Semi-active suspension systems are greatly expected to be in the mainstream of future controlled suspensions fur passenger cars. In this study, a continuous variable damper for a passenger car suspension is developed. It is controlled actively and exhibits high performance with light weight, low cost, and low energy consumption. To get fast response of the damper, reverse damping mechanism is adapted, and to get small pressure change rate after blow-off, a pilot controlled proportional valve is designed and analyzed. The reverse continuous variable damper is designed as a HS-SH damper which offers good body control with reduced transferred input force from tire, compared with any other type of suspension system. The damper structure is designed, so that rebound and compression damping force can be tuned independently, of which variable valve is placed externally. The rate of pressure change with respect to the flow rate after blow-offbecomes smooth when the fixed orifice size increases. Damping forces are measured with the change of the solenoid current at the different piston velocities to confirm the maximum hysteresis of 20N, linearity, and variance of damping farce. The damping farce variance is wide and continuous, and is controlled by the spoof opening, of which scheme is usually adapted in proportional valves. The reverse continuous variable damper developed in this study is expected to be utilized in the semi-active suspension systems in passenger cars after its performance and simplicity of the design is confirmed through real car test.

Purpose of this study is to develop virtual components and environment for developing a controller of an Active Air Suspension System in laboratory that slough off existing development environment using real vehicle test. This paper presents an air spring modeling and analysis of air suspension system for a commercial vehicle. Preferentially, It was performed vehicle test for pneumatic system and an air spring for characteristic analysis of system. Each component of an air spring suspension system was developed through emulations and modeling of system for pressure and height sensors in the basis on test results in SILS environment. Non-linear characteristics of air spring are accounted for using the measured data. Also, pressure and volume relations for vehicle hight control is considered. After performance verification of virtual model was performed, we developed virtual environment based on HILS for an Active Air Suspension System. We studied estimation and verification technology for control algorithm that developed.

In this paper, a self-tuning gain-scheduled skyhook control for semi-active suspension systems is investigated. The dynamic characteristics of a continuously variable damper including electro-hydraulic pressure control valves is analyzed. A 2-d.o.f. time-varying quarter-car model that permits variations in sprung mass and suspension spring coefficient is considered. The self-tuning skyhook control algorithm proposed in this paper requires only the measurement of body acceleration. The absolute velocity of the sprung mass and the relative velocity of the suspension deflection are estimated by using integral filters. The skyhook gains are gain-scheduled in such a way that the body acceleration and the dynamic tire force are optimized. An ECU prototype is discussed. Experimental results using a 1/4-ear simulator are discussed. Also, a suspension ECU prototype targeting real implementation is provided.

In this paper, a simplified model of a hydraulic actuator system for a low-band type active suspension system is derived. To reduce the order of model, time constants of each chamber in hydraulic system are neglected except that of an accumulator. And the dynamics of a spool in the pressure control valve is regarded as a first-order system. The step response and the frequency response of the simplified second-order simulation model exhibit a good agreement with those of the actual system as well as those of the tenth-order simulation model. It is possible to simplify the tenth-order model to the second-order one. The low-band type active suspension model is built up by combining of a quarter car model test rig to testify the validity of the simplified model. The experimental results of suspension characteristics show that the simplified second-order hydraulic actuator model is reasonable to describe the dynamics of the actual hydraulic actuator system for a low-band type active suspension system.

This paper presents some inherent characteristics of a semi-active variable damper featuring electro-rheological (ER) fluid. The damping force of the damper can be selectively adjusted or controlled by employing electric field to the ER fluid domain. This is possible owing to the pressure drop across the piston occured by field-dependent variable yield stress of the ER fluid. This is fundamentally different than the performance of a conventional adjustable viscous damper. To demonstrate the effectiveness and superiority over the conventional one, the proposed damper is incorporated with a suspension system. A quarter car model with the suspension system is formulated and represented by a state equation. By choosing numerical values based on realistic package size, power requirements and suitable ER properties, the performance characteristics of the suspension system are obtained and evaluated in both frequency and time domains. The effects of constant electric field and on-off controlled electric field which relates to the damping force are also examined.

V type suspension string sets prevent instabilities from swing motion by the horizontal angle and by wind pressure. These installation conditions are controled mainly 3 items - normal swing angle by horizontal angle of line, unusual swing angle by strong wind, minimum vertical loads. We calculated and analysed that factors for the 765kV transmission line condition. And we were tested swing characteristics of V-string sets in real size test situation. So, we find to installation condition for the V type suspension string sets. This results will be used to design of V type suspension string set and to decision of the installation condition.

Suspension of a single solid particle in a channel flow with a constant pressure gradient is studied numerically. The interaction of a circular particle with a surrounding Newtonian fluid is formulated using a combined formulation. Numerical results are presented using two dimensionless variables: the sedimentation Reynolds number and the generalized Froude number. From the present results, it has been shown that a solid particle is suspended at a smaller generalized Froude number as the viscosity of the surrounding fluid increases. The time taken for equilibrium position is found to be smaller as fluid viscosity increases when both : the sedimentation Reynolds number and the generalized Froude number are the same while, at the same situation, the dimensionless time taken for equilibrium position is to be nearly the same regardless of fluid viscosity when a dimensionless time variable is introduced

The effect of homogenization treatment on the suspension stability of makgeolli was evaluated. The non-soluble solids of makgeolli that were not homogenized were precipitated at 1.0-68 mm after 10 minutes of standing and 2.0-70.5 mm after 30 minutes of standing. On the other hand, in the makgeolli homogenized with a blender for more than 20 seconds, no precipitated non-soluble solids were observed during the initial 10 minutes, and when it was left still for 30 minutes, it showed precipitation of 2.0 mm (control 58.0 mm). The makgeolli treated with a high-pressure homogenizer did not show any sedimentation until 30 minutes of standing. In the sensory evaluation, the high-pressure homogenized makgeolli had a score of 3.93, whereas non-treated had a score of 2.80, which was improved by 40% by homogenization.
