The mode of fatigue failure is depended on the characteristics of the fatigue crack initiated and propagated from the weld toe and the weld root in the load-carrying fillet welded joints. The characteristics of fatigue crack are deeply affected by the geometry of fillet and the stress range. The purpose of this study is to investigate critical weld size and stress range in order to occur toe failure under pulsating tension loading in the load-carrying fillet welded cruciform joints.

The butt and the lap welding by friction stir welding performs with $2mm^t$ 1050 aluminum alloy sheet. This paper shows behaviors of property such as vickers hardness, yielding and ultimate stresses, and macro structures for weld zone cross section of the butt and the lap jointed specimens. It is also carried out making comparison with maximum loads, stress-strain diagrams, and deformation after the guided bending test and fracture behaviors between the butt and the lap jointed specimens. It is found that the weldability of the butt jointed specimen is better than that of the lap jointed specimen.

Welding is a well-developed, widely used process for permanently joining metal components. However, the mechanical reliability of welded parts still offers room for improvement. A weld region consists of a fusion zone, a partially melted zone, and a heat-affected zone, and each zone has different material properties. In addition, the geometrical shape of a weld bead or fillet influences the mechanical reliability. A precise structural analysis must consider how a local welded region influences the mechanical behavior of the entire structure. This study focuses on an effective modeling scheme for the weld region. It relies on experimental and numerical methods to determine the proper correlation based on experimental results and to propose a modeling scheme for welded parts.

In this study, as a series of studies aimed at investigating the spatial randomness of fatigue crack growth for friction stir welded (FSWed) 7075-T651 aluminum alloy joints, the fatigue crack growth behavior of FSWed 7075-T651 aluminum alloy joints was investigated for LT orientation specimens. Fatigue crack growth tests were conducted under constant stress intensity factor range (SIFR) control for 5 specimens of the FSWed 7075-T651 aluminum alloy, including base metal (BM), heat affected zone (HAZ), and weld metal (WM) specimens. The mean fatigue crack growth rate of WM specimens was found to be the highest, whereas that of HAZ and WM specimens was the lowest. Furthermore, the variability of fatigue crack growth rate was found to be the highest in WM specimens and lowest in BM specimens.

This paper shows mechanical properties and behaviors of macro- and micro-structures on friction stir welded specimen with 6061-T6 aluminum alloy plate. It apparently results in defect-free weld zone jointed at welding conditions like the traverse speed of 267mm/min, tool rotation speed of 2500rpm, pin inserted depth of 4.5mm and tilting angle of $2^{\circ}$ with tool dimensions such as tool pin diameter of 5mm, shoulder diameter of 15mm and pin length of 4.5mm. The tensile stress ${\sigma}_T=228MPa$ and the yield point ${\sigma}Y=141MPa$ are obtained at the condition of traverse speed of 267mm/min and tool rotation speed of 2500rpm. With the constant rotation speed, the higher traverse speed become, the higher tensile stress and yielding point become. Vickers hardness for welding zone profile were also presented.
The welding residual stresses produced by the welding frequently caused a crack and promote stress corrosion etc. in HAZ(heat affected zone) contained with external load and weakness of material. Therefore, PWHT(post welding heat treatment) is widely used to reduce wekdubg residuss, to relax hardening of heat affected zone and to get rid of impurity. In this study, in order to define the effect on shappes of T-welded joint, during the post welding heat treatment, we have carried out numerical analyses on the several test pieces by using computer program which was based on thermal-elasto-plato-plasto-creep theories for the study. The main results obtained form this study is as follows: 1) The mechanical difference for change the thickness of plate and groove angle did not appear. 2) The distribution modes of welding residual stresses are same on the all test specimens during the post welding heat treatment. 3) In a mecharical point of view, minimum groove groove angle($40^{circ}$) is more suitable than maximum groove angle($60^{circ}$). 4) Therefore, it is appropriate to minimize the size of groove shape in strength and safety.
Cracking problems which high temperature plant components suffer during long-term service, occur very often at welded locations. The crack occurs due to accumulated creep damage near fusion line or at heat affected zone (HAZ). However, most of the studies on creep crack growth behavior have been performed with matrix metal not wit welded metal due to the difficulty of interpreting the test results. In this study, creep crack growth rates were measured with C(T) specimens whose cracks were formed along the fusion line or HAZ. The measured crack growth rates were characterized by {TEX}$C_{t}${/TEX}-parameter derived for elastic-primary-secondary creeping material. Since contribution of primary creep was significant for the tested 1Cr-0.5Mo steel, its effect was carefully studied. Effects of crack tip plasticity and material aging were also discussed.
