  • The denture may be fractured accidentally by an impact while outside the mouth, or may be cracked or broken while in service in the mouth. The latter is generally a fatigue failure caused by repeated flexure over a period of time. This investigation compared the flexural fatigue resistance, the impact force and the transverse strength of two denture base materials with and without the grid strengthener, the T300, the T800 and the Kevlar fiber to evaluate the fracture resistance. The distribution and behavior of fibers across fracture lines were examined by Hi-Scope Compact Microvision System. Through analyses of the data from this study, the following conclusions were obtained. 1. The flexural fatigue resistance, impact strength and transverse strength of high impact strength resin were higher than those of conventional heat polymerizing resin, but statistically there was no significant difference(p>0.05). 2. All specimens with and without the grid strengthener did not show significant differences in the flexural fatigue, the impact and the transverse strength test(p>0.05). 3. All specimens reinforced with the T300, the T800 and the Kevlar fiber showed significant increase of the fatigue resistance and the impact force(p<0.05). 4. All specimens reinforced with the T800 and the Kevlar fiber showed significant increase of the transverse strength(p<0.05). 5. All specimens reinforced with the T300, the T800 and the Kevlar fiber exhibited greenstick fractures. The fibers tended to remain enveloped in the resin, resisting pull-out.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the various processes and patterns to build or synthesize class numbers in the 800 class of the Dewey Decimal Classification, Edition 20(1989). The results of the analysis are as follows: 1. The 800(Literature and rhetoric) class in the DDC system is the main class added analytico-synthetic principle positively to an enumerative scheme. 2. The facets to be a n.0, pplied in literature are language literary form literary period ; kind, scope, or medium ; notation 08(collection) or 09(criticism) literary feature, subject, author, etc. 3. In the 800 class, there are the five tables of precedence for literary forms aspects ; specific kinds of persons ; literary, period in relation to the aspects for works treating more than one literary form subforms, aspects and literary periods in the works treating a specific literary form. 4. The basic number synthesis of literary works proceeds through the various facets in the following sequence, as far as necessary for the item : base no. + literary form + literary time or period + kind, scope, or medium + notation 08 or 09 + subform + additional notation from T3C and other tables. 5. In view of the multiplicity of facets, their synthesis formulas take the following order : (1) Works about the literature : base no.(schedule) + language(T6) or form(T3B) (2) Works by or about individual author : base no.(schedule) + form (T3A) + period(schedule) + subform(T3A) (3) Works by or about more than one author, not restricted by language facet : base no.(schedule) + period(T1) ; base no.(schedule) + kind, scope, medium(T3B), or feature(T3C), or person(T5). (4) Works by or about more than one author, restricted by language facet : base no.(schedule) + form (T3B) + period(schedule) + subform(T3B) + notation 08 or 09(T3B) ; base no.(schedule) + notation 08 or 09(T3B) + 9(T3C) + area notation(T2) : base no.(schedule) + form (T3B) + notation 008 or 009(T3B) : base no.(schedule) + form (T3B) + kind, scope, medium(T3B) + notation 08 or 09(T3B) + period(schedule). (5) Affiliated literatures for which period numbers are not us base no.(schedule) + form (T3A or T3B), or notation 08 or 09(T3B) : base no.(schedule) + kind, scope, medium(T3B), feature(T3C), or person(T5) 6. The problems in the number building of the 800 class are the complexity and difficulty of number synthesis, the intrinsic weakness of from distinction and the inconvenience of retrieval inherent in the form class. In order to solve these problems, therefore, the citation orders and methods of DDC should be improved and synthesis patterns simplified from the point of view of its applicability and its usefulness in the "literature class".

  • We report a successful fabrication of $high-J_c\;NdBa_2Cu_3O_{7-{\delta}}$ (NdBCO) films on $SrTiO_3$(STO) (100) substrates by pulsed laser deposition (PLD) in a relatively wide processing window. Under various oxygen pressures controlled by either 1%$O_2$/Ar mixture gas or pure $O_2$ gas, strongly c-axis oriented NdBCO films were grown at the substrate temperature $(T_s)\;of\;800^{\circ}C$ in 800 mTorr with 1%$O_2$/Ar gas and also in 400 and 800 mTorr with pure $O_2$ gas. These samples exhibited $T_c$ values over 90K and $J_c$ values of $2.8-3.5MA/cm^2$ at 77K in self-field (77K, sf). On the other hand, $J_c$ values over $1A/cm^2$ were obtained at the temperature regions of $700-830^{\circ}C$ in 800 mTorr with 1%$O_2$/Ar gas at those of $750-830^{\circ}C$ in 800 mTorr with pure $O_2$ gas. Unlike previous reports, resent results support that the PLD processing window for high-Jc NdBCO films is not narrow.

  • This study aimed to present a method to effectively suppress metal artifacts caused by spinal fusion surgery during spinal MRI study. For this purpose, a phantom made of spinal surgery screws was created to reproduce the metal artifact. Then, images were acquired with 1.5T and 3.0T MRI to evaluate changes in metal artifacts according to magnetic field strength. In addition, metal artifacts were evaluated by increasing the receive bandwidth to 200, 400 and 800 Hz/PX. As a result, metal artifacts occurring in images obtained from the 1.5T MRI decreased by approximately 52.2% compared to images obtained from the 3.0T MRI, showing a significant difference (p<0.05). In particular, the signal loss and signal pile up areas were reduced by approximately 52.81% and 42.71%, respectively, showing a significant effect in suppressing metal artifacts. On the other hand, when images were acquired while increasing the receive bandwidth from 200 to 800 Hz/PX, there was no significant effect, with a decrease of up to 8.93% for the 1.5T MRI and up to 10.98% for the 3.0T MRI (p>0.05). As a result of this study, increasing the receive bandwidth reduced signal loss and reduced some metal artifacts, but did not have a significant effect because it did not suppress signal pile up. However, when the magnetic field strength was reduced from 3.0T to 1.5T, signal loss and signal pile up were greatly reduced, effectively improving the metal artifact. Therefore, in order to suppress metal artifacts caused by spinal fusion surgery, study using a low magnetic field MRI can be said to be the most effective method.

  • To investigate the effects of octylphenol and nonylphenol on the reproduction of the striped field mouse, the mice were subcutaneousely injected with 4-t-octylphenol 800 mg/kg (OP800), nonylphenol 900 mg/kg (NP900) or OP800 + NP900 (OPNP), respectively, in two times a week for 2 months. As the results, there were no differences between the control and the compound-treated groups in the body weight in both sexes, and the GSI (gonadosomatic index) and SVI (seminal vesicles index) in the adult males. But histological abnormalities of the reproductive organs in the mice seems to be related to the compound. This suggestion is supported by the facts that most mice treated with the compounds had only a small number of spermatozoa in the shrunken epididymal tubules. In addition, the shrunken reproductive organ in one mouse treated with the NP, suggests that the abnormalities in the wild striped field mice might be induced by the compound. Furthermore, it is indicated that the compounds must be toxicants to inhibit pregnancy, judging from the fact that all the mice treated with the compounds had failed to deliver.

  • In vitro studies were undertaken to develop an appropriate fibrolytic enzymes cocktail comprising of cellulase, xylanase and ${\beta}$-D-glucanase for maize stover with an aim to increase its nutrient utilization in sheep. Cellulase and xylanase added individually to ground maize stover at an increasing dose rates (0, 100, 200, 400, 800, 1,600, 3,200, 6,400, 12,800, 25,600, 32,000, 38,400, and 44,800 IU/g DM), increased (p<0.01) the in vitro dry matter digestibility and in vitro sugar release. The doses selected for studying the combination effect of enzymes were 6,400 to 32,000 IU/g of cellulase and 12,800 to 44,800 IU/g of xylanase. At cellulase concentration of 6,400 IU/g, IVDMD % was higher (p<0.01) at higher xylanase doses (25,600 to 44,800 IU/g). While at cellulase doses (12,800 to 32,000 IU/g), IVDMD % was higher at lower xylanase doses (12,800 and 25,600 IU/g) compared to higher xylanase doses (32,000 to 44,800 IU/g). At cellulase concentration of the 6,400 to 32,000 IU/g, the amount of sugar released increased (p<0.01) with increasing levels of xylanase concentrations except for the concentration of 44,800 IU/g. No effect of ${\beta}$-D-glucanase (100 to 300 IU/g) was observed at lower cellulase-xylanase dose (cellulase-xylanase 12,800 to 12,800 IU/g). Based on the IVDMD, the enzyme combination cellulase-xylanase 12,800 to 12,800 IU/g was selected to study its effect on feed intake and rumen fermentation pattern, conducted on 12 rams (6 to 8 months; $20.34{\pm}2.369$ kg body weight) fed 50% maize stover based TMR. The total volatile fatty acids (p<0.01) and ammonia-N concentration was higher in enzyme supplemented group, while no effect was observed on dry matter intake, ruminal pH and total nitrogen concentration.

  • When baking, the proper blending or mixing of materials will affect the quality of the product. The mixing strength is important when establishing the optimal conditions for batter, and control of the mixing condition is accordingly an important factor. This study investigated the effects of the mixing speed and time on the quality characteristics of a gluten-free type of rice batter. The batter samples manufactured for this purpose are as follows: control (+) (wheat flour), control (-) (rice flour), T1 (1,800 rpm, 1 min), T2 (1,800 rpm, 2 min), T3 (1,800 rpm, 3 min), T4 (3,600 rpm, 1 min), T5 (3,600 rpm, 2 min), T6 (3,600 rpm, 3 min). In this study, rice flour was used in the T1 to T6 samples. The pH of the batter tended to be higher when the mixing speed was slower and the time was shorter depending on the ultra-high mixing conditions. The moisture content of T3 was highest, and there was no difference according to the ultra-high speed conditions. The specific volumes of the ultra-high mixing treatments were higher than those of the control samples. The relationship between the specific volume, hardness and springiness of rice bread according to the mixing speed and time was weak. Therefore, it is considered that the application of ultra-high speeds when manufacturing gluten-free batter can have a positive effect on improving the production efficiency by reducing the processing time.
