Diffusion coupling experiment was done to study expansion of body and soild reaction in BaCO3-TiO2 system. Specimen of BaCO3 and TiO2 was formed with Pt-mark's method. Each specimen was fired at interval of 25℃ from 900℃ to 1000℃ for 2hrs. After that, specimen was fixed with resin and polished. Product layers of specimen were observed with SEM and EDS. The result were following; 1. Diffusion component is Ba2+, which diffuse toward TiO2. 2. Large crack between layer of BaCO3 and Ba2TiO4 was generated because of difference of thermal expansion coefficient. 3. Ba2TiO4 is formed to TiO2 body by the reaction of BaTiO3 and BaO and its structure is very porous. 4. BaTiO3 changes immediately to Ba2TiO4 by the reaction of BaO. But BaTiO3 which formed by the reaction of TiO2 and Ba2TiO4 exsists as layer because the diffusion distance of Ba2+ is far.

In order to determine the wear Properties of PECVD ceramic coatings, wear process was evaluated using the coated pin of Falex Tribosystem. Coating materials deposited wear the TiC, TiN and Ti(CN). An experimental process was established to determine the tribological characteristics of friction and wear behavior under the variation of applied load, temperature and sliding distance by the Falex test machine. The experimental results indicate that TiN coating compared with TiC coating on e materials have e excellent friction and wear characteristics. However TiC coating compared i친 TiN coatings have a low friction coefficient with steel and good thermal stability, and Ti(CN) has the excellent anti-wear properly as well as the superiority of extreme pressure property. Compound coating compared wi simple coatings show improved tribological characteristics.
Optical properties of $TiO_2/M/Ag/M/TiO_2$ films have been changed with the diffusion barrier metal M. Optimum opticla properties of $TiO_2/M/Ag/M/TiO_2$ as the transparent heat mirror film, could be obtained with Ti among diffusion barrier metals of Ti, Cu, Zr and Al. $TiO_2/M/Ag/M/TiO_2$ film, which was fabricated by sputtering of 18 nm-thick $TiO_2$ and Ag, and 4nm-thick Ti, showed maximum transimittance of 89% at visible wavelength and infrared reflectance of 97% at wavelength of 3000 nm. Optical properties of this film was not degraded by Xenon-sunshine weather test for 240 hours. For specimens with barrier layers of Cu, Zr, and Al, degradation of optical properties by weather test was increased in a sequence of films with Cu, Zr, and Al barrier layers.
Behaviors of abnormal expansion during calcination process of Ba2Ti9O20 ceramics and its related effects on the sintering characteristics were investigated as a function of precursors. When BaCO3 and TiO2 powders were used as starting materials. BaTi4O9 phase which has relatively large molar volume was formed drastically with abnormal ex-pansion during the calcination at 95$0^{\circ}C$ to 115$0^{\circ}C$ ON the contrary using BaTiO3 and TiO2 powders as starting materials led to retardation of the formation of BaTi4O9 phase and concurrently suppressed the abnormal expansion during cal-cination process. Especially the calcined powder of BaTiO3 and TiO2 had advantages in the densification and formation of Ba2Ti9O20 single phase in the sintering process.
The vir genes expression of Ti plasmid is induced by a family of related phenolic compounds. We investigated the effects of various phenolic compounds, Ti plasmids and hosts on the expression of the vir genes in the same type of octopine Ti plasmids, pTiKU12, pTiAch5 and pTiA6. The vir gene induction of pTiKU12 was remarkably stimulated by p-coumaric acid in relation to acetosyringone, but those of pTiAch5 and pTiA6 were more stimulated by acetosyringone than by p-coumaric acid. The effect of phenolic compound on the vir gene induction was different according to the kind of Ti plasmids. Also, the vir gene expression of A. tumefaciens KU913, which has pTiKU12 was about 6.2 times as much as that of A. tumefaciens KU915, which has pTiKU12 in KU12 host, in the presence of ferulic acid. But no difference was shown in the presence of p-coumaric acid. The vir gene induction abilities of phenolic compounds are different according to the kinds of phenolic compounds, Ti plasmids and hosts.
Ti plasmids were isolated from three strains of Agrobacterium tumefaciens in Korea and their types and molecular weights were determined. All of these are octopine-type and their molecular weights are 44Kb (pTi 12), 180Kb (pTi 14) and 172Kb (pti 49), respectively. In order to construct physical map of pTi 12, pTi 12 was digested with restriction endonucleases Sma I and Hind III. Sma I degestion of pTi 12 produce 8 fragments and Hind III produced 10 fragments. Physical arrangements of these fragments was determined by Southern hybridization techniques.

We have studied the effect of C/Ti atomic ratio of TiCx (x=0.5, 0.75 and 1.0) raw powder on the properties of the Ti-Mo-WTiC sintered hard alloy. The decrease of C/Ti atomic ratio accelerated the densification in the sintering process. The hardness was remarkably improved up to 1350HV with decreasing the C/Ti atomic ratio because of increase of TiCx phase volume content and its fine dispersion. From the results of electro-chemical tests in acid and 3% NaCl solutions, it was obvious that every alloy had excellent corrosion resistance, which meant about 200 times better than that of WC-Co cemented carbide.
The $TiN/TiSi_2$ bilayer has been studied for contact barrier layer at ULSI recently. The $TiN/TiSi_2$ bilayer was formed by RTA in $NH_3$ ambient simultaneously after the Ti film was deposited on silicon substrate. In this paper, properties of $TiN/TiSi_2$ bilayer was evaluated according to $BF_2$ dopant concentration and dopant redistribution in $TiN/TiSi_2$ bilayer was also analyzed. In this experiment, the composition and structure of $TiN/TiSi_2$ bilayer were constant even though dopant concentration increased but silicide growth rate decreased. Boron atoms were redistributed within TiN film and at $TiSi_2Si$ interface during the bilayer formation.
When $N_2$was used as shielding gas during the formation of Ti surface-alloyed layer by irradiation of $CO_2$laser beam on steel, TiN and F$e_2$Ti were formed regardness of carbon-content in steel. When Ti content was increased in low carbon-content steel, formation of martensitic structure was suppressed due to increase of critical cooling rate for martensitic transformation. In case of high-carbon steel, even though Ti content was about 1.5% in alloyed layer, hardness was increased by formation of martensitic structure instead of ferrite. In addition to that structure, hardness was incrreased further by precipitation of TiC in Ti alloyed-layer of high carbon-steel.
This study evaluated the grindability of series of Ti-Cu alloys in order to develop a Ti alloy with better grindability than commercially pure titanium(CP Ti). Experimental Ti-Xwt%Cu alloys(X=2, 5, 10) were made in an argon-arc melting furnace. Slabs of experimental alloys were ground using a SiC abrasive wheel on an electric handpiece at circumferential speed(15000, 30000rpm) by applying a force(250, 300gr). Grindability was evaluated by measuring the amount of metal volume removed after grinding for 2 minutes. Data were compared to those for CP Ti and Ti-6wt%Al-4wt%V alloy. From results, It was observed that the grindability of Ti-Cu alloys increased with an increase in the Cu concentration compared to CP Ti, particularly the 10wt%Cu alloy exhibited the highest grindability at all speeds. By alloying with Cu, the Ti exhibited better grindability at high speed. The continuous precipitation of $Ti_2Cu$ among the ${\alpha}$-matrix grains made this material less ductile and facilitated more effective grinding because small segments more readily formed. The Ti-10wt%Cu alloy has a great potential for use as a dental machining alloy.
