In this paper, we propose an improved TDoA (Time Difference of Arrival) localization scheme using PSO (Particle Swarm Optimization) in UWB (Ultra Wide Band) systems. The proposed scheme is composed of two steps: re-estimation of TDoA parameters and re-localization of a tag position. In both steps, the PSO algorithm is employed to improve the performance. In the first step, the proposed scheme re-estimates the TDoA parameters obtained by traditional TDoA localization to reduce the TDoA estimation error. In the second step, the proposed scheme with the TDoA parameters estimated in the first step, re-localizes the tag to minimize the location error. The simulation results show that the proposed scheme achieves a more superior location performance to the traditional TDoA localization in both LoS (Line-of-Sight) and NLoS (Non-Line-of-Sight) channel environments.
This paper proposes an impact point estimation algorithm of the rifle using microphone sensors. The proposed algorithm resolves the time synchronization problem by expanding the existing ToA (Time of Arrival) method to TDoA (Time Difference of Arrival) method and verifies the performance of the algorithm through the actual shooting experiments. By comparing analysis of the actual and the estimated impact points by the algorithm, it is confirmed that the proposed algorithm has excellent performance by estimating the impact point accurately within the tolerance range.

Tracking of sound-location is widely used in various area such as intelligent CCTV, video conference and voice commander. In this paper we introduce the real-time sound-location tracking method for smart lecture system using TDoA(Time Difference of Arrival) with orthogonal microphone array on the ceiling. Through discussion on some models of TDoA detection, cross correlation method using linear microphone array is proposed. Orthogonal array with 5 microphone could detect omni direction of sound-location. For real-time detection we adopt the threshold of received energy for eliminating no-voice interval, signed cross correlation for reducing computational complexity. The detected azimuth angles are processed using median filter for lowering the angle deviation. The proposed system is implemented with high performance MCU of TMS320F379D and MEMs microphone module and shows the accuracy of 0.5 and 6.5 in degree for white noise and lectured voice, respectively.

Presently, there are many different technologies used for position detection. However, as signal-receiving devices operating in different locations must detect the precise position of objects located at long distances, it is essential to know the precise time at which an object's or a user's terminal device sends a signal. For this purpose, the existing time of arrival (ToA) technology is not sufficiently reliable, and the existing time difference of arrival (TDoA) technology is more suitable. If a TDoA-based electric surveillance system and other tracking devices fail to achieve precise time-synchronization between devices with separation distance operation, it is impossible to obtain correct TDoA values from the signals sent by the signal-receiving devices; this failure to obtain the correct values directly affects the location estimation error. For this reason, the technology for achieving precise time synchronization between signal-receiving devices in separation distance operation, among the technologies previously mentioned, is a core technology for detecting TDoA-based locations. In this paper, the accuracy of the proposed time synchronization and the measurement error in the TDoA-based location detection technology is evaluated. The TDoA-based location measurement error is significantly improved when using the proposed method for time-synchronization error reduction.

In this Paper, we propose a body-area localization technique based on WUSB (Wireless USB) over WBAN (Wireless Body Area Networks) protocol required for wearable computer systems. The proposed localization algorithm is executed on the basis of WUSB over WBAN protocol at each sensor node comprising peripherals of a wearable computer system. To increase the accuracy of input information through various body motions in wearable computer systems, a new localization technique with high precision must be developed. To achieve the goal, This paper proposes a combined TDoA/FDoA/AoA (Time Of Arrival/Time Difference Of Arrival/Angle Of Arrival) localization technique with more than four WUSB over WBAN devices to estimate body-area location accurately. The combined TDoA/FDoA/AoA technique reduces 10mm in location estimation errors comparing with a combined TDoA/FDoA technique. This performance enhancement in location error reduction can be ignored at other systems but is meaningful results in body-area localization-based communications.

Recently, ToA and TDoA estimation are favorable among all of estimation techniques because they have the best accuracy in estimating position. ToA and TDoA estimation are typical techniques based on time. So, it is important to have the time syncronization and offset between a target node and several reference nodes. If they don't have the time syncronization between a reference node and target node or have a time offset among reference nodes, the positioning error will increase due to the ranging error. The conventional positioning algorithm does not have a accurate device's position because ranging error is added the calc dation of the position. In this paper, we propose a hybrid method of ToA and TDoA ll increase due. We use MHP pulse that has orthogonal pulse instead of the existing pulse to transmit and receive pulses between a target node and reference nodes. We can estimate the target node's position by ToA and TDoA estimation to transmit and receive MHP pulses only once. When the proposed Hybrid method iteratively calculate the distance, we can select the ranging technique to have more accurate position. The simulation results confirm the enhancement of the Hybrid method.
TDoA (Time Difference-of Arrival) or DoA (Direction-of-Arrival) can be used for source localization. However, the localizing performance is dependent on relative position between source and receivers, receivers' geometric structure, sound speed, and so on. In this paper we propose a source localization method with enhanced performance that combines multiple information. The proposed method uses the time TDoA, DoA and sound speed as variables. LM (Levenberg-Marquardt) method which is one of nonlinear optimizations is applied. The performances of the proposed method was evaluated by simulation. As result of simulation, the proposed method has the lower average localizing error performance than the previous method.

In this paper, we propose an asynchronous UWB (Ultra Wide Band) Positioning scheme that can provide precise positioning performance with low complexity and low power consumption. We also present the residual test to improve the positioning performance in multipath channels having heavy NLoS (Non-Line of Sight) components. As compared to conventional ToA (Time of Arrival) positioning scheme that requires round-trip transmissions as many as the number of beacons, the proposed UWB positioning scheme effectively decrease power consumption and processing delay since a single round-trip transmission is only required. Also, as compared to conventional TDoA (Time Difference of Arrival) positioning scheme requiring precise synchronization among the beacons, asynchronous nature of the proposed scheme achieves very low system complexity. Through simulations in LoS (Line of Sight) channel models, we observe that the proposed scheme requires low system complexity, low power consumption, while providing positioning performance of almost the same accuracy as the conventional ToA and TDoA positioning schemes. In addition, the proposed scheme by employing the residual test achieves accurate positioning performance even in multipath channels having heavy NLoS components.
Extended Kalman Filter(EKF) is widely used in tracking position of nonlinear system. but there exists a divergence problem caused by approximation of nonlinear system's linearization. Adaptive fading Kalman filter (AFKF) is one of the effective methods which employs suboptimal fading factors to solve the divergence problem in an EKF In this paper we present an improved TDoA (time difference of arrival) based position tracking by using AFKF.

In this paper, a channel assignment technique to mitigate interferences due to ISI(Inter Symbol Interference) and ICI(Inter Carrier Interference) caused by TDoA(Time Difference of Arrival) among distributed MRs(Mesh Routers) in OFDMA(Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access)-based WMN(Wireless Mesh Network) is proposed. The SINR(Signal to Interference and Noise Ratio) associated with the channel assignment for each MR is defined to minimize the effect of ISI and ICI due to TDoA in WMN, which is then used to propose an channel assignment technique considering fairness constraint. It is verified by computer simulation that the proposed channel assignment technique can improve the performance of BER(Bit Error Rate) in WMNs with compared to the conventional technique.
