  • Three synchronization issues, i.e., symbol time, phase, and frequency, have to be properly controlled to achieve distributed beamforming gain. In this paper, the impacts of synchronization errors in distributed beamforming are analyzed for OFDM systems. For symbol timing error of cooperating signals, high frequency subcarriers are more susceptible as compared to low frequency ones. The desired signal loss due to phase and frequency offset is independent of subcarrier number. However, frequency offset is critical in OFDM systems since it leads to interference from the other subcarriers as well as power loss in the desired signal. Performance degradation due to three synchronization errors is shown with various numbers of cooperating signals and offset values. It shows that the performance analysis is well matched with simulation results.

  • In this paper, we propose a high level design architecture of WCDMA(UMTS) base station modem and synchronization algorithms applied to the proposed architecture. Also analysis of each synchronization algorithm and performance evaluation of fixed point designed modem are shown. Since the target system is base station modem, each synchronization algorithm is designed for its stable operation. To minimize implementation complexity, optimum fixed point design for best operation of synchronization algorithms is performed. We performed symbol level link simulation with fixed point designed modem simulator for data rate of 12.2kbps, 64kbps, 144kbps, and 384kbps. We compared performance results to the minimum requirements specified in 3GPP TS 25.104(Release 5). Extensive computer simulation shows that the proposed modem architecture has stable operation and outperform the minimum requirement by 2 dB. The proposed modem architecture has been applied in the implementation of WCDMA reverse link receiver modem chip successfully.

  • In the present, Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access (OFDMA) that wireless access scheme for high speed data transmission is noticed in mobile communication market and OFDMA/TDD scheme will be used combining Time Division Duplex (TDD) scheme based on OFDMA. The Base Station's receiver synchronizes the symbol timing to anyone user's symbol and the other user's symbols have some Symbol Timing Offset (STO). Linear phase shift is occurred by each user's STO in an OFDMA symbol and the Multiple Access Interference (MAI) caused by the summation of each user's linear phase shift degrades the performance of ranging code detection. In this paper, we analyze the ranging code detection performance for each users STO in OFDMA/TDD system. Simulation results show that the more users access and mobile speed increase, the more ranging code detection performance degrades.

  • This Paper Proposes the algorithm for improving the Performance or symbol timing synchronization in hoc terrestrial DTV system. The Gardner algerian is used for symbol timing synchronization has good performance in multipath fading environment but degradation of performance is caused by jitter. Though the amount of jitter becomes more little as narrow bandwidth of loop Inter, convergence speed becomes slower. This paper propose the algorithm that averages out values of loop filter every certain time and gradually reduces the bandwidth of loop filter after estimating offset using this average for the high speed of convergence and reducing the met of jitter. The proposed algorithm has better performance with high speed of convergence and the amount of jitter than conventional method.

  • In this paper, an improved timing synchronization method for OFDM system is proposed. In multipath fading channels, timing offset estimation algorithm based on simple correlation metric can cause inter-symbol interference (ISI). The proposed algorithm promises accurate timing offset estimation, which can be achieved by simple windowing. The estimation errors in several multipath channels are evaluated in computer simulations.

  • In this paper, a fine residual frequency offset estimation scheme is proposed for multiband orthogonal frequency division multiplexing ultra-wideband (MB-OFDM UWB) systems. The basic idea of our approach is based on the fact that two adjacent OFDM symbols carry the identical information in the MB-OFDM UWB system, thus removing the need of pilot symbols. The mean square error of the synchronization scheme is evaluated and simulation results are used to verify the effectiveness of the proposed estimator. When compared to the pilot-aided conventional estimator, the proposed estimator has a lower estimation error.

  • In this paper, to draw out the parameter of synchronization for ADSL(Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line) chip design, we analyze the performance of STR(Symbol Timing Recovery) and frame synchronization with computer simulation. We analyze and design PLL(Phase Lock Loop) loop for ADSL. As a result, we obtained the optimum parameter of STR to design ADSL chip. Also, when performed frame synchronization with several algorithm, we analyzed the performance of FER(Frame Error Rate) and the effect of frame offset with computer simulation.

  • This article presents techniques for improved estimation of symbol timing offset (STO) and carrier frequency offset (CFO) for dual-polarization (DP) orthogonal frequency division multiplex (DP-OFDM) systems. Recently, quaternion multiple-input multiple-output OFDM has been proposed for high spectral efficiency communication systems, which can flexibly explore different types of diversities such as space, time, frequency, and polarization. This article focuses on synchronization techniques for DP-OFDM systems using a cyclic prefix, where the application of quaternion algebra leads to new improved estimators. Simulations performed for DP system methods show faster reduction of STO estimator variance with a double-slope line in the logvariance line versus signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) plot compared with singlepolarization (SP) counterparts, and simulations for CFO estimates show a 3-dB gain of DP over SP estimates for same SNR values defined, respectively, for quaternion-valued or complex-valued signals. Cramer-Rao bounds for STO and CFO are derived for the synchronization methods, correlating with the observed gains of DP over SP OFDM systems.
