A New High Frequency Linked Soft-Switching PWM DC-DC Converter with High and Low Side DC Rail Active Edge Resonant Snubbers for High Performance Arc Welder

  • This paper presents two new circuit topologies of DC bus lineside active edge resonant snubber assisted soft-switching PWM full-bridge DC-DC converter acceptable for either utility AC 200V-rms or AC 400V-rms input voltage source. All the active power switches in the full-bridge arms and DC busline can achieve ZCS turn-on and ZVS turn-off commutations and the total turn-off switching power losses of all active switches can be reduced for high-frequency switching action. The effectiveness of these new DC-DC converters topologies is proved for low voltage and large current high efficiency DC-DC power supplies as TIG arc welding machine from a practical point of view.

초음파 적외선 열화상을 이용한 마찰교반용접부의 결함 검출 (Using ultrasound infrared thermography to detect defects in lap joint Friction stir welding)

  • 알루미늄 합금 재질은 무게의 경량화와 기계적강도가 우수하며 다른 비철금속에 비하여 값이 저렴한 장점이 있다. 현재 산업현장에서 활용하는 가장 흔한 접합법으로 TIG, RSW 등과 같은 용융 용접법을 현재는 많이 사용 하고 있지만 열전도도가 높아 열 확산이 빠르고, 이에 따라 모재의 팽창이 일어나 열변형을 유발하며, 산화피막은 그 내부에 함유된 결정수가 아크용접 중 분해되어 수소를 방출함으로 기공이 발생하여 부도체로 저항용접시 전도성을 방해하는 등의 문제를 발생시킨다. 또한 철에 비해 4배정도 큰 전기전도율에 따라 저항용접시 대전류를 사용해야 하는 등의 문제점이 발생하고 있다. 이와 같은 알루미늄 합금의 용융용접 과정에서 발생하는 단점을 극복하는 기술로 고상접합 방법인 마찰교반용접법(Friction Stir Welding)이 활용되고 있다. FSW는 1991년 영국의 TWI에서 개발된 최신 용접법으로 모재를 용융점 아래에서 고상용접시키는 방법으로 용융에 따른 열변형과 흄가스(hume gas)와 스패터(spatter)를 억제시켜 주는 친환경적인 용접법이다. 이러한 마찰교반용접의 기술은 그동안 특허에 따른 로열티가 산업현장에서 사용하는데 문제가 되었으나 특허보호 기간인 20년이 1년정도의 기간밖에 남지 않은 상황에서 그 사용은 날로 증가하리라 본다. 이러한 마찰교반용접부의 결함을 평가하는 방법에는 UT, RT 등이 활용되고 있으나 얇은 박판에서의 결함검출은 용이하지 않다. 이리한 문제점을 해결하기위하여 초음파 가진을 이용한 적외선 열화상 검출 기법을 이용하여 마찰교반용접부의 결함 검출 가능성을 연구하였다. 20kHz의 주파수를 400Watt로 가진시켜 겹치기(lap joint) 마찰교반용접이된 A6061-T6의 용접부에 초음파를 입사하였을 때 발생하는 열을 적외선 열화상 카메라를 이용하여 측정함으로써 마찰교반겹치기 용접부의 결함 검출에 활용하였다. 용접부에 초음파를 입사하였을 때 부분적으로 온도차이가 발생하였고, 그에 따른 열화상을 검출 할 수 있었다. 이러한 열화상과 실제 시험편의 용접부의 강도를 평가하기 위하여 인장시험을 하였다. 그 결과 초음파 적외선 열화상 검출에서 발열부위가 나타난 부분이 인장시험에서 낮은 인장강도를 보였다.

Fatigue Life of the Repair TIG Welded Hastelloy X Superalloy

  • Hastelloy X in this study was applied in jet engine F-15 air fighter as shroud to isolate the engine from outer skin. After 15 years operation at elevated temperature the mechanical properties decreased gradually due to the precipitation of continues second phases in the grain boundaries and precipitated inside the grain. The crack happened at the edge of the shroud due to the thermal and mechanical stress from jet engine. Selective TEM analysis found that the grain boundaries consist of $M_{23}C_6$ carbide, $M_6$ Ccarbide and small percentage of sigma(${\sigma}$) phase. Furthermore, it was confirmed the nano size of ${\sigma}$ and miu (${\mu}$) phase inside the grain. In this study, it was investigated the microstructure of the degraded shroud component and HAZ of repair welded shroud. In the HAZ, it was observed the dissolution of the $M_{23}C_6$ carbides and smaller precipitates, the migration of the undissolved larger $M_{23}C_6$ carbide and $M_6$ Ccarbide. It is also observed the liquation due to the simply melt of the segregated precipitates in the grain boundaries. Interestingly, the segregated second phases which simply melt in the grain boundaries more easily happened at higher heat input welding condition. High temperature tensile test was done at $300^{\circ}C$, $700^{\circ}C$ and $900^{\circ}C$. It was obtained that the toughness of welded sample is lower compare to the non-welded sample. The solution heat treatment at $1170^{\circ}C$ for 5 minutes was suggested to obtain a better mechanical properties of the shroud. The high cycle fatigue number of the repair welded shroud shows a much lower compare to the shroud. In addition, the high cycle fatigue number at room temperature after solution heat treatment was almost double compare to the before solution heat treatment under 420-500MPa stress amplitude. However, the high cycle fatigue number of repaired welded sample was shown a much lower compare to the non- welded shroud and solution treated shroud. One of the main reasons to decrease the tensile strength and the high cycle fatigue properties of the repair welded shroud is the formation of the liquid phase in HAZ.

저방사화 철강재 (JLF-1)의 파괴인성에 미치는 시험편 크기의 영향 (Effect of specimen size on fracture toughness of reduced activation ferritic steel (JLF-l))

  • Reduced activation ferritic (JLF-1) steel is leading candidates for blanket/first-wall structures of the D-T fusion reactor. In fusion application, structural materials will suffer effects of repeated changes of temperature. Therefore, the data base of tensile strength and fracture toughness at operated temperature $400^{\circ}C$ are very important. Fracture toughness ($J_{IC}$) and tensile tests were carried out at room temperature and elevated temperature ($400^{\circ}C$). Fracture toughness tests were performed with two type size to investigate the relationship between the constraint effect of a size and the fracture toughness resistance curve. As the results, the tensile strength and the fracture toughness values of the JLF-1 steel are slightly decreased with increasing temperature. The fracture resistance curve increased with increasing plane size and decreased with increasing thickness. The fracture toughness values of JLF-1 steel at room temperature and at $400^{\circ}C$ shows an excellent fracture toughness ($J_{IC}$) of about $530kJ/m^2\;and\;340kJ/m^2$, respectively.

질소 보호 가스 첨가가 하이퍼 듀플렉스 스테인리스 밀봉용접재의 마모부식 저항성에 미치는 영향 (Influence of the nitrogen gas addition in the Ar shielding gas on the erosion-corrosion of tube-to-tube sheet welds of hyper duplex stainless steel)

  • Duplex stainless steels with nearly equal fraction of the ferrite(${\alpha}$) phase and austenite(${\gamma}$) phase have been increasingly used for various applications such as power plants, desalination facilities due to their high resistance to corrosion, good weldability, and excellent mechanical properties. Hyper duplex stainless steel (HDSS) is defined as the future duplex stainless steel with a pitting resistance equivalent (PRE=wt.%Cr+3.3(wt.%Mo+0.5wt.%W)+30wt.%N) of above 50. However, when HDSS is welded with gas tungsten arc (GTA), incorporation of nitrogen in the Ar shielding gas are very important because the volume fraction of ${\alpha}$-phase and ${\gamma}$-phase is changed and harmful secondary phases can be formed in the welded zone. In other words, the balance of corrosion resistance between two phases and reduction of $Cr_2N$ are the key points of this study. The primary results of this study are as follows. The addition of $N_2$ to the Ar shielding gas provides phase balance under weld-cooling conditions and increases the transformation temperature of the ${\alpha}$-phase to ${\gamma}$-phase, increasing the fraction of ${\gamma}$-phase as well as decreasing the precipitation of $Cr_2N$. In the anodic polarization test, the addition of nitrogen gas in the Ar shielding gas improved values of the electrochemical parameters, compared to the Pure Ar. Also, in the erosion-corrosion test, the HDSS welded with shielding gas containing $N_2$ decreased the weight loss, compared to HDSS welded with the Ar pure gas. This result showed the resistance of erosion-corrosion was increased due to increasing the fraction of ${\gamma}$-phase and the stability of passive film according to the addition $N_2$ gas to the Ar shielding gas. As a result, the addition of nitrogen gas to the shielding gas improved the resistance of erosion-corrosion.
