  • The human face can provide a great deal of information in regard to his/her race, age, sex, personality, feeling, psychology, mental state, health condition and ect. If we pay a close attention to the aging process, we are able to find out that there are recognizable phenomena such as eyelid drooping, cheek drooping, forehead furrowing, hair falling-out, the hair becomes gray and etc. This paper proposes that the method to estimate the age by analyzing these feature components for the facial image. Ang we also introduce the method of facial image synthesis in accordance with the cange of age. The feature components according to the change of age can be obtainec by dividing the facial image into the 3-dimensional shape of a face and the texture of a face and then analyzing the principle component respectively using 3-dimensional model. We assume the age of the facial image by comparing the extracted feature component to the facial image and synthesize the resulted image by adding or subtracting the feature component to/from the facial image. As a resurt of this simulation, we have obtained the age changed ficial image of high quality.

  • In this paper. we generate a virtual right image corresponding to the input left image by using given RGB texture data and 8 bit gray scale depth data. We first transform the depth data to disparity data and then produce the virtual right image with this disparity. We also proposed a stereo image synthesis algorithm which is adaptable to a viewer's position and an real-time processing algorithm with a fast LUT(look up table) method. Finally, we could synthesize a total of eleven stereo images with different view points for SD quality of a texture image with 8 bit depth information in a real time.

  • Generally, stereo pair images are necessary for 3D viewing. In the absence of quality stereo-pair images, it is possible to synthesize a stereo-mate suitable for 3D viewing with a single image and a depth-map. In remote sensing, DEM is usually used as a depth-map. In this paper, LiDAR data was used instead of DEM to make a stereo pair from a single aerial photo. Each LiDAR point was assigned a brightness value from the original single image by registration of the image and LiDAR data. And then, imaginary exposure station and image plane were assumed. Finally, LiDAR points with already-assigned brightness values were back-projected to the imaginary plane for synthesis of a stereo-mate. The imaginary exposure station and image plane were determined to have only a horizontal shift from the original image's exposure station and plane. As a result, the stereo-mate synthesized in this paper fulfilled epipolar geometry and yielded easily-perceivable 3D viewing effect together with the original image. The 3D viewing effect was tested with anaglyph at the end.

  • Active Appearance Model is a well-known model that can represent a non-rigid object effectively. However, since it uses the fixed appearance model, the fitting results are often unsatisfactory when the imaging condition of the target image is different from that of training images. To alleviate this problem, incremental AAM was proposed which updates its appearance bases in an on-line manner. However, it cannot deal with the sudden changes of illumination. To overcome this, we propose a novel scheme to update the appearance bases. When a new person appears in the input image, we synthesize illuminated images of that person and update the appearance bases of AAM using it. Since we update the appearance bases using synthesized illuminated images in advance, the AAM can fit their model to a target image well when the illumination changes drastically. The experimental results show that our proposed algorithm improves the fitting performance over both the incremental AAM and the original AAM.

  • In this paper, we present a resolution-enhanced computational integral imaging reconstruction method by using boundary folding mirrors. In the proposed method, to improve the resolution of the computationally reconstructed 3D images, the direct and reflected light information of the 3D objects through a lenslet array with boundary folding mirrors is recorded as a combined elemental image array. Then, the ray tracing method is employed to synthesize the regular elemental image array by using a combined elemental image array. From the experimental results, we can verify that the proposed method can improve the visual quality of the computationally reconstructed 3D images.

  • The main feature of this study is to automatically synthesize square images by sending aerial photographs and images from unmanned aerial vehicles (drons). It may be applicable to the cloud server, and to apply analytical algorithms for the suitable purpose of image processing. Drone imaging analysis is a process that can be used in various fields such as finding contaminated area of green algae, monitoring forest fire, and managing crop cultivation.

  • Virtual view synthesis is essential for 3DTV systems, which utilizes the motion parallax cue. In this paper, we propose a multi-step view synthesis algorithm to efficiently reconstruct an arbitrary view from limited number of known views of a 3D scene. We describe an efficient image rectification procedure which guarantees that an interpolation process produce valid views. This rectification method can deal with all possible camera motions. The idea consists of using a polar parameterization of the image around the epipole. Then, to generate intermediate views, we use an efficient dense disparity estimation algorithm considering features of stereo image pairs. Main concepts of the algorithm are based on the region dividing bidirectional pixel matching. The estimated disparities are used to synthesize intermediate view of stereo images. We use computer simulation to show the result of the proposed algorithm.

  • This paper presents a new image rectification method using stereo image pairs to synthesize arbitrary viewing images. The image rectification is a preprocessing procedure that generates a vertically aligned images and makes epipolar lines collinear. The proposed rectification method has more robustness by considering the real situations such as the mismatch of pan angle, tilt angle and vertical shifting of cameras than previous method[5] which considers only pan angle. We evaluate the proposed method by comparison with previous method using synthesized images.

  • This study presents an approach to synthesize multispectral images at a higher resolution by exploiting a high-resolution image acquired in panchromatic modality. The synthesized images should be similar to the multispectral images that would have been observed by the corresponding sensor at the same high resolution. The proposed scheme is designed to reconstruct the multispectral images at the higher resolution with as less color distortion as possible. It uses a regression model of the second order to fit panchromatic data to multispectral observations. Based on the regression model, the multispectral images at the higher spatial resolution of the panchromatic image are optimized by a quadratic programming. In this study, the new method was applied to the IKONOS 1m panchromatic and 4m multispectral data, and the results were compared with them of several current approaches. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed scheme can achieve significant improvement over other methods.

  • Image stitching method is a technique for obtaining an high-resolution image by combining two or more images. In X-ray image for clinical diagnosis, the size of the imaging region taken by one shot is limited due to the field-of-view of the equipment. Therefore, in order to obtain a high-resolution image including large regions such as a whole body, the synthesis of multiple X-ray images is required. In this paper, we propose a rapid stitching method of digital X-ray images using template-based registration. The proposed algorithm use principal component analysis(PCA) and k-nearest neighborhood(k-NN) to determine the location of input images before performing a template-based matching. After detecting the overlapping position using template-based matching, we synthesize input images by alpha blending. To improve the computational efficiency, reduced images are used for PCA and k-NN analysis. Experimental results showed that our method was more accurate comparing with the previous method with the improvement of the registration speed. Our stitching method could be usefully applied into the stitching of 2D or 3D multiple images.
