  • The structure of a power distribution system will change in a loop configuration such as in the case of a smart grid. If power distribution system changes radial to loop form, the structure may have to be changed significantly. Therefore, we analyzed the reliability indices and calculated a CIC(Customer Interruption Cost) for the loop power distribution system. The power distribution system reliability depends on the protection scheme. This study is applied to the current protection scheme method and is compared with each model. When the CIC was evaluated, most studies performed calculations only for sustained interruptions. However, in actuality, momentary interruption frequencies occurred more than sustain interruptions. Thus, it is occurred the CIC additively. Therefore, we evaluated a CIC including momentary interruption, for each model, and then compared with MAIFI(Momentary Average Interruption Frequency Index)

  • This paper presents a novel objective function for distribution system reconfiguration for reliability enhancement. When islanding operations of distributed generators is prohibited, faults in the feeder interrupt the operation of distributed generators. For this reason, we include the customer interruption cost as well as the distributed generator interruption cost in the objective function in the network reconfiguration algorithm. The network reconfiguration in which genetic algorithms are used is implemented by MATLAB. The effect of the proposed objective function in the network reconfiguration is analyzed and compared with existing objective functions through case studies. The network reconfiguration considering the proposed objective function is suitable for a distribution system that has a high penetration of distributed generators.

  • When a failure occurs in active distribution system, it will be isolated through the action of circuit breakers and sectionalizing switches. As a result, the network might be divided into several connected components, in which distributed generations could supply power for customers. Aimed at decreasing customer interruption cost, this paper proposes a theoretically optimal island partition model for such connected components, and a simplified but more practical model is also derived. The model aims to calculate a dynamic island partition schedule during the failure recovery time period, instead of a static islanding status. Fluctuation and stochastic characteristics of the renewable distributed generations and loads are considered, and the interruption cost functions of the loads are fitted. To solve the optimization model, a heuristic search algorithm based on the hill climbing method is proposed. The effectiveness of the proposed model and algorithm is evaluated by comparing with an existing static island partitioning model and intelligent algorithms, respectively.

  • The performance of copper-tungsten for electrodes used in an ultra high voltage interruption system was evaluated by means of an interruption test, which requires a large-scale apparatus and high cost. In this study, prior to the interruption test, the characteristics of a Cu-W electrode were estimated through the DC arc test, which is a simple, low cost procedure. The DC arc characteristics of a 20wt%Cu-80wt%W electrode were investigated with the change of tungsten powder size distribution and the addition of nickel. In specimens containing a high volume fraction of large sized tungsten particles, the relative density and hardness of sintered Cu-W electrodes increased while the electrical conductivity and the DC arc resistance decreased. Furthermore, the relative density became enhanced with the increase of the amount of nickel while the hardness and electrical conductivity diminished and the DC arc resistance worsened.

  • As the power industry moves towards open competition, a need has arisen for appropriate methodology to evaluate power system reliability by using customer Interruption costs. This paper presents an assessment of the interruption costs by industrial customer type in Korea using customer survey methodology. When various research results are examined, the customer damage survey methodology becomes much more generalized. Especially, in the case of industrial customers, it is known that evaluation by the customer damage survey is more useful. Accordingly, this paper selected the customer damage survey method to evaluate the interruption costs by industrial customer type in Korea considering interruption and customer characteristics.

  • This paper presents an optimal operating strategy of distributed generation (DG) with reliability worth evaluation of distribution systems. Using DG for peak-shaving unit could reduce the overall system operating cost, and using DG for standby power unit could reduce the customer interruption cost. If DG operating cost is less than utility power cost in peak time, DG should be running to reduce the overall system operating cost. When customer interruption cost enlarges, however, standby power strategy may be the better operating strategy than peak-shaving strategy. Selection of whether DG should be operated for peak-shaving or for standby power, needs the accurate reliability worth evaluation and the accurate power cost evaluation. Instead of using annual average reliability worth, the concept of hourly reliability worth is introduced in this paper to determine the optimal operating decision of DG. Applying suggested hourly reliability worth, the distribution companies that possess DG could set up the optimal operating strategy of DG.

  • This paper estimates interruption cost assessment for industrial load. For executing In this way first, we research customer interruption cost(CIC) for industrial load about 1,026 unit. And to assess industrial load in D/L calculate sector customer damage function(SCDF) using CIC. Second, we compute distribution reliability through annual failure rate, repair time and so on, and then, Third, distribution system that calculate VBDRA for industrial load per alternative assesses interruption cost.

  • Electric power is an important element in any modern economy. The availability of a reliable power supply at a reasonable cost is important for the economic growth and development of a country. Electric power utilities throughout the world therefore strive to meet customer demands economically with high quality and reliability. As the power industry moves towards open competition, therefore, there has been a call for a methodology by which to evaluate power system reliability through the use of customer interruption characteristics. This paper presents the results of an investigation and analysis of interruption characteristics of an industrial customer in Korea. This study used a direct visit survey to determine the investigation and analysis of electric service quality and the characteristics of industrial customers in Korea. A customer survey conducted throughout Korea via personal interviews of 660 sample customers is presented here. Variation according to characteristics of interruption such as duration, time of day, frequency and day of interruption was also investigated

  • Water interruption is often caused by a rupture in the branch-like singular pipeline. This will cause critical complaints from household and may decrease public service quality. As an alternative of singular pipeline, additional parallel pipeline could be installed for sustainable water supply. This system is called double pipeline system and able to be utilized for water transmission line between treatment plant and distribution reservoir. Construction of double pipeline was thought to increase capital cost, which can be an issue to waterworks authorities. Reducing capital cost was possible by means of installing connectors between two parallel pipelines because of reduced diameter of each pipe. To obtain optimal design condition for connectors, it was necessary to compare water pressure according to accident location, to investigate flow according to connection pipe spacing, connection pipe diameter, and aging of pipe. Reliable and economical connection layouts were determined based on these results. The cost estimation for each design condition was carried out. Cost was approximately reduced by 20 ~ 30 % compared to the double pipeline without connections. In addition to this, connection between double pipelines could expect extra benefits for maintenance since the pipe could be repaired and rehabilitated without interruption.
