces (WSs), and efficiently utilize shared spectrums. This paper presents a new structure for the TVWS database access protocol implementation based on Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) Protocol to Access WS database (PAWS). A wideband compressive spectrum sensing (WCSS) scheme using a modulated wideband converter is also proposed for the TVWS utilization. The developed database access protocol technology which is adopted in both the TV band device (TVBD) and the TVWS database operates well in the TV frequency bands. The proposed WCSS shows a stable performance in false alarm probability irrespective of noise variance estimation error as well as provides signal detection probabilities greater than 95%. This paper also investigates Federal Communications Commision (FCC) regulatory requirements of TVWS database as well as European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI) policy related to TVWS database. A standardized protocol to achieve interoperability among multiple TVBDs and TVWS databases, which is currently prepared in the IETF, is discussed.

This paper proposes a system called Wireless Link based on Global Communication Channel (WLGCC) to enhance the spectrum sharing between digital broadcasting (DB) services and the cognitive radio (CR) system in the licensed band of 470-790 MHz. The WLGCC aims to enhance the spectrum sensing and geolocation database (GLD) spectrum sharing methods in the CR system. Spectrum sensing can be enhanced by receiving the status of the used frequencies from the WLGCC, thereby eliminating the need for a low detection threshold (i.e., avoiding the hidden node problem). In addition, the GLD can be enhanced by providing a reliable communication link between the database and the CR device in the form of an unused TV white space that is reserved as the proposed Global Communication Channel (GCC). This paper analyzes the coexistence of the new WLGCC system and the DB service in terms of avoiding additional interference. Specifically, we mathematically determine the WLGCC parameters, such as the in-band and out-of-band power levels, and operation coverage, and verify them using Monte Carlo simulation. The results show that WLGCC does not degrade the existing DB service and reliably transmits information of the vacant (or used) frequency bands to the CR.

According to dramatic increase of wireless communication demand, more spectrum resources are needed to support considerable and various wireless services, so cognitive radio(CR) was proposed to reuse unused frequency efficiently. Also, FCC revises its policies regarding the usage of the TV white spaces by unlicensed users. CR is an intelligent wireless communication system that is aware of the radio environment and is capable of adapting its operation to the statistical variations. Spectrum sensing is the key task of the CR systems. However, since spectrum sensing performance changes according to the received signal that is received various geography environment, regional characteristics are considered to estimate the path-loss. Therefore, for more accurate analysis and simulation, we demonstrate the spectrum sensing performance of CR system by various method applying Okumura-hata propagation model.
Recently, the digital television transition from analog television to digital television has been progressing in terrestrial broadcasting. As a result of the DTV transition, additional reassignments and deployments of TV White spaces (TVWS) caused by co-channel interference (CCI) were needed. In this paper, we investigate the TVWS caused by CCI using Longley-Rice and ITU-R P.1546 propagation model, which are the most widely-used propagation model. In addition, we analyze the service coverage radius and CCI radius according to the height of transmitter antenna and transmitting power. The results show that the ratios of CCI radius to service coverage radius in Longley-Rice and ITU-R P.1546 propagation model are about 2.54 and 2.07, respectively.
This paper is the study in Korea to secure new frequency resources available at sea among terrestrial DTV (Digital TV) broadcasting bands. Focusing on Incheon and Jejudo in the west Sea of Korea, the possibility of using TVWS frequencies of DTV broadcast signals (channels 14-51, 470~698 MHz) was studied. According to the analysis, three channels, channel 19 (503 MHz), channel 37 (611 MHz) and channel 39 (623 MHz) can be used as TVWS available channels without interference with DTV in all nearby seas such as Incheon Port and Jeju Port. On the other hand, two channels, Channel 23 (527 MHz) and Channel 33 (587 MHz), were divided into strong DTV signals in the section between Incheon Port and Jeju Port, making it difficult to use them as available frequencies for TVWS on the west coast.

This paper presents a novel design for dual-band bandpass filters. The proposed filters are applicable to the carrier aggregation of the TV white space (TVWS) band and long-term evolution (LTE) band for cognitive radio applications. The lower passband is the TVWS band (470-698 MHz) whose fractional bandwidth is 40 %, while the higher passband is the LTE band (824-894 MHz) with 8 % fractional bandwidth. Since the two passbands are located very close to each other, a transmission zero is inserted to enhance the rejection level between the two passbands. The TVWS band filter is designed using magnetic coupling to obtain a wide bandwidth, and the LTE band filter is designed using dielectric resonators to achieve good insertion loss characteristics. In addition, in the proposed design, a transmission zero is placed with cross-coupling. The proposed dual-band bandpass filter is designed as a two-port filter (one input/one output) as well as a three-port filter (one common input/two outputs). The measured performances show good agreement with the simulated performances.

This paper has proposed a low-noise and high-linear RF receiver supporting TV white space from 470 MHz to 698 MHz), which is implemented in $0.13-{\mu}m$ CMOS technology. It consists of a low-noise amplifier, a RF band-pass filter, a RF amplifier, a passive down-conversion mixer, and a channel-selection low-pass filter. A low-noise amplifier and RF amplifier provide a high voltage gain to improve the sensitivity level. To suppress strong and nearby interferers, two RF filtering schemes have been performed by using a RF BPF and a down-conversion mixer. The proposed LPF has been based on the common-gate topology and adopted a bi-quad cell to achieve -24dB/oct characteristics. In addition, the RF receiver can support the overall TV band by controlling a LO frequency. The simulated results show a voltage gain of 56 dB, a noise figure of less than 2 dB, and an out-of-channel IIP3 of -2.3 dBm. It consumes 37 mA from a 1.5 V supply voltage.

Analysis on co-use parameters in TV frequency channels is essential to utilize a TV White Space(TVWS) efficiently. A transmission probability of interfering transmitter can be used as some criteria for performance evaluation of the systems that co-use the cochannels. We considered a duty cycle as a parameter for getting the method how heterogeneous systems can use simultaneously a co-channel in TVWS. We analyze the transmission probability of interfering transmitter with an assumption that the probability is the same as the duty cycle, a time that it spends in an active state as a fraction of the total under consideration. In order to make an analysis of relationship between duty cycle and performances of two systems. We take into consideration on the case that WLAN is an victim receiver and WiBro is a interfering transmitter. Analyzed coexistence results may be widely applied into the technique developed to get the coexisting condition for wireless devices using many communication protocols in same frequency.
