  • This paper presents a novel respiration rate estimation method based on joint amplitude and time of arrival (TOA) using impulse-radio ultra-wideband (IR-UWB) radar signals. Through analysis of the affect of body-rocking, it is shown that body-rocking information does not distort the respiration rate and exists at integer multiples of the body-rocking rate from the respiration rate. Based on the analysis, the convolution of the temporal sequence of the maximum amplitude and that of the TOA is proposed. The analysis results show that the frequency components of respiration are improved more than 10dB compared with those obtained using other existing methods.

  • A method for estimating position is AOA, TOA, TDOA, Wi-Fi, Beacon etc. A method for estimating the location in indoor environment is used mainly Wi-Fi, Beacon. The reason is that AOA, TOA and TDOA are unfit to estimate position in indoor environment. To address this problem, this paper presents a AOA algorithm based on AP having a four directional antenna. The algorithm uses only the angle received from the four antennas. This can draw linear equations for signal. And calculate the intersections of the lines. Intersections means the position of user.

  • This paper proposes particle filter(PF) method using acoustic signal for localization of an underwater robot. The method uses time of arrival(TOA) or time difference of arrival(TDOA) of acoustic signals from beacons whose locations are known. An experiment in towing tank uses TOA information. Simulation uses TDOA information and it reveals dependency of the localization performance on the uncertainty of robot motion and senor data. Also, comparison of the PF method with the least squares method of spherical interpolation(SI) and spherical intersection(SX) is provided. Since PF uses TOA or TDOA which comes from measurement of external information as well as internal motion information, its estimation is more accurate and robust to the sensor and motion uncertainty than the least squares methods.

  • This paper is aimed at developing an location tracking system of mobile station based on currently available mobile communication network or mobile Phone and PCS(Personal Communication System). When the location tracking of mobile stations is in services, Emergency-119, all of crime investigation, effective urban traffic management and the safety protection of Alzheimer's patients can be available. In order to track the location of the mobile and base station, assumption in this paper is to use the statistic characteristics of LOS when modeling the standard noise in case that radio path is LNOS environment. The standard variation of the standard noise is $\pm150$. First, location is estimated by the positioning algorithms of TOA and TDOA and compared each other. Second, after canceling the standard noise by Kalman filter, location is estimated by the above two positioning algorithms. Finally, the location by the Kalman filter and two positioning algorithms is estimated by smoothing method. As a result, 2 dimensional average location error is imvoved by 51.2m in TOA and 34.8m in TDOA when Kalman filer and two positioning algorithms are used, compared with the two positioning algorithm used. And there is 3 more meter improvement after smoothing than Kalman filer and two positioning algorithms used.

  • In this paper, a packet-reduced ranging method using a superresolution time of arrival estimation algorithm for a chirp-based real-time locating system is presented. A variety of ranging methods, such as symmetric double-sided two-way ranging (SDS-TWR), have been proposed to remove the time drift due to the frequency offset using extra ranging packets. Our proposed method can perform robust ranging against the frequency offset using only two ranging packets while maintaining almost the same ranging accuracy as them. To verify the effectiveness of our proposed algorithm, the error performance of our proposed ranging method is analyzed and compared with others. The total ranging performance of TWR, SDS-TWR, and our proposed TWR are analyzed and verified through simulations in additive white Gaussian noise and multipath channels in the presence of the frequency offset.

  • As a channel of a DS-CDMA system is shared among several users, the receivers face the problem of MAI. Also the bandlimited channel leads to ISI. Both components are undesired, but unlike the additive noise process, which is usually completely unpredictable, their space-time structure helps to estimate and remove them. This paper investigates a DS-CDMA system with a fading multipath channel. The investigations have been separated into a channel estimation part and a reception part. In the estimation part of seperated two parts, the multipath parameters such as DOA and TOA are evaluated in this paper. In the part of receiver, we used these parameters and tested the performance of this receiver about space-time beamformers(Decorrelating, Match-Filter, Wiener-Hopf, Subspace-Based). To assess many different estimation techniques and beamformers, the simulation compared with theoretical values is performed.

  • An estimation problem in the environment which GPS signals do not reach, should be solved by employing an indoor location estimation scheme. Location estimation schemes for indoor environments generally include the AOA, TOA, RSS, Fingerprint, and TDOA. For a ship environment where there exist many spaces enclosed by iron plates, the TDOA scheme is appropriate because location estimation is usually performed at a closed range. In this paper, we address the problem of estimating the location of a terminal under the ship environment. The problem of location estimation by using the TDOA is presented in detail, and then an algorithm for applying the estimation to the ship environment is proposed. Finally, the proposed algorithm of location estimation in a ship by the TDOA scheme is verified through simulations from three viewpoints.

  • There have recently been various services that use indoor location estimation technologies. Representative methods of location estimation include fingerprinting and triangulation, but they lack accuracy. Various kinds of research which apply existing location estimation methods like AOA, TOA, and TDOA are being done to solve this problem. In this paper, we study the location estimation algorithm based on AOA using a RSSI difference in indoor environments. We assume that there is a single AP with four antennas, and estimate the angle of arrival based on the RSSI value to apply the AOA algorithm. To compensate for RSSI, we use a recursive averaging filter, and use the corrected RSSI and the Pythagorean theorem to estimate the angle of arrival. The results of the experiment, show an error of 18% because of the radiation pattern of the four non-directional antennas arranged at narrow intervals.
