  • Recently We make a study of the process expert system model in 2005 process expert system concepts is applied to the digital meister expert system development. Well-designed expert systems imitate the reasoning processes experts use to solve specific problem. Specially, expert systems are used to the engineer in manufacturing industry fur the process control, production management and system management. In this paper, we propose the digital moister expert system fur product design process in manufacturing industry and we present introduction and contents of design process expert system methodology and software far the air purifier design system.

Design and the characteristic analysis of experimental system for automatic control education

  • Since the heat exchange system, such as the boiler of power plant, gas turbine, and radiator require a high rate heat efficiency and the efficiency of these systems is depended on the control methods. However, it is important f3r operator to understand control system of these systems. In order to properly apply control equipment to these process control systems, such as boiler, any other heat process, or process control system it is necessary to understand the basic aspects and operation principle of the process that relate control, interrelationships of the process characteristics, and the dynamics that are involved. Generally, PID controllers are used in these systems but it is difficult for engineer to understand the complex dynamics and the tuning method because of the coupling action and disturbance in the system loop. In this paper, we design an effective experimental system fur automatic control education and analyze its characteristics through experimental system and industrial plant control software to study how they can team automatic control system by experiments.

A Process Model for the Systematic Development of Safety-Critical Systems (안전중시 시스템을 위한 체계적인 설계 프로세스에 관한 연구)

  • It is becoming more and more important to develop safety-critical systems with special attention. Examples of the safety-critical systems include the mass transportation systems such as high speed trains, airplanes, ships and so forth. Safety critical issues can also exist in the development of atomic power plants that are attracting a great deal of attention recently as oil prices are sky-rocketing. Note that the safety-critical systems are in general large-scale and very complex for which case the effects of adopting the systems engineering (SE) approach has been quite phenomenal. Furthermore, safety-critical requirements should necessarily be realized in the design phase and be effectively maintained thereafter. In light of these comments, we have considered our approach to developing safety-critical systems to be based on the method combining the systems engineering and safety management processes. To do so, we have developed a design environment by constructing a whole life cycle model in two steps. In the first step, the integrated process model was developed by integrating the SE (ISO/IEC 15283) and systems safety (e.g., hazard analysis) activities and implemented in a computer-aided SE tool environment. The model was represented by three hierarchical levels: the life-cycle level, the process level, and the activity level. As a result, one can see from the model when and how the required SE and safety processes have to be carried out concurrently and iterately. Finally, the design environment was verified by the computer simulation.

  • The weapon systems development has some distinct characteristics in that a big size of government budget (derived from national tax) has been expended frequently and the completion of the development projects seems to take long. Thus, the impact of the potential changes in the required operational capability on the development activities can induce some type of project risks. As such, proper management of project risk has been one of crucial subjects in the weapon systems development. Although a variety of methods can be considered, an approach based on the test and evaluation (T&E) process has been selected in this paper in order to appropriately handle those potential risks. In the study of the underlying T&E process, the safety consideration (for instance, explosiveness) of weapon systems is also included. To achieve the objective of the paper, a step-by-step procedure is first presented in the analysis of the T&E process. Then, to pursue some enhancement on the process, a set of necessary and useful activities are added in terms of risk and safety management. The resultant process is further analyzed and tailored based on a design structure matrix method. The case study of a tank development is also discussed.

Development of an F-125 Machine Using 3D PLM Systems (3D PLM 시스템을 이용한 F-125 차량의 개발)

  • This paper introduces a project for the development of an F-125 machine using 3D PLM systems including 3D CAD, CAM, CAE, PDM, and DMU systems. Here, the F-125 machine is a formula racing car equipped with a 125cc motorcycle engine. A development process and computer-integrated environment was established using 3D PLM systems on the conceptual basis of concurrent and virtual engineering. A DMU model for a full vehicle was built using CATIA V.5 and used to check interference between parts and to simulate assembly process. This DMU-based approach enables to find and fix manufacturing problems in the early design stage. All development activities have been done by the graduate and undergraduate students of the automotive engineering department of Kookmin University. Through the project, the students could acquire knowledge about car development process and 3D PLM systems in automotive industry.

Process Improvement for PDM/PLM Systems by Using Process Mining (프로세스 마이닝을 이용한 PDM/PLM 시스템 활용 프로세스의 효율성 개선)

  • Process mining is a useful methodology that can be used for extracting user patterns in log files in order to discover efficient or inefficient processes in organizations. In general, it is used to find and reduce differences between pre-defined processes and actually executed processes in an organization. In this paper, we propose a method to improve processes in PDM/PLM systems based on process mining. In order to improve and detect the inefficient processes, we gathered event logs from PDM/PLM systems and derived process models using several process mining techniques such as ${\alpha}$-algorithm mining, heuristics mining, and fuzzy miner. By comparing original process models with process mining results, it is possible to detect differences between predefined processes and real ones; thereby we can build improved process models for future application.

An Abstract Machine for a Located Process Model (위치 지정 프로세스 모델의 추상기계)

  • This paper presents a locally deterministic abstract machine for a new process model LocPi which is based on a subset of asynchronous polyadic π-calculus and enriched with locations and process mobility. Our calculus has a primitive for migrating and spawning a process to a location(remote site), but does not explicitly represent the place which a process are running at. Running processes may have names attached with their locations and the communication reductions can occur only on located names. So we present how to assign locations to unlocated names. Without a global channel environment, these located names enable us to locate the place which input actions occur at and output messages should be sent to.

  • Naval ship design and related other activities can be characterized by the complexity of the interactions among products, activities, and disciplines. Such complexities often result in inferior designs, cost overrun, and late-delivery. Hence there exist tremendous interests in both improving the design process itself and optimizing the interactions among design activities. This paper looks at the complexity of designing naval ships thereby leading to the innovation of current ship design practices using design structure matrix. It can be used to induce the optimal ordering of design activities as well as identify sources of complexities. The method presented here identifies coupled design activities useful for reducing the complexity of naval ship design as well as optimally reordering design activities. This paper recommends the use of design structure matrix method suitable for numerically optimizing the concept design process of naval ship, and reducing cost and time required in designing naval ships by modeling and analyzing the design activities and engineering tasks, defined in systems engineering planning documents.

  • To provide more rational design solutions at conceptual design level, axiomatic design method has been applied to solve critical part of a new engineering problem called Mobile Harbor. In the implementation, the Mobile Harbor, a functional harbor system that consists of a vessel with container crane approaches to a container ship anchored in the open sea and establishes a secure mooring between the two vessels to carry out loading and unloading of containers. For this moving harbor system to be able to operate successfully, a reliable and safe strategy to moor and maintain constant distance between the two vessels in winds and waves is required. The design process of automatic ship-to-ship mooring system to satisfy the requirements of establishing and maintaining secure mooring has been managed using axiomatic design principles. Properly defining and disseminating Functional Requirements, clarifying interface requirements between its subsystems, and identifying potential conflict, i.e. functional coupling, at the earliest stage of design as much as possible are all part of what need to be managed in a system design project. In this paper, we discuss the automatic docking system design project under the umbrella of KAIST mobile harbor project to illustrate how the Axiomatic Design process can facilitate design projects for a large and complex engineering system. The solidified design is presented as a result.

A Study on the Application of AHP to Design Decision Model on Fuzzy System (퍼지시스템을 토대로한 디자인 결정모델에서 AHP 적용에 관한 연구)

  • As a part of study to develop a building design support system for architectural designer's design decision process, the drawbacks of fuzzy system-based design decision model suggested in the previous study have been made up for. A method of logically taking the characteristic and impact of design elements into designing HVAC type was suggested. For purpose of mirroring HAVC designer's working process, a model was developed using AHP, a way of decision making process in the inference process of optimum design values.
