  • In this paper, we describe multifunction switch using micro-controller. Nowadays adaptation of automation technology in home and factory is increased rapidly. Utilization of computer is inevitable for implementation of home and factory automation. Accordingly interface technology between user and computer is needed. We present multifunction switch, which provides interface technology for implementation of automation system. And we can use this independently because micro-controller is loaded in this switch. Consequently we can apply this technology simply to the home and factory automation system using sequence control. Also we can apply this technology to various kinds of automation system independently and complexly.

  • In this paper, we study on an implementation of cell scheduler which arbitrates the ATM exchange efficiently and swiftly. The designed ATM cell scheduler of this paper is based on iSLIP scheduling algorithm. It is aimed at the high-speed implementation. The implemented cell scheduler approximately provides 100% throughput for cell scheduling. We present a basic structure for cell scheduler and describe by using the HDL and perform behavior level and timing simulation. The cell scheduler of this paper is designed to support 8-port switch fabric and can expand in 32-port switch fabric. The cell scheduler for supporting the 8-port switch fabric is designed in 2-stage pipelines for the grant and accept stages respectively.

  • This paper is about the characteristic analysis of a heater-trigger HTS switch. It is composed of a BSCCO tape wire and a heater as a thermal quench source. To minimize the heat flow to the liquid nitrigen, the epoxy was used around them. The heater-trigger switch operates in the process that the HTS tape is thermally quenched by the current flowing through the heater. Since the switch works in coolant, it needs to be designed by the accurate thermal characteristic analysis. Here, we focus on FEM for it.

  • Persistent current switch (PCS) system in NMR, MRI, MAGLEV and SMES has many advantages, such as uniformity and durability of magnetic field and reducing a thermal loss, which enable many superconducting application to operate effectively. This paper deals with fabrication and test of heater trigger persistent current switch using coated conductor (CC) which has high n-index, critical current independency from external magnetic field and adaptable selectivity of stabilizer. PCS system consists of magnet power supply for energizing current to a magnet, heater, switch and magnet using coated conductor tape. Finite element method (FEM) is used to simulate thermal quench (switching) characteristic and design heater trigger. With FEM simulation, optimal length of heater is calculated by temperature and time analysis. Fabrication of PCS system and test of heater trigger characteristic were performed and compared with simulation result. This paper would be the foundation of researches of superconducting switching application.

  • This paper presents the architecture of multiple-queue manager for input-queued switch, which has arbitration latency, and the design of the chip. The proposed architecture of multiple-queue manager provides wire-speed routing with a pipelined buffer management, and the tolerance of requests and grants data transmission latency between the input queue manager and central arbiter using a new request control method, which is based on a high-speed shifter. The multiple-input-queue manager has been implemented in a field programmable gate array chip, which provides OC-48c port speed. It enhances the maximum throughput of the input queuing switch up to 98.6% with 128-cell shared input buffer in 16$\times$16 switch size.

  • A microstrip antenna having a dual polarization and a smaller size than feed horn polarizer of F.R.R.S(Faraday Rotation Rotary Switch) is designed, in which GaAs MESFET switches are inserted for selective reception of RHCP or LHCP. For an accurate analysis of the resonance frequency, input impedance and radiation pattern of the circularly polarized microstrip antenna, finite difference time domain (FDTD) method is used. When the GaAs MESFET switch in the feeder is ON-stats, the truncated patch antenna has a gain of about 16.6dB including amplifier gain, while the switch is OFF-state, this has a isolation level of -24dB.

  • The addition of switches to a distribution feeder does, in general, increase reliability by decreasing the duration of the outage of many to the customers on the feeder. To cover its service area so that feeder-level delivery reaches sufficiently close to all customers, feeders typically split their routes many times, in what is often called a lateral feeder. It is interesting to note, however, that the effectiveness of a switch is very much dependent on the types of lateral feeder. The types of lateral are classified into two types. The first is loop lateral feeder that can connect its load to an adjacent feeder through a tie line in case that a fault occurs in its feeder and it is laid out so that every feeder has complete fault backup through re-switching of its loads to other sources like a main feeder. The second is the radial lateral feeder cannot connect its load to an adjacent line, no provision is made for contingency backup of feeders. There are no other circuits in the radial lateral feeder form which to restore power. In this study, we evaluate the effectiveness of a switch installation between on the radial and loop lateral feeders to increase reliability by decreasing the duration of the outage. These results can help power utility to design the switch layouts on the radial and loop lateral feeder system.

  • Multipath ATM switch architectures have the potential to accommodate easily the design of high-speed and large capacity ATM switches which can handle a very large amount of switching throughputs. However, the multipath architecture inevitably encounters out-of-sequence problems. We propose a multipath switch model to analyze the out-of-sequence phenomenon. And we analyze the out-of-sequence performance dependency on the architecture parameters : the number of multipath, the trunk utilization, the switch size, and the number virtual channels/trunk. Indexing terms : ATM switch, Multipath archltecture, Out-of-sequence performance, Cell sequence integrity, Analytical model.

  • A radio frequency(R/F) switch connector is widely used in wireless devices such as mobile phone and navigator to check defects of the circuit board of product. The R/F switch connector shell plays a role in protecting the switch connector. Previously, this part was machined using a turning, which is time-consuming and has poor material utilization. Furthermore, the workpiece material of brass containing lead that has excellent machinability has environmentally regulated during recent years. The purpose of the current study was to develop the connector shell by forming through progressive dies including embossing, burring and forging process in order to achieve higher productivity and dimensional accuracy without tool failure. To accomplish this objective, a strip layout was designed and finite element (FE) analysis was performed for each step in the process. Try-out for the connector shell was conducted using progressive die design based on FE-analysis results. Dimensional accuracy of developed part was investigated by scanning electron microscopy. The result of the investigation for the dimensions of the formed connector shell showed that the required dimensional accuracy was satisfied. Moreover, productivity using the progressive die increased four times compared to previous machining process.

  • To realize channel cross-connecting in optical communications systems, a high speed optical matrix switch was fabricated using z-cut $LiNbO_3$. For switch fabrication was design bending structure and coupling length and four $2{\times}2$ directional couplers were integrated on one substrate far construction of a $4{\times}4$ switch. Single-mode optical waveguides were formed by Ti-diffusion at a wet $O_2$ atmosphere. Ti-diffusion profile, refractive index variation and waveguide morphology were analyzed by Prism coupler and optical microscopy, respectively.
