Feature extraction from contour map and construction of layer (등고선 지도로부터 특징 추출과 레이어 구성)

  • In conventional geographic mapping system, it is needed to input many already existing geographic map into computer system for secure and efficient maintence. Because of large map data, it is required to construct layers from map image for easy display, fast retreval and efficient storage. Thus this paper represents a method of the extracting features from contour map and constructing three layers. The layers are symbol, building, contour line. Experimental results are presented confirming the method's high extraction.

Effects of 3-Steps Mind Map Activities on the System Thinking of Science Gifted Students: Focused on the Astronomy Contents (3단계 마인드맵 활동이 과학영재 학생들의 시스템 사고 향상에 미치는 효과 : 천문 내용을 중심으로)

  • This study is focused on how the science gifted students can improve their system thinking by applying 3-steps mind map activities about astronomy contents. Through the pre-study two times, 9 students in 6th grade were participated in this study. It was analyzed the degree of improvement of systems thinking through the science gifted students' mind maps, causal maps and their interviews. The results of the study showed that the experimental group's system thinking who learned 3-steps mind map activities was more complex and diverse than the controlled group's. Therefore 3-steps mind map activities that have been developed in this study will be valuable as an alternative to improve their system thinking. Through this study, 3-steps mind map activities were confirmed that by inducing background knowledge activation and thinking systematization can be an alternative to improve the system thinking of science gifted students. So the 3-steps mind map activities can be helpful in cultivate human resources with creative problem solving ability based on their system thinking.

  • LBS(Location Based Service) and GIS (Geographic Information System) are supporting necessary services for system which provides geographic information using location information based on various platforms. However the mobile computing environments such as PDA system have serious limitations in functional viewpoints compare of general computing environments, it has problems for developing GIS system which is providing various information. In this paper, we suggest the reduced methods of digital map and format of web-linked digital mao in order to fit in mobile environment. As a result of map generation, the total capacity of the supported digital map was diminished about $99.34\%$ than the original map.

  • An autonomous driving system based on a precise digital map is developed. The system is implemented to the Hyundai's Tucsan fuel cell car, which has a camera, smart cruise control (SCC) and Blind spot detection (BSD) radars, 4-Layer LiDARs, and a standard GPS module. The precise digital map has various information such as lanes, speed bumps, crosswalks and land marks, etc. They can be distinguished as lane-level. The system fuses sensed data around the vehicle for localization and estimates the vehicle's location in the precise map. Objects around the vehicle are detected by the sensor fusion system. Collision threat assessment is performed by detecting dangerous vehicles on the precise map. When an obstacle is on the driving path, the system estimates time to collision and slow down the speed. The vehicle has driven autonomously in the Hyundai-Kia Namyang Research Center.

  • The telecommunication technology in the 21st century has come up to the standard which could transmit various spatial information by means of on-line and the printing technology using computers has been on a par with presswork in quality. In addition, map users also would like to get various spatial information through on-line directly or indirectly. None the less, the supply system of national base map in our country has maintained the off-line sales method. It is owing to this reason that the nation's supply system has shown a high degree of inefficiency from the viewpoint of the inventory control, rapidity, and economical efficiency as compared with the on-line sales system in the developed countries.   • Telematics, one of the so-called New Growth Engine of IT839, is a leading IT service where wireless internet service represented by information and mobility is extended to the area of transportations to provide Telematics service. The killer-application of Telematics is navigation system. Recently, due to the mass storage conversion, the performance of the terminal and mobile communications technology development, navigation system is also changed. It more and more develops into 3D in a preexistence 2D map. In the future, it is expected to include the remote sensing map. There is also the characteristic of all the information expressed in frequently a change partially happening. That is, POI(Point Of Interest) which is freshly registered or is deleted is many. In a preexistence, MCP(Map Contents Providers) offer the new version map by off-line monthly or quarterly. And a user wastes time and is inconvenient because of updating the total map by the off-line. Thus, in this paper, in order to resolve this, we describe MCP-MAUS(Maus Air Update Server) interface for updating only the partial map that was changed.

  • The study is aimed at extraction of the groundwater potential area using the Geographic Information System. The study was to develop techniques of the thematic mapping such as slope map, geologic map, soil map and suitability mapping for grotential area. There thematic maps were combined and weightages were given to produce suitability map for groundwater potential area. The results of this study are as follows. 1) The 78% of cased wells have releation to lineament coincided with the appraisement point of the suitability map. 2) The 9 sites of 18 test sites produced over than 200 m$^3$/day. The with the highest appraisement point of the suitability map. 3) Suitability map is effective to extract groundwater potential area which can not be extracted from the remotely sensed data. The developed suitability mapping techniques are expected to do as an important tool for exploration and development of the newable and unnewable resources such as groundwater, petroleum etc.

Localization of a Monocular Camera using a Feature-based Probabilistic Map (특징점 기반 확률 맵을 이용한 단일 카메라의 위치 추정방법)

  • In this paper, a novel localization method for a monocular camera is proposed by using a feature-based probabilistic map. The localization of a camera is generally estimated from 3D-to-2D correspondences between a 3D map and an image plane through the PnP algorithm. In the computer vision communities, an accurate 3D map is generated by optimization using a large number of image dataset for camera pose estimation. In robotics communities, a camera pose is estimated by probabilistic approaches with lack of feature. Thus, it needs an extra system because the camera system cannot estimate a full state of the robot pose. Therefore, we propose an accurate localization method for a monocular camera using a probabilistic approach in the case of an insufficient image dataset without any extra system. In our system, features from a probabilistic map are projected into an image plane using linear approximation. By minimizing Mahalanobis distance between the projected features from the probabilistic map and extracted features from a query image, the accurate pose of the monocular camera is estimated from an initial pose obtained by the PnP algorithm. The proposed algorithm is demonstrated through simulations in a 3D space.
