  • Adaptive channel equalization accomplished without resorting to a training sequence is known as blind equalization. In this paper, we present a auto-switching blind, equalization for 8-VSB HDTV receiver. The scheme operate in two mode : blind equalization mode and decision-directed equalization mode. This proposed scheme changes from the blind equalization mode at high error levels to the decision-directed equalization mode at lower error levels smoothly and automatically. Manual switch from the blind equalization mode to the decision-directed mode is not necessary.

  • Objective: The objective of this study is to understand the effect of angle and curvature of push-return switches, which are external factors in the operation environment inside the cars, on the feel of operation and to propose optimum alternatives. Background: Customers' needs for products are changing from functional and performance aspects to customer-led type where customers can reflect on their needs on the products. The operation inside cars is executed by HMI. The push-return switch is utilized as the most intuitive mode of HMI; therefore, this push-return switch, which is widely used, has to be developed by assessing the preference and satisfaction of the customer. Method: The angle and curvatures, which are external factors that affect the feel of operation, are drawn through surveying the preceding research literatures. The stages to construct alternatives in experiments are as follows: (1) the tactile switch is replaced after dismantling the switch assembly to evaluate the internal characteristics proposed by preceding researches, (2) a drawing is prepared by using a design software, is printed using 3D printer, and then it is attached on the switch assembly, and (3) evaluation for satisfaction of operation is carried out by using a driving simulator. Results: Both the angle and curvature that are external factors of switch significantly affect the feel of operation. However, interaction between the two factors is found insignificant. Therefore, an optimum alternative is proposed considering the experimental outcomes. Conclusion: This study evaluates the satisfaction in operation that affects the feel of operation environment inside the cars. Based on the study results, a guideline for switch design in the center fascia is proposed. Application: This study is expected to be used as basic data for designing automotive switches, as well as switches in the industries similar with the operation environments of cars.

  • Although non-real time simulation and pilot based evaluations are available for the development of flight control computer prior to real flight tests, there are still many risky factors. The control law designed for prototype aircraft often leads to degraded performance from the initial design objectives, therefore, the proper evaluation methods should be applied such that flight control law designed can be verified in real flight environment. The one proposed in this paper is IFS(In-Flight Simulator). Currently, this system has been implemented into the F-18 HARV(High Angle of Attack Research Vehicle), SU-27 and F-16 VISTA(Variable stability. In flight Simulation Test Aircraft) programs. This paper addresses the concept of switching mechanism for FLCC(Flight Control Computer)-SWMC(Switching Mechanism Computer) using 1553B communication based on flight control law of advanced supersonic trainer. And, the fader logic of TFS(Transient Free Switch) and stand-by mode of reset '0' type are designed to reduce abrupt transient and minimize the integrator effect in pitch axis control law. It hans been turned out from the pilot evaluation in real time that the aircraft is controllable during the inter-conversion process through the flight control computer, and level 1 handling qualities are guaranteed. In addition, flight safety is maintained with an acceptable transient response during aggressive maneuver performed in severe flight conditions.

Evaluation of GaN Transistors Having Two Different Gate-Lengths for Class-S PA Design

  • This paper presents a characteristic evaluation of commercial gallium nitride (GaN) transistors having two different gate-lengths of $0.4-{\mu}m$ and $0.25-{\mu}m$ in the design of a class-S power amplifier (PA). Class-S PA is operated by a random pulse-width input signal from band-pass delta-sigma modulation and has to deal with harmonics that consider quantization noise. Although a transistor having a short gate-length has an advantage of efficient operation at higher frequency for harmonics of the pulse signal, several problems can arise, such as the cost and export license of a $0.25-{\mu}m$ transistor. The possibility of using a $0.4-{\mu}m$ transistor on a class-S PA at 955 MHz is evaluated by comparing the frequency characteristics of GaN transistors having two different gate-lengths and extracting the intrinsic parameters as a shape of the simplified switch-based model. In addition, the effectiveness of the switch model is evaluated by currentmode class-D (CMCD) simulation. Finally, device characteristics are compared in terms of current-mode class-S PA. The analyses of the CMCD PA reveal that although the efficiency of $0.4-{\mu}m$ transistor decreases more as the operating frequency increases from 955 MHz to 3,500 MHz due to the efficiency limitation at the higher frequency region, it shows similar power and efficiency of 41.6 dBm and 49%, respectively, at 955 MHz when compared to the $0.25-{\mu}m$ transistor.

  • Switch-mode power supplies (SMPS) have become a major source of conducted electromagnetic interference (EMI) which is the combination between differential mode (DM) noise and common mode (CM) noise. This paper presents the conducted EMI reduction approach in flyback switched mode power supply by rerouting for circuit balance to reduce common mode noise. And differential mode noise can be reduce by adding $c_x$ capacitor across the input power line, and passive element to the gate drive of switching device MOSFET to slow down the switching times. This combination of our approach is the effective way to reduce the conducted EMI and it is also a cost effective for product design

  • This paper presents Active-clamp Class-E high frequency resonant inverter with single-stage. The proposed circuit is integrated Active-c class-E circuit to boost converter with the funct power factor correction. Boost converter is opera positive and negative half cycle respectively at frequency(60Hz), operating in Discontinuous Con Mode(DCM) of boost converter performs high p factor. By adding active-clamp circuit in Cl inverter, main switch of inverter part is operat only ZVS(Zero Voltage Switch), but also reduce switching voltage stress of main switch. Simulation result using Psim4.1 show that the p prove the validity of theoretical analysis. This proposed inverter will be able to be pract used as a power supply in various fields are ind heating applications, DC-DC converter etc.

  • ATM(Asynchronous Transfer Mode)을 기반으로한 BSC(Base Station Controller)를 이용한 무선 이동통신망에서는 크게 MSC, BSC, BTS로 구성 되어진다. BSC는 MSC(Mobile Switch Center)와의 STM-1급 (155.52Mbps) 정합이 이루어지며, 여러 BTS(Base Transceiver Subsystem)와 T1(1.544Mbps)/E1(2.048Mbps)급 정합이 이루어져 호연결, 관리, 제어 및 MT(Mobile Terminal)의 soft-handoff를 담당한다. BSC내의 저속 가입자 I/F에서는 BTS와 BSC내의 ATM switch와의 정합을 수행하면서 VPI/VCI변환, BSC 내부 cell format으로 변환, 그리고 UPC(Usage Parameter Control)등이 이루어진다. 본 논문에서는 ATM switch를 이용한 BSC 내부의 저속 가입자 I/F의 구현에 관해서 살펴본다.

  • $SF_6$ gas has been increasingly used as the insulating and arc-suppressing medium in switchgears which are used as the protection devices of power system. Nowadays, most of power companies adopted the $SF_6$ gas-type load break switch for increasing the reliability of distribution network by its superior durability against external environmental condition, in substitution for air-type and oil-type switches. But, it is important to establish the general estimation process for the testing and estimation for long-term reliability. Accordingly, this paper presents the reliability testing method for $SF_6$ gas load break switch which is based on the analysis of the failure mode and the statistics.

Compact and Temperature Independent Electro-optic Switch Based on Slotted Silicon Photonic Crystal Directional Coupler

  • In this paper, we have proposed a principle to design a compact and temperature independent electro-optic switch based on a slotted photonic crystal directional coupler (SPCDC). Infiltration of the slotted silicon photonic crystal with polymer enhances the slow light and decreases the switching length, whereas the different signs of thermo-optic coefficients of the polymer and silicon make the proposed switch stable within $25^{\circ}C$ to $85^{\circ}C$ temperature range. The SPCDC structure is modified to increase poling efficiency of the polymer in the slot and to flatten the dispersion diagram of the even mode to minimize the switching length.
