A Design and Implementation of a Digital TV Interactive Game Using a Touchpad Mobile Device (터치패드 이동 단말기를 이용하는 디지털 TV 인터랙티브 게임의 설계 및 구현)

  • In this paper, we developed digital TV interactive game using mobile device. This enables a TV viewer to participate in the game using mobile devices. Recently, advanced interface is adopted in the mobile devices, especially touchpad type interface is favorable. Such type interface has the advantage of more familiar interface for users, and the user can input various type of action. Using a mobile phone enables many users can participate in the TV game, and provides a private screen. In this paper, we describe contributions of the program in detail, and we present the architecture and a demonstration of the proposed program in a similar broadcasting environment.

  • With the start of digital broadcasting, TV screen, there is provided a new broadcast service is called EPG (Electronic Program Guide) that can be retrieved directly to a channel or program. However, a study considering the EPG of the user interface on the viewer position is so far insufficient. TV is because everyone watching the media, rather than a specific layer is necessary in order to find easy, intuitive user interface for the program to the viewer. That is, it is possible to quickly find the program to select the attributes that the TV viewer can be easily understood by using the EPG. To this end, this paper first genres which are representative of the properties that distinguish a TV program, time, rating, etc. were systematically classified. So viewers the values of the properties but to specify organized by the EPG, the order of attributes that specify the value we design a user interface that can be selected as having easy. And compare the superiority of the function evaluation of the two through the EPG in the EPG Usability Test proposed by the EPG with the existing commercial paper.

  • Current paper introduces the multimedia functional module and related interface development for digital TV. The module is developed for displaying the image captured by digital still camera, camcorder, or PC in the digital TV. For these purposes, the module has the interface circuit for accessing five media type of memory cards. It decodes JPEG, BMP, or TIFF image date saved in the memory card and converts the image data to analog RGB signal. It also supports three types of output image size from HD(High Definition) to WXGA(Wide Extended Graphics Array) resolution. So the introduced module could be adopted in all kinds of digital TV set.

  • The technology convergence of television, communication, and computing devices enables the rich social and entertaining experience through Smart TV in personal living space. The powerful smart TV computing platform allows to provide various user interaction interfaces like IR remote control, web based control, body gesture based control, etc. The presently used smart TV interaction user control methods are not efficient and user-friendly to access different type of media content and services and strongly required advanced way to control and access to the smart TV with easy user interface. This paper propose the optical wireless communication (OWC) based remote controller design for Smart TV using smart device Flashlights. In this approach, the user smart device act as a remote controller with touch based interactive smart device application and transfer the user control interface data to smart TV trough Flashlight using visible light communication method. The smart TV built-in camera follows the optical camera communication (OCC) principle to decode data and control smart TV user access functions according. This proposed method is not harmful as radio frequency (RF) radiation does it on human health and very simple to use as well user does need to any gesture moves to control the smart TV.

  • 본 연구의 목적은 어린이를 위한 인터랙티브 TV (KidTV)의 개발 사례를 통하여 사용자 인터페이스 디자인에 있어 제품디자인 영역의 특수성이 반영된 보다 적합한 인터랙티브 제품의 디자인 개발 체계를 개발하기 위한 관점을 찾는데 있다. 이를 위하여 본 연구에서는 인터랙션 디자인 프로젝트에서 제품디자인적 문제해결 과제인 물리적 형태부여의 주요 요소인 인터랙션 스타일을 보다 합리적으로 조형요소로써 반영하기 위한 해결안으로써 "Form follows function" 이라는 루이스 설리반의 주장에서 힌트를 얻어 현시적 관점에서 그의 주장을 재해석하여 "Form follows Interaction" 이라는 디자인 키워드를 통하여 사용자 인터페이스 디자인에서의 제품디자인 측면의 인터페이스 개발을 위한 하나의 관점으로 제안하고자 한다. 이를 통하여 다양한 학제가 결합하여 진행할 수 밖에 없는 사용자 인터페이스 디자인에 있어 여러 다른 학제들과 제품디자인 영역간의 이해를 돕고 사용자 인터페이스 전체적인 관점에서 제품디자인 영역의 디자인 개발체계를 확립할 수 있는 하나의 관점을 제공하고자 한다.

  • Traditional broadcasting environment is merged with various interactive broadcasting services, and the users use these services through Set-Top-Boxes. But they have limited user interfaces, which are not suitable for TV environments by adopting internet formats. Therefore, this paper suggests a User Navigating Interface which helps the audiences to select and watch their favorite channels more effectively. Firstly, this paper analyzes EPG interface - the most basic service in interactive broadcasting. Secondly, it suggests a user interface and service structure suitable in the network-integrated TV environment.

  • Since the two-way interactive broadcasting service began, remote controllers have been fitted with 4 color buttons, which enable interaction and convenience to grow between users and content. With Currently, diverse studies on IPTV are in progress. Particularly, as the mobile market rapidly grows, studies on mobile IPTV and on linkage with other media are constantly increasing. Yet, mobile IPTV has never been studied as of now. In that sense, the present study attempted to design a mobile-based IPTV UI that is fitted with more usability and functionality of 4 color buttons and multi-dimensional search based on consistent criteria for content search. The UI designed in this study was estimated using user interface design guideline. The guideline is comprised of consistency, user centered, ease of use, forgiveness, feedback, functionality, aesthetic integrity.

  • This paper describes the design and implementation of architecture for convergence of home network services and data broadcasting services based on UMB and ACAP middleware; the one is used for interoperability of home networked devices, and the other for data broadcasting services. The proposed architecture provides TV-centric user interface capable of managing home network services and data broadcasting services together using a remote controller and TV sets TV applying Java TV Xlet interface and HAVi user interface for home network services like data broadcasting services. Besides, we define the service proxy for accessing home network services in a set-top box and the service broker for providing data related to home network services in a home server. Finally, the application manager in ACAP middleware manages the lifecycle of home network services through service events from the service proxy to the application manager.
