  • Hwaseong Fortress was designated as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1997 in recognition of its architectural, cultural, and historical significance. In order to provide a compelling and active experience to the visitors of Hwaseong Fortress more effectively and intuitively, an augmented reality (AR) mobile application is developed. The main objective of this paper is to describe the implementation of AR technology in the developed application; and most importantly, how the application is designed for the visitors to actively and intuitively experience the various architectural and historical contents of Hwaseong. The tour routes and their point of interests were selected carefully after deliberation of their contents. To maximize the user interaction with the application and the architectural contents of Hwaseong, not only the conventional AR technology (marker method), but also the markerless AR method is adopted in the developed application. It is expected that visitors of Hwaseong Fortress enjoy the tour, while learning the architectural, historical, and cultural contents through the active and intuitive interaction with the developed AR mobile application.

  • The experiment was conducted to investigate the effects of vine management and yield on fruit quality and bud burst of 'Campbell Early' grapevines in Hwaseong and Suwon area. The extreme value of minimum temperature of Hwaseong area, frequently causing cold damage, was lower than that of Suwon area in winter. Narrow spacing, overbearing, and poor vine management were observed in Hwaseong area, where the harvest time was delayed by 7 days compared with that of Suwon area. Total carbohydrate content of bearing mother branches was lower with 1.2~1.7%, and the percentage of bud burst was extremely lower at $-15^{\circ}C$. In Suwon area, there were no differences in cluster and berry size, but soluble solids content was lower and skin coloration was poorer when yield was high. Total carbohydrate content was lower when yield was high. The percentage of bud burst was lower at cold treatments below $-20^{\circ}C$. The results suggest that appropriate yield based on fruit quality is 2.3~2.6 MT/10a.

  • Paldalmun gate was built in 1794 as the southern gate of Suwon Hwaseong. The signboard's paintworks of Paldalmun gate was applied to the signboard of the state-run building in the 18th century. The signboard of Paldalmun gate was repainted along with the building when repaired in 1969. In that time, the signboard's paintworks during the reign of Jeongjo era was transformed. The purpose of this study is to restore the image of Jeongjo era paintworks on the Paldalmun's signboard, which has been modified since the 1960s due to modification. For the purpose of the examination, we examined the traces of paintworks remaining on the signboard of Paldalmun gate and examined several state-run signboards decorated with 'Yukhwamoon' paintings similar as the signboard of Paldalmun gate, which made around the 18th century. Through the above-mentioned researches, typical color features were identified in the decorated with 'Yukhwamoon' paintings on signboard in the 18th and 19th centuries. In addition, the type of pigment used in the signboard's paintwork of Paldalmun gate was verified through the 『Hwaseong Seongyeok Uigwe(華城城役儀軌)』 and the 『Han-gul Jeongri Uigwe(한글整理儀軌)』, while analyzing the characteristics of age-related deterioration according to the type of paintworks in various traces of pigment coatings remaining on the signboard of Paldalmun gate.

  • This study was conducted to provide basic data regarding the safety of Hwaseong for women. Data regarding sexual violence awareness and damages were collected from 514 women aged 20 to 65 living in Hwaseong. The results were then compared with national survey data from the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family in 2010 and 2013. Hwaseong is a wide city composed of an urban and urban-rural complex. Data were analyzed to identify regional differences between urban and urban-rural complexes and educational differences between below college graduates and above university graduates. The ratios of awareness of sexual violence behavior, laws, and services were somewhat lower than the 2013 national research ratios. Second, women in the urban-rural complex showed a higher awareness of sexual violence behaviors and higher level of sexual violence myths. Third, the tendencies of sexual violence damages were similar to the 2013 national research. Fourth, women with higher education showed a higher level of sexual violence myths and a higher ratio of sexual violence damage.

  • The objective of this study was to investigate the effect of ultrasound on the extraction of oil from canola seeds when supercritical carbon dioxide ($SCCO_2$) was used as an extraction solvent. The ultrasound-assisted $SCCO_2$ extraction were carried out while varying such operating parameters as particle size of crushed canola seed, flow rate of $SCCO_2$, aspect ratio of the extraction vessel, and ultrasound power. The extraction rate decreased with increasing particle size of samples, showing a maximun at a $CO_2$ flow rate of 6.2 L/min. Both the extraction rate and extraction yield increased with a decrease in the aspect ratio of the extraction vessel. For the ultrasoundassisted $SCCO_2$ extraction, the extraction yield was slightly increased when the $CO_2$ flow rate was below 6 mL/min with sample A and B.

  • As time is rapidly changing, the culture to represent an era is getting more subdivided and complex. Due to cultural diversity, the influence, cause, characteristics which could be understood in individual field centered by space in the past cannot be understood now only by the viewpoint of one field, and it has become difficult to predict and correspond to the change of the future. With the development of information and knowledge delivery system, various cultural contents to form a space are being created and lapsed, but there are a lot of parts which cannot be explained or understood by only one point of view. To inspect these situation, this study is aimed to draw the cultural and technical causes that became the influence with Suwon Hwaseong, a traditional space with historical superiority, analyze the key factors that became the main factor to form the space, and consider the importance of the related factors. Suwon Hwaseong is a new town formed by the order of King Jeongjo. Suwon Hwaseong at that time was a space with the will and effort of many people who dreamed a new era, and it has a meaning of varoius time ans space as historical facts and cultural values as well as the progress and development of scientific technology. The unstructured data technique which is applied as the method of analysis in this study can be said to be a new value judgement and viewpoint in interpreting the space. Therefore, this study is a new trial to provide a frame for multilaterally interpreting the various traditional space and culture of Korea from the past to the present.

  • Chwibyeong is a hedge made into a folding screen shape by setting up supports and placing plants on it. Traces of chwibyeong can be found in various paintings, such as the 『Donggwoldo painting of Changdeokgung Palace』, 『Gyujanggak painting』, 『Munhuimyo painting』, and 『Hwaseong Temporary Palace painting depicting Suwon Hwaseong Temporary Palace』. However, since the Chwibyeong has not survived to this day, the whereabouts of the Chwibyeong were estimated through ancient documents, old paintings, and photographs. In the case of a manned Chwibyeong using a support, a picture related to the composition of the Chwibyeong using a base can be Winnow willow. Methods for creating intoxicants using coniferous trees such as Chinese juniper and Rigid-branch yew have been studied. In existing old paintings, only the supports, parts of leaves, and branches were depicted, so the location of the Chwibyeong could not be confirmed through the drawings. However, in the 『Jungli-Euiguae』, written around 1797, a manned type of Chwibyeong using a support was depicted as the material of the Chwibyeong. By being able to confirm the type of tree used, it was possible to confirm the method of creating a Chwibyeong using Winnow willow introduced in the 『LimwonGyeongjeji』. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to suggest a method of using Chwibyeong to restore by analyzing old literature. For this purpose, first, the process of change in the material of the Chwibyeong was analyzed through the analysis of old documents showing the method of forming the Chwibyeong. Second, the material and composition method of the Chwibyeong were analyzed through the analysis of the picture of "Seongyeok-do" in 『Jungli-Euiguae』, which allows us to understand the form of the Chwibyeong
