Early treatment of anterior open bite: Comparison of the vertical and horizontal morphological changes induced by magnetic bite-blocks and adjusted rapid molar intruders

  • Objective: This prospective clinical study aims to determine the differences between two treatment modalities for anterior open bite in growing patients. The treatment modalities involved the use of magnetic bite-blocks (MBBs) or rapid molar intruders (RMIs) applied with posterior bite-blocks. Methods: Fifteen consecutive patients with a mean age of 11.2 (standard deviation [SD] = 1.6) years and a mean open bite of -3.9 mm were treated with MBBs. Another 15 consecutive patients with a mean age of 10.9 (SD = 1.8) years and a mean open bite of -3.8 mm were treated with RMIs applied on bite-blocks. Cephalometric radiographs were obtained before (T1) and immediately after appliance removal (T2). The treatments lasted four months, during which the appliances were cemented to the teeth. The morphological changes were measured in each group and compared using logistic regression analysis. Results: The MBB group exhibited significantly greater decreases in SNA angle, ANB angle, overjet, and maxillary incisor angle (p < 0.05). The MBBs induced greater effects on the maxilla and maxillary dentition. The MBBs restrained maxillary forward growth and retracted the maxillary incisors more effectively than did the RMIs. Consequently, changes in the intermaxillary relationships and overjets were more distinct in the MBB group. Conclusions: The anteroposterior differences between the appliances suggest that MBBs should be preferred for the treatment of patients with Class II open bites and maxillary incisor protrusions.

BASINS/WinHSPF를 이용한 남한강 상류 유역의 비점오염원 저감효율평가 (A Study on BASINS/WinHSPF for Evaluation of Non-point Source Reduction Efficiency in the Upstream of Nam-Han River Watershed)

  • Window interface to Hydrological Simulation Program-FORTRAN (WinHSPF) developed by the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) was applied to the upstream of Nam-Han river watershed to examine its applicability for loading estimates in watershed scale and to evaluate non-point source control scenarios using BMPRAC in WinHSPF. The WinHSPF model was calibrated and verified for water flow using Ministry of Construction and Transportation (MOCT, 3 stations, 2003~2005) and water qualities using Ministry of Environment (MOE, 5 station, 2000~2006). Water flow and water quality simulation results were also satisfactory over the total simulation period. But outliers were occurred in the time series data of TN and TP at some regions and periods. Therefore, it required more profit calibration process for more various parameters. As a result, all the study was performed within the expectation considering the complexity of the watershed, pollutant sources and land uses intermixed in the watershed. The estimated pollutant load for annual average about $BOD_5$, T-N and T-P respectively. Nonpoint source loading had a great portion of total pollutant loading, about 86.5~95.2%. In WinHSPF, BMPRAC was applied to evaluate non-point source control scenarios (constructed wetland, wet detention ponds and infiltration basins). All the scenarios showed efficiency of non-point source removal. Overall, the HSPF model is adequate for simulating watersheds characteristics, and its application is recommended for watershed management and evaluation of best management practices.

  • 본 연구는 폐플라스틱용기 미디어 산화공법을 이용하여 유체 및 산소전달 효율 향상을 위한 개조 방법과 미생물 부착특성을 향상시키는 방법을 통하여 오수고도처리 함을 목적으로 하고 있다. 또한 실험실 규모의 실험에서 최적의 담체 층진율과 충진 방법을 도출함으로써, 실 규모 설비를 위한 최적 설계 인자와 운전인자를 확보하고, 오수의 고도처리를 위한 다양한 운전조건을 제공하여 폐플라스틱 용기를 미생물 담체로 사용할 경우 생물학적 반응에 의해서 분해 될 때 소비되는 산소량과 오수중에 현탁되어 있는 유, 무기성 부유물과 질소 제거가 이루어지는 메카니즘을 규명하고 오수 처리 효율 향상을 위한 운전인자 도출을 목표로 한다.

물옥잠을 이용한 수중처리방법에 의한 농공단지 폐수처리에 관한 연구 (Study on the Wastewater Treatment by Floating Aquatic Plant System Using Water Hyacinth for the Industrial Complex in Rural Area)

  • Floating aquatic plant system using water hyacinth was applied to examine feasibility as a wastewater treatment system for the industrial complex in rural area. The wastewater from the industrial complex does not likely contain toxic pollutants because the industries which generate wastewater with toxic compounds are not allowed to move in. Pilot plant was installed at Baeksuk Nongkong Danzi in Chunahn-City, Chunchungnam - Do , and field study was performed during summer and fall of 1996. Hydraulic loading rate was 0. $0.19m^3/m^2$.day. The effluent concentration of DO was higher than influent, and it implies that 0.6m depth reactor was reaerated enough to increase DO level. The influent concentration of BOD varied significantly from less than 30 to 120mg/${\ell}$ during the study period, however, effluent concentrations were generally lower than the water quality standard and removal efficiency was up to 85%. The influent concentration of COD also showed wide variation from less than 40 to 160mg/${\ell}$ and effluent concentration was higher than water quality standard when influent concentration was over l00mg/${\ell}$. The influent concentrations of T-N and T-P were lower than water quality standard and no further treatment was required, and these compounds were also removed in the system. Although some improvement and refinement are still required, overall* the floating aquatic plant system was proved to be feasible to apply to treat wastewater from industrial complex in rural area.

자가간호향상을 위한 제왕절개산모의 가정간호 효과 (Effects of Home Nursing Care on Self Care for Early Discharged Mothers Following a Cesarean Section)

  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate the self care focused home nursing' care outcomes of parturient women following Cesarean sections, The subjects included 56 parturient women following a cesarean section, and they were randomly assigned to an experimental group or a control group, The experimental group included women who were discharged early from the hospital. 4-5 days after having a cesarean section. Home nursing care for the experimental group consisted of stitch removal. wound care and education for parturient women. Home nursing care was provided for 2-3 days after early discharge. The outcomes of self care focused home nursing care were measured by self-care competency. Data collection was done by a self-reported questionnaire and by a telephone interview 2-3 days after discharge from the hospital(control) or after home care (experimental) from December, 20, 1998 to June, 10, 1999. The questionnaire consisted of 25 items on 9 self-care domains. Data was analyzed by a t-test. and as $x^2$-test. The study results were as follows: 1. The general characteristics of both groups were similar except for the total number of pregnancies, and whether or not they wanted the pregnancy at this time. 2. The self-care competency scores for the experimental group receiving self care focused home nursing care were higher than the scores for the control group(t=2.361. $p{\le}.05$). 3. There was no significant difference in the rate of OPD visiting, readmission, or emergency room use between the two groups. We concluded that self care focused home nursing care is effective in promoting the self-care competency of parturient women following Cesarean sections. It is suggested that further study is needed with a larger sample to be able to generalize these results.

Minimally invasive percutaneous endoscopic thoracolumbar foraminotomy in large-breed dogs-a comparative study

  • This study aimed to evaluate the feasibility of percutaneous endoscopic foraminotomy (PEF) for the treatment of intervertebral disc herniation of the thoracolumbar spine in large-breed dogs by comparing it with open hemilaminectomy (OH). Six large-breed canine cadavers were used in the present study. A barium and agarose mixture (BA-gel) simulating intervertebral disc herniation was injected into the spinal canal at two intervertebral spaces (T12-T13, L2-L3) of the thoracolumbar spine in each cadaver. PEF and OH were randomly allocated to the sites in each cadaver. Computed tomography was performed pre- and postoperatively. The incision length, vertebral window size, procedure time, and amount of simulated disc material removed were recorded to compare PEF and OH. Both procedures clearly exposed the simulated disc material and spinal cord. The size of the incision and vertebral window created after PEF was much smaller than those after OH. The surgical duration of PEF was longer than that of OH. However, no significant difference (P>0.05) was observed in the amount of BA-gel removed between PEF and OH. Thus, PEF could be used as an effective surgical option for intervertebral disc herniation of the thoracolumbar region in large-breed dogs in that it could lead to less tissue damage as well as sufficient removal of the simulated disc material.

  • 선박에서 발생하는 오수를 처리하기 위하여 연속 회분식 공정을 이용하여 유기물의 제거 특성과 미생물 활성제제 투입에 따른 변화, 반응조내에서 우점하고 있는 Bacillus sp. 균주의 상태를 알아보기 위하여 연구를 하였다. 반응조에서 COD의 제거효율은 98.5%, 암모니아성질소는 90%, 총질소의 제거효율은 95%, 인의 제거효율은 93%로 나타났다. SBR를 이용하여 선박폐수를 처리한 결과 안정적인 처리성능을 나타내었다. 미생물 활성제를 첨가하면 바실러스균의 증식율에 좋은 효율을 타나낼 수 있을 것으로 보인다. $NH_4-N$의 제거율은 활성제 주입량이 많을수록 제거율이 향상됨을 알 수 있으나 T-N의 제거율에서는 차이가 없음을 나타내었다. 반응조에서 바실러스균의 평균 우점율은 24.2% 로 나타났고 각 반응단계에서 안정적인 처리효율을 얻을 수 있어 충분히 우점화 되었다고 판단할 수 있었다.

자연정화공법에 의한 인공습지 하수처리장에서 최적 수생식물의 선정 (Selection of Optimum Water Plant in Constructed Wetland by Natural Purification Method for Municipal Sewage Treatment)

  • 농어촌 등 소규모로 발생되는 생활하수를 자연친화적으로 처리하기 위한 대책의 일환으로 인공습지에 적용되는 최적의 수생식물을 선발하기 위하여 다년생 수생식물 10종을 하수처리장에 식재한 후 하수 처리효율, 처리시기별 수생식물의 생육상 및 무기성분 흡수량 등을 조사하였다. 인공습지 하수처리장에서 하수중 BOD, COD, T-N 및 T-P의 수처리효율은 호기성조를 통과한 호기성조 처리수에서 각각 92%, 74%, 25% 및 57%이었고, 혐기성조를 통과한 방류수에서 각각 96%, 84%, 44% 및 71%이었다. 수생식물 생육 150일 후의 질소 및 인 흡수량은 호기성조에서는 물억새가 각각 17.7 및 2.41 g/plant로 가장 높았으며, 혐기성조에서는 큰고랭이가 각각 8.7및 1.1 g/plant로 가장 높았다. 인공습지 하수처리장의 호기성조에서 최적 수생식물은 물억새>달뿌리풀>갈대의 순이었고, 이들 수생식물은 대부분 뿌리의 발육이 좋은 심근성 수생식물이었고, 여재층 내로 산소를 공급하기 쉬운 통기조직이 발달된 수생식물들이었다. 인공습지 하수처리장의 혐기성조에서 최적 수생식물은 줄>큰고랭이>부들>노랑꽃창포>삿갓사초의 순이었고, 이들 수생식물은 대부분 뿌리의 발육보다 줄기와 잎의 발육이 좋은 천근성 수생식물로서 호기 성조의 최적 수생식물의 역할과는 달리 영양물질의 흡수량이 우수한 수생식물이 선정되었다.

  • 연구배경 : 최근에 ${\gamma}{\delta}$ T 램프구가 결핵균의 항원과 반응함이 알려져 ${\gamma}{\delta}$ T 림프구가 결핵균에 대한 방어기전에 관여할 가능성이 제시되고 있다. 본 교실의 연구와 다른 연구에 의하면 폐결핵 환자의 말초혈액에서 ${\gamma}{\delta}$ T 림프구의 숫적 증가나 기능의 활성화가 관찰되지 않아 폐결핵 환자에서 ${\gamma}{\delta}$ T 림프구는 전신적으로 활성화되지 않고 국소병변에서 방어기능을 나타내는 것으로 생각할 수 있다. 이에 저자들은 일차적으로 결핵의 국소병변으로 조직을 얻기가 쉬운 결핵성 림프절에서 ${\gamma}{\delta}$ T 림프구의 분포를 관찰하고자 본 연구를 시행하였다. 방법 : 조직검사상 결핵성 림프절염(n=5)과 반응성 과형성(reactive hyperplasia) (n=3)으로 진단된 환자의 림프절을 대상으로 CD4, ${\alpha}{\beta}$ TCR, ${\gamma}{\delta}$ TCR에 대한 단일 클론항체를 이용해 면역조직화학검사를 시행하였다. 결과 : 반응성 과형성 림프절에서는 총 T 림프구중 ${\gamma}{\delta}$ T 림프구의 비율이 $1.7{\pm}1.5%$였고 결핵성 림프절에서는 ${\gamma}{\delta}$ T 림프구가 전체 T 림프구의 $16.3{\pm}10.3%$를 차지하고 있어 결핵성 림프절에서 반응성 과형성 림프절에 비해 ${\gamma}{\delta}$ T 림프구의 침윤이 유의하게 증가되어 있었다(p<0.05). 결론 : ${\gamma}{\delta}$ T 림프구가 결핵균 감염 국소 병변부위에서 방어기전에 관여할 가능성이 있을 것으로 생각되고 향후 국소 결핵 병변에서의 ${\gamma}{\delta}$ T 림프구 기능에 관한 연구가 필요할 것으로 생각된다.

Site-selective Photoluminescence Spectroscopy of Er-implanted Wurtzite GaN under Various Annealing Condition

  • The ~1540 nm $^4$ $I_{13}$ 2/ longrightarro $w^4$ $I_{15}$ 2/ emissions of E $r^{3+}$ in Er-implanted GaN annealed at temperatures in the 400 to 100$0^{\circ}C$ range were investigated to gain a better understanding of the formation and dissociation processes of the various E $r^{3+}$ sites and the recovery of damage caused by the implantation with increasing annealing temperature ( $T_{A}$).The monotonic increase in the intensity of the broad defect photoluminescence(PL) bands with incresing $T_{A}$ proves that these are stable radiative recombination centers introduced by the implantation and annealing process. Theser centers cannot be attributed to implantation-induced damage that is removed by post-implantation annealing. Selective wavelength pumpling of PL spectra at 6K reveals the existence of at least nine different E $r^{3+}$ sites in this Er-implanted semiconductor. Most pf these E $r^{3+}$ PL centers are attributed to complexed of Er atoms with defects and impurities which are thermally activated at different $T_{A}$. Only one of the nine observed E $r^{3+}$ PL centers can be pumped by direct 4f absorption and this indicates that it is highest concentration E $r^{3+}$ center and it represents most of the optically active E $r^{3+}$ in the implanted sample. The fact that this E $r^{3+}$ center cannot be strongly pumped by above-gap light or broad band below-gap absorption indicates that it is an isolated center, i.e not complexed with defects or impurities, The 4f-pumped P: spectrum appears at annealing temperatures as low as 40$0^{\circ}C$, and although its intensity increase monotonically with increasing $T_{A}$ the wavelengths and linewidths of its characteristic peaks asre unaltered. The observation of this high quality E $r_{3+}$PL spectrum at low annealing temperatures illustrates that the crystalline structure of GaN is not rendered amorphous by the ion implantation. The increase of the PL intensities of the various E $R_{3+}$sites with increasing $T_{A}$is due to the removal of competing nonradiative channels with annealing. with annealing.annealing.
