Thyristor-Based Resonant Current Controlled Switched Reluctance Generator for Distributed Generation

  • This paper covers switched reluctance generator (SRG) and its comparison with induction and synchronous machines for distributed generation. The SRG is simple in design, robust in construction, and fault tolerant in operation; it can also withstand very high temperatures. However, the performance and cost of the SRG power electronics driver are highly affected by the topology and design of the converter. IGBT and MOSFET based converters are not suitable for very high power applications. This paper presents thyristor-based resonant converters which are superior candidates for very high power applications. Operations of the converters are analyzed and their characteristics and dynamics are determined in terms of the system parameters. The resonant converters are capable of handling high currents and voltages; these converters are highly efficient and reliable as well. Therefore, they are suitable for high power applications in the range of 1MW or larger for distributed generation.

  • In this paper, wind power system with direct-driven axial-flux type permanent-magnet (PM) synchronous generator, 10 [kVA], 300 [rpm], is presented. In order to analyze the performance of axial PM generator, finite-element (FE) analysis is used, and the 2-dimensional equivalent model is developed. The steady-state and transient-state characteristics are respectively analyzed at no-load and resistive-inductive loads. The test results of driving characteristics are presented as well. The results are very similar to predicted performance of design. Proposed generator is feasible for use with a small-class wind power applications.

  • In the paper, the permanent magnet synchronous generator of 1.5[MW] output power which is driven directly without gear system is designed by conventional magnetic equivalent circuit method and analyzed by finite element method. We analyzed the characteristics of generator like no load, rated load, short circuit condition and demagnetization of permanent magnet in order to verify the design results by magnetic circuit method. The last, the analysis results of two kinds of rotor types are compared with each other. Especially the THD(total harmonic distortion) of output voltage is examined for the comparison.

  • This paper discusses the electromagnetic and mechanical design considerations to improve the design accuracy and power to mass ratio of multi-stack axial flux permanent magnet synchronous generator (AFPMSG). Design accuracy of multi-stack AFPMSG for direct drive wind turbine application is improved by considering magnetic flux leakages and fringing effect. FEM structural analysis is utilized to increase power to mass ratio of three-stack AFPMSG by reducing the rotor yoke thickness considering magnetic and centrifugal forces and Von Mises stress distribution.

  • This paper deals with the desing method of Superconducting AC Generator (SCG). The establishment of design principle and design procedure of SCG are included in this study. Electric characteristics of SCG, such as synchronous reactance and sub-sub-transient reactance, are specified first as constraints and the size of SCG is calculated. Synchronous reactance and sub-sub-transient reactance are important factors because they determine the steady state and transient characteristics of SCG, respectively. A 20KVA SCG with double-shielded single-rotor is chosen for the case study. The design procedure proposed in this papar will also be applicable to large scale generators.

  • This paper deals with Wound Rotor Synchronous Motor (WRSM) purposely designed for Integrated Starter and Generator (ISG) installed in 42V automotive electrical system. Not only design objective and specifications of WRSM, but its adaptive design to minimize torque ripple and back-EMF Total Harmonics Distortion (THD) are considered. Furthermore, design characteristics of designed prototype have been investigated numerically in terms of torque, back EMF, loss, and efficiency, which are verified by performance comparison with Interior Permanent Magnet Synchronous Machine based on Finite Element Analysis (FEA).

  • This paper describes the design process of three-phase Synchronous generator. stator and rotor were modelled with the result obtained from loading distribution on the provided specification. For proving validity of the result obtained from loading distribution, through Maxwell simulator the first test target values, output and efficiency, Rated speed and etc, were compared with the design result.

  • This paper deals with the design and evaluation of the robust controller for a synchronous generator excitation system to improve the steady state and transient stability. The nonlinear characteristics of the system is treated as model uncertainties, and then the robust control techniques are introduced into the power system stability design to take into account these uncertainties at the controller design stage. The performance of the designed controller is examined by extensive non-linear time domain simulation. It is shown that the performance of the robust controller is superior to that of the conventional PI controller.

  • 본 논문은 동기 발전기 시스템의 정상상태와 과도상태 안정도를 개선하기 위해서 강인제어기를 설계하고 증명하였다. 시스템의 비선형특생은 모델 불확설성으로 다루었고, 강인제어 기법은 제어기 설계에서 이 불확실성을 고려하여 전력시스템의 안정도 설계에 적용하였다. 다자인된 제어기의 특성은 비전형사감영역 시뮬레이션오로 확대하여 검토하였다. 강인제어기의 특성이 고전적인 PI 제어기보다 약20%정도 우수함을 보였다.
