A new type of topology with medium-frequency-transformer (MFT) isolation for medium voltage wind power generation systems is proposed in this paper. This type of converter is a high density power conversion system, with high performance features suitable for next generation wind power systems in either on-shore or off-shore applications. The proposed topology employs single-phase cascaded multi-level AC-AC converters on the grid side and three phase matrix converters on the generator side, which are interfaced by medium frequency transformers. This avoids DC-Link electrolytic capacitors and/or resonant L-C components in the power flow path thereby improving the power density and system reliability. Several configurations are given to fit different applications. The modulation and control strategy has been detailed. As two important part of the whole system, a novel single phase AC-AC converter topology with its reliable six-step switching technique and a novel symmetrical 11-segment modulation strategy for two stage matrix converter (TSMC) is proposed at the special situation of medium frequency chopping. The validity of the proposed concept has been verified by simulation results and experiment waveforms from a scaled down laboratory prototype.
Hiroshi Hara is one of the most famous architect in the history of contemporary Japanese architecture. During the 1970's beginning with the Awazu Residence (1972), he designed a series of symmetrical houses, the so called 'Reflection House'. All the houses in this period were based on the method of 'reflection' and 'inversion', which means a radical reversal of the accepted notion that houses are parts of cities. A concept of "A house within a house" is expanded to "A city within a house". The important spatial characteristics of 'Reflection House' are main internal core and valley-like spaces forming internal urban streets by bringing natural elements and the components of streetscape such as plaza, open space, context of street facades and so on. This procedure is called as embedding 'city' into 'house', Hara mentioned. This paper investigates the outline of the 'Reflection House' and analyses the completed works of housing that were based on the theory. Then in the final part of the paper, the implications of 'Reflection House' and its influence on his later works of following period will be discussed.

Evaluation or the patterning accuracy of e-beam lithography machines requires a high precision inspection system that is capable of measuring the true xy-locations of fiducial marks generated by the e-beam machine under test. Fiducial marks are fabricated on a single photo mask over the entire working area in the form of equally spaced two-dimensional grids. In performing the evaluation, the principles of self-calibration enable to determine the deviations of fiducial marks from their nominal xy-locations precisely, not being affected by the motion errors of the inspection system itself. It is. however, the fact that only repeatable motion errors can be eliminated, while random motion errors encountered in probing the locations of fiducial marks are not removed. Even worse, a random error occurring from the measurement of a single mark propagates and affects in determining locations of other marks, which phenomenon in fact limits the ultimate calibration accuracy of e-beam machines. In this paper, we describe an uncertainty analysis that has been made to investigate how random errors affect the final result of self-calibration of e-beam machines when one uses an optical inspection system equipped with high-resolution microscope objectives and a precision xy-stages. The guide of uncertainty analysis recommended by the International Organization for Standardization is faithfully followed along with necessary sensitivity analysis. The uncertainty analysis reveals that among the dominant components of the patterning accuracy of e-beam lithography, the rotationally symmetrical component is most significantly affected by random errors, whose propagation becomes more severe in a cascading manner as the number of fiducial marks increases

This paper summarizes a development of visualization software for protective engineering in low-voltage power systems. The study is concentrated on the following aspects. First, a software engineering method is applied for designing the object-oriented program. The design and implementation of a Graphic User Interface(GUI) and its integration to a power system framework are developed using object-oriented programming(OOP) in Visual C++. Second, we develop the short circuit analysis module that oriented a low-voltage power system. It is possible to calculate a peak, symmetrical RMS, DC component and asymmetrical fault currents for each time. And it is the first software that can calculate the fault current for single branch of three-phase system. The calculation accuracy is compared with commercial software, and the libraries of low-voltage components are served for convenience use. Third, protective engineering functions are equipped. It is possible to automatically select the circuit breaker which based on the user input characteristics and the fault current calculation and examine the protective coordination. Through the case study, we verified that the developed software can be effectively used to examine the protective engineering in low-voltage power systems.

Background: Walking is a complex activity. The main components of walking include balance, coordination, and symmetrical posture. The characteristics of walking patterns of stroke patients include slow walking, measured by gait cycle and walking speed. This is an important factor that reflects post-stroke quality of life and walking ability. Objective: This study aimed to examine the effect of deep lumbar muscle stabilization exercise on the spatiotemporal walking ability of stroke patients. Design: Quasi-experial study Methods: The experiment was conducted 5 times per week for 4 weeks, with 30 minutes per session, on 10 subjects in the experimental group who performed the deep lumbar muscle stabilization exercise and 10 subjects in the control group who performed a regular exercise. Variables that represent the spatiotemporal walking ability (step length, stride length, step rate, and walking speed) were measured using GAITRrite before and after the experiment and were analyzed. Results: There was a significant difference in the pre- and post-exercise spatiotemporal walking ability between the two groups (p<.05). Furthermore, there was a significant difference in the step rate and walking speed between the two groups (p<.05). Conclusions: Deep lumbar muscle stabilization exercise is effective in improving the walking ability of stroke patients. Therefore, its application will help improve the spatiotemporal walking ability of stroke patients.
Seventy four Holstein heifers were randomly assigned over three trials to PRID-7+PG-6 and Synchromate B-9 regimens to synchronize estrus cycle for embryo transfer. Sexual behaviors; moounting, standing, orientation, chin-resting, sniffing, licking, rubbing and butting, vaginal swelling and mucus discharge were observed between 06-08, 12-14 and 18-20 h on 1st day and 00-02, 06-08, 12-14 and 18-20 h on 2nd day after removal of hormones. Synchromate-B treatment (81.6%) showed higher synchronized estrus rate than PRID treatment (77.8%) during observation period. Standing estrus was observed within 74 h after PG injection in PRID and within 52 h after removal of implant in Synchromate-B. About 68% of heifers in PRID and 74% of heifers in Synchromate-B showed standing estrus between 0-14 h on 2nd day after removal of the hormones. Synchromate-B resulted in a tighter synchrony of standing estrus than PRID. Incidence of average mounting and standing per head during observation period was 22.3 and 16.6 in PRID and 28.1 and 13.6 in Synchromate-B. The PRID showed peak in active mounting at 18-20 h on 1st day, however, the Synchromate-B showed at 0-2 h on 2nd day after removal of hormone. Active standing was shown between 18 h on 1st day to 20h on 2nd day in PRID, however, between 0-14 h on 2nd day after removal of hormone is Synchromate-B. There was slight difference in pattern of active mounting and standing during estrus between PRID and Synchromate-B. Conception rate of synchronized heifers transferred with fresh and frozen embryos by non-surgical and surgical methods was higher in synchromate-B (62.5%) than in PRID (38.5%). Chin-resting showed highest incidence among 6 sexual behavioral components in the both treatments. Synchromate-B showed higher incidence of chin-resting (16.6) than PRID (10.7). Synchromate-B group showed also higher incidence of orientation, sniffing and butting than PRID group. Synchromate-B resulted in more active sexual behaviors than PRID. The pattern of incidence of chin-resting, licking and butting was almost symmetrical in PRID with their peak values at 6-8 h on 2nd day, however in Synchromate-B chin-resting and sniffing was symmetrical with their peak values at 12-14 h on 2nd day after removal of hormone. There was tendency to increase vaginal swelling according to time passage of synchronized estrus in the both treatments. Incidence of mucus discharge in Synchromate-B was slightly higher than in PRID. Twenty to 40% was false negative in conception rate by tall painting before re-estrus day as judged by rectal palpation.

This study investigated verbal behaviors and interactions in the processes of making written test items using paired think aloud problem solving for pre-service secondary chemistry teachers. The processes of making written test items using paired think-aloud problem solving in four small groups consisting of two pre-service chemistry teachers were recorded and transcribed. The analysis of the results revealed that 'item making' for ten subcategories for solver's verbal behaviors were most frequently exhibited regardless of 'integration' among the components of pedagogical content knowledge (PCK). The solver's 'provide', 'modify', 'require agreement', 'ask', 'agree', and 'justify' were also frequently exhibited although fewer than 'item making'. Especially, the solver's 'ask' was more frequently used in 'non-integration', whereas 'justify' was more frequently used in 'integration'. In listener's verbal behaviors consisted of eight subcategories, 'point out', 'ask', and 'agree' were frequently exhibited regardless of 'integration'. Listener's 'ask' and 'agree' were exhibited more in 'non-integration', whereas 'point out' was exhibited more in 'integration'. Many verbal interactions were analyzed to be in 'symmetrical type' more than 'solver-dominant type' or 'listener-dominant type'. 'Symmetrical type' was also more frequently exhibited in 'integration', whereas 'solver-dominant type' was more frequently exhibited in 'non-integration'. There were little differences between 'integration' and 'non-integration' in 'listener-dominant type'. In 23 subcategories of 'symmetrical type', 'ask-provide' and 'point out-justify' were most frequently found. Especially, 'ask-provide' was more frequently found in 'non-integration', whereas 'point out-justify' was more frequently found in 'integration'. 'Point out-modify' was the most frequent in 4 subcategories of 'listener-dominant type', while 'item making-agree' in three subcategories of 'solver-dominant type' regardless of 'integration'. However, only a little of other subcategories of the three types were found.
Multi-storey precast concrete skeletal structures are assembled from individual prefabricated components which are erected on-site using various types of connections. In the current design of these structures, beam-to-column connections are assumed to be pin jointed. Welded plate beam to-column connections have been used in the precast concrete industry for many years. They have many advantages over other jointing methods in component production, quality control, transportation and assembly. However, there is at present limited information concerning their detailed structural behaviour under bending and shear loadings. The experimental work has involved the determination of moment-rotation relationships for semi-rigid precast concrete connections in full scale connection tests. The study reported in this paper was undertaken to clarify the behaviour of such connections under symmetrical vertical loadings. A series of full-scale tests was performed on sample column for which the column geometry and weld arrangements conformed with successful commercial practice. Proprietary hollow core slabs were tied to the beams by tensile reinforcing bars, which also provide the in-plane continuity across the connections. The strength of the connections in the double sided tests was at least 0.84 times the predicted moment of resistance of the composite beam and slab. The secant stiffness of the connections ranged from 0.7 to 3.9 times the flexural stiffness of the attached beam. When the connections were tested without the floor slabs and tie steel, the reduced strength and stiffness were approximately a third and half respectively. This remarkable contribution of the floor strength and stiffness to the flexural capacity of the joint is currently neglected in the design process for precast concrete frames. In general, the double sided connections were found to be more suited to a semi-rigid design approach than the single sided ones. The behaviour of double sided welded plate connection test results are presented in this paper. The behaviour of single sided welded plate connection test results is the subject of another paper.
This study investigated the characteristics of wood tar, produced as a byproduct during the production of charcoal using oak wood by the modified traditional kiln and mechanical steel kiln. The wood tar was analyzed with a number of techniques, including Py-GC/MS, NMR, MALDI-TOF, FT-IR, TG and DSC. The Py-GC/MS analysis indicated that modified traditional kiln generated a higher hydrocarbon ratio in the wood tar than that of mechanical steel kiln. On the other hand, mechanical steel kiln resulted in a higher proportion of phenolic and aromatic hydrocarbon components than that of modified traditional kiln. Those results were also confirmed by NMR analysis. The MALDI-TOF analysis suggested that the wood tar produced in the mechanical steel kiln had a slightly higher molecular weight than the wood tar produced in the modified traditional kiln. In addition, the FT-IR analysis showed characteristic peak of symmetrical stretching vibration of $CH_3$ from the modified traditional kiln while characteristic peaks of the C-C and C-O stretching vibration were observed from the mechanical steel kiln. Moreover, TG and DSC analysis suggested that the mechanical steel kiln is more thermally stable than that of modified traditional kiln. Those findings clearly showed that the method of making charcoal greatly affects the properties of wood tar.

When making conventional removable partial denture for the remaining teeth where the remaining teeth are only on one side, rotation of the denture occurs -in function- on the axis of the connected remaining teeth. If the edentulous portion is long, it becomes harder to obtain retention and stability for the abutment as the importance of the mucous membrane support is elevated. Such movements of denture decrease denture retention and stability, put excessive stress on the abutment, and give bad influence on periodontal health. Therefore, additional implant placement can be of a good choice in gaining additional retention and stability for partial denture. Thus hereby we report this clinical case as successful results were obtained by placing implants symmetrical to the remaining teeth and putting implant-supported surveyed crowns on the implants, allowing the partial denture to be designed to accept varying components and to have suitable path of insertion.
