The use of air-conditioning systems for cooling in residential buildings has negative effects on the environment and causes the problem in peak electric power demand in summer. The objective of this study is to demonstrate the potential of radiant cooling systems using ondol as an alternative cooling system in our residential buildings. Computer simulation has been performed for the floor radiant cooling system performance. The results of this study show that. 1) This system can control the temperature of Ondol room within comfort limits. 2) This system can be operated with a little risk of condensation but the control of latent heat will make this system more potential.
The purpose of this research lays on examining the adequacy of the hybrid ventilation system. The hybrid ventilation system must satisfy the next to be used. Firstly, the cold-draft phenomenon must not exist in the occupied zone. Secondly, the condensation must not happen on the surfaces of vents. Thirdly, the flow of make-up air must be happened in an each space by exhausted air of a rest room and living room. We used an examination and CFD method to verify these. Trough the examination of air-vents, We confirmed that the cold-draft to be induced by make-up air does not happen and could not find the condensation in the limits of outdoor temperature higher than 265K. Through CFD simulation, We confirmed that the rapid temperature change existed only within 0.5m the occupied zone and the flow of air was happened in an each space by only exhausted air in the rest room and living room. Consequently, the hybrid system is possible method to an apartment house.

In this study, computer simulation programs were developed for single-stage, two-stage, and three-stage condensation heat pumps and their performance with CFC11, HCFC123, HCFC141b was examined under the same external conditions. The results showed that the coefficient of performance(COP) of an optimized 'non-split type' three-stage condensation heat pump is 25-42% higher than that of a conventional single-stage heat pump. The increase in COP, however, differed among the fluids tested. The improvement in COP is largely due to the decrease in average LMTDs in condensers, which results in the decrease in thermodynamic irreversibility in heat exchange process. For the three-stage heat pump, the highest COP is achieved when the total condenser area is evenly distributed among the three condensers. For the two-stage heat pump, however, the optimum distribution of the total condenser area varies with an individual working fluid. For the three-stage system, 'splitting the condenser cooling water'for the use of intermediate and high pressure subcoolers helps increase the COP further. When the individual cooling water entering the intermediate and high pressure subcoolers is roughly 10% of the total condenser cooling water, the maximum COP is achieved showing roughly an 11% increase in COP as compared to that of the 'non-split type' heat pump.
A study has been conducted to provide the experimental information for the velocity and temperature profiles of steam-air mixutre and to investigate their roles on the film condensation with wavy interface. Saturated gas mixture of steam-air was made to flow through the nearly horizontal$(4.1^{\circ})$ square duct of 0.1m width and 1.56m length at atmospheric pressure, and was condensated on the bottom cold plate. The air mass fraction in the gas mixture was changed from zero(W =0, pure steam) to one(W =1, pure air), and the bulk velocity was varied from 2 to 4 m/s. Water film was injected concurrently to investigate the effect of wavy interface on the condensation. The velocity and temperature profiles were measured by LDA system and thermocouples along the three parameters ; air mass fraction, mixture velocity and film flow rate. The profiles moved toward the interface with increasing steam mass fraction, mixture velocity and film flow rate. The Prandtl and Schmidt numbers were near one in the present experimental range, however there was no complete similarity between the velocity and temperature profiles of gas mixture. And the heat transfer characteristics and interfacial structure were coupled with each other.
Condensation heat transfer and pressure drop of R245fa were investigated experimentally in a plate-shell heat exchanger which consisted of thirty seven counter flow channels formed by thirty-eight plates with a chevron angle of $50^{\circ}$. The upflow of the water in one channel receives heat from the downflow of R245fa in the other. The effects of refrigerant mass flux, imposed heat flux, refrigerant saturation pressure, and mean vapor quality on the heat transfer characteristics were explored in detail. Experimental correlations were proposed to predict the condensation heat transfer coefficient and friction factor in terms of the Boiling number, Reynolds number, and Prandtl number. In the experiments, the mean vapor quality in the refrigerant channel was varied from .22 to .82, mass flux from 3 to $5kg/m^2$, imposed heat flux from 1 to $3kW/m^2$, and system pressure from .61 to .81 MPa.
In order to investigate the role of protein kinase C (PKC) in chondrogenic differentiation, we examined the localization of PKC isoforms in a limb bud micromass culture system. PKC$\alpha$ is specifically localized in the regions which would become cartilage nodules, while PKC$\lambda/l$ and $\zeta$ display widespread distribution in the whole culture. Distribution of PKC$\alpha$ change along with promotion or inhibition of chondrogenesis by lysophosphatidylcholine or phorbol 12-myristate 13-acetate. On the other hand, localization of PKC$\lambda/l$ or $\zeta$ a was not changed by the modulation of chondrogenesis. Peanut agglutinin binding protein which is associated with cell aggregation during chondrogenesis was present in the cell condensation regions and its expression in those regions was influenced by PKC activity. Expression of fibronectin and N-cadherin in the cell condensing area were also affected by modulation of PKC activity. These results suggest involvement of PKC$\alpha$ in the cell condensation, possibly through regulating expression of fibronectin and N-cadherin.
The SMART (System-integrated Modular Advanced ReacTor) is an integral-type small modular reactor developed by KAERI (Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute). This paper discusses the feasibility and applicability of a 3D-based equivalent model using dynamic condensation method for seismic analysis of a SMART control rod drive mechanism. The equivalent model is utilized for complicated seismic analysis during the design of the SMART. While the 1D-based beam-mass equivalent model is widely used in the nuclear industry for its calculation efficiency, the 3D-based equivalent model is suggested for the seismic analysis of SMART to enhance the analysis accuracy of the 1D-based equivalent model while maintaining its analysis efficiency. To verify the suggested model, acceleration response spectra from seismic analysis based on the 3D-based equivalent model are compared to those from the 1D-based beam-mass equivalent model and experiments. The accuracy and efficiency of the dynamic condensation method are investigated by comparison to analysis results based on the conventional modeling methodology used for seismic analysis.
In the present study, we investigated the velocity distribution, temperature distribution and condensation characteristics of steam jet issuing from four different orifice nozzles with a Reynolds number of approximately 79,000 using the phase Doppler particle analyzer system and a K-type thermocouple. The steam jet discharged from the orifice nozzle has a wider jet width compared to pipe nozzle because of the vena-contracta which can enhance the mixing of steam jet with the ambient air. Therefore, the orifice jet showed less condensation due to its wideness, resulting in small velocity decay rate and large temperature decay rate due to momentum conservation and decreased latent heat release compared to pipe nozzle, respectively. Also, the wider jet width of the orifice jet resulted in larger velocity and temperature spread rate compared to the pipe jet. In addition, the increase in the aspect ratio of the orifice jet led to more condensation and larger velocity spread rate and temperature spread rate due to both the vena-contracta and axis-switching effect, resulting in the increase of jet entrainment.
The Safety depressurization System(SDS) of KNGR prevents RCS from overpressurization by discharging high pressure and temperature coolant through the I-sparger into the IRWST during an accident. If IRWST water temperature rise locally, around the sparger, beyond $200_{\circ}$2000 F by the discharged coolant, unstable steam condensation can cause large pressure load on the IRWST wall. To investigate whether this condition can be avoided for the design basis event IOPOSRV(Inadvertent Opening of one Pilot Operated Safety Relief Valve), the flow and temperature distribution of water in the IRWST is calculated by using CFX 4.3 computational fluid dynamic code. According to the results, since pool water temperature does not exceeds temperature limit within 50 seconds after the opening of one POSRV, it can be assured that the integrity of IRWST wall is maintained.
